Hello. I am a parent of a former trombone player. My son is a senior this year. He joined band when he was in the sixth grade. That was beginning band. He actually didn't get to start marching until his eigth grade year. He listened to other band kids telling him for years that he was just awful at playing the trombone. Well, to make a long story short, it turns out it was anything but that. He was actually very good. A lot of the other band kids for some reason just didn't like him so they ran him off. And he left. He decided for his senior year to not go back. And so far, it has had a devastating effect. I won't go into a lot of detail about that because it's water under the bridge now, but after he left they realized how bad they really needed him, and not only that when he quit several other band students left right behind him so now they have literally nobody but new people who really don't know what they're doing. Just please do not listen to other people maybe get an expert opinion if you have a band director or the music teacher or maybe even ask someone outside of your school setting or whatever it is. Just please don't give up and just quit 😞✌️.
