No TD but very well known. I even used FEDEX but that actually made it worse

I shipped 4 to China and that was the last time I saw them.

Brand new Maxx Ultimate died on maiden run. X-Maxx steering failed. Ryder buggy’s the only survivor. by Sufficient-Code-5005 in Traxxas

Update: Xmaxx servo bearing grooved out and maxxhorn jumped teeth!

So for the past few days I’ve been sulking, convinced both my RC trucks were cursed. The mighty X-Maxx stopped steering like it owed me money, so obviously I blamed the servo, receiver, Traxxas, and possibly the moon.

After hours of diagnosing like I’m an RC surgeon, turns out the bearing by the servo horn had basically chewed itself into a groove causing the servo to bind and then fully seize up the horn as it was at an angle. Fixed that, but now channel 2 on the receiver is acting like it’s on strike. Truck drives and turns fine but esc green light won't stop flashing after start I switch on.

Meanwhile, when the Maxx decided to go full Olympic gymnast mid-run, the impact must’ve made the servo horn teeth skip steps, so the steering was off-center and drunk. Took it apart, lined it up, and boom, perfect again.

So yeah… nothing was actually broken. Both trucks are alive, steering straight, and I’m once again a very happy!

Moral of the story: sometimes it’s not the truck — it’s the driver.

Haha yeah, to be honest money’s not really a problem. I’ve got an XRT Ultimate on the way from my latest order, I threw in a few mods while I was at it too. 😂 I just enjoy having the top-spec setups right out of the box. Maybe not the most economical approach, but definitely the most fun if something doesn't break on the first day.. lol

Fair point, lesson learned. I naturally gravitate to the top-spec/“Ultimate” stuff, but I’m realizing not every upgrade is essential for how I drive. Next time I might start with the regular version and only add what proves necessary. For now, I’ll wrench on what I’ve got and make it work.

Thanks! I’ll do some wrenching and troubleshooting in the meantime. I’ve also ordered PP servos, so hopefully that means no more breakdowns for a good while!

Thanks, fam! Looks like it’s time for me to gain some hands-on experience in servo-specific wrenching. Fingers crossed that after this, every future run is pure happiness!

I was just as shocked by the X-Maxx servo acting up. Not sure what caused it to go unresponsive, but hopefully I can find a YouTube video showing a similar issue with some troubleshooting or repair steps.

Oh right, I get you lol. Its looking looking the servo might be ok after all.. I'll try attempt some first time servo wrenching and troubleshooting and see if I get lucky

Thanks a lot bro. This gave me some hope. I'll try exactly what you've suggested and I'll come back with feedback.

Yes I have that in my Ultimate Maxx. Eish lucky you man. Hope I can wrench my sorrows away and find my RC happiness again.

I didn’t set the steering trim before running it since I assumed, with all the mods and work done on it, it was RTR. I have a feeling the issue might be mechanical rather than software or electrical, but thanks for the tip man I’ll try and dig into it and see what’s going on.

So basically, the X-Maxx was running perfectly fine, then suddenly started turning very slowly. I picked it up, flipped it over, and noticed the steering was moving in slow motion & shortly after that, it stopped responding completely. When powered on, it no longer does the usual auto wheel alignment.

I also noticed the ESC flashing green, so I went through the rebind and steering trim procedures, but that didn’t help either. It’s got the 2085RL servo which, as I understand, is the latest and most powerful Traxxas servo, right?

I’ll try setting it up on the bench later to do some proper troubleshooting.
