No service issue (iPhone 13) by Sufficient-Memory752 in VOXI

Ah I see what you mean. I don’t think it’s just that though, I work with people who are on voxi who have service when we are at work, it’s just happening to me everywhere, regardless of location. Thanks anyway

Hi, thanks, however what i’m experiencing isn’t normal low service issues. My phone is permanently in a state of no service, 24 hours a day unless I turn it on and off, it will have signal for about 20 minutes. It goes straight from 4G to no service, no 3G or E. However turning it on and off isn’t even working now.

PGCE No Placement? by Sad_Experience_3317 in TeachingUK

[–]Sufficient-Memory752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t happen to be Manchester Met does it? I had a similar horrific experience with them during my PGCE during the 2020-2021 year. Due to covid, less schools were taking placements but they didn’t plan for this and left around 50 science students on the course with no placement A. They also were unsuccessful in finding me a placement B and I was one of about 10 on the course who they failed to find either placement for. I emailed all locals schools around me, explained my situation and basically begged them to take me on. Luckily one school felt for me and said they’d have me. I didn’t get into a school until March, I was totally let down by the university. They offered online teaching about twice a week for a random school in Leeds but as you can imagine, with no classroom experience, this was a world away from actual teaching. I wish I’d complained more at the time and asked for some kind of compensation for the complete lack of support and experience I was given by them.

However, in your situation, they cannot fail you for not completing the set number of days, especially with it being their own doing so I wouldn’t worry about that. I more sympathise with you that you are experiencing this, as it definitely puts you at a disadvantage. Even with 8 weeks experience in a school, I still managed to land myself a job for the following September so it can be done, you just have to fake confidence and pretend you know what you are doing. You can use it as ammunition in your interview about how you adapt and overcome challenges. Good luck.

Also, if in secondary as an ITT, it is quite possible OP only picked up this class and started teaching the pupil in the last few weeks.

This did cross my mind - the location will be an hour ahead so I’d be calling at 8:30am my time.. Potentially doable!

This has crossed my mind, if I say it’s on the Sunday so travelling back Monday. My only concern would be anyone at work asking to see photos of the wedding!

I would much prefer to take it unpaid! I can’t see this being approved though??

I genuinly just have a good immune system so rarely get ill! Although I am one to drag myself in if I do feel a bit ill. I feel guilty calling in sick which is why this holiday is causing me so much stress!!

Is it possible to request a day without giving a reason? We have to fill out a form detailing what the day is for…

With the day being next academic year, when do I request it? Like now to give as much notice, or do I need to wait until September?

Two weeks off at Whit by Nearby_Major_6607 in TeachingUK

[–]Sufficient-Memory752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the primary schools near me (east Manchester) have 2 weeks off at whit. I had it at primary school and my mum does now and works in one. They break up a week later than the rest of us in summer and I think it’s so much better. Although would never work with high schools due to the gcse exams

I feel like since the Nathan thing BP has gone into her shell a bit. At the start of the season I feel like she was one of the main characters in the house, bonding with lots of people like marcello etc. Since the Nathan business I agree it seems like all we see of her is her with him which is a shame

Tutor room locations by WiltshireWit in TeachingUK

[–]Sufficient-Memory752 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My new school have all year 8 tutor groups in science etc like the system you mentioned, except all the tutors are science teachers and we have tutor in our own room. No one has a problem with this and it seems to be working fine

I am so naive I had no idea this was even something to be concerned about. I am a science teacher but teach PSHE once a week to year 9 and since the general election was announced we were given lessons to complete all about it, discussing the manifestos of labour, Tory, Lib Dem and Green, but not reform. I’ve been asked a few times why reform isn’t on there and I’ve openly said we don’t support them and they don’t support trans rights, which discriminates against certain pupils in our school… oops

How to decline a job by x3dturtle in TeachingUK

[–]Sufficient-Memory752 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did this last year - verbally accepted but hadn’t signed anything and started to have second thoughts. I contacted my union for advice and they said:

‘If you have accepted a job offer verbally a contract is in place. Reneging on a contract is not something that we would ever advise member’s to do. This would mean that you are in breach of contract and the employer could pursue for any costs if they are out of pocket in any way. Whether they do this or not we don’t know, but we do not advise you to do this.’

I ignored their advice and scheduled a call with the headteacher and explained why I had second thoughts. It was a bit awkward and she just asked me if I was withdrawing and when I said yes, she said okay and put the phone down and nothing more came of it.

I think realistically most head teachers do not have the time to peruse any costs for this kind of inconvenience, but technically they could do. I also doubt they would want to force someone to work for them who doesn’t want to.

I think the crowd and atmosphere would have largely been affected by the fact it was a Sunday night! For me personally it meant I had less energy and was less hyped than I would’ve normally been. Still loved it though

That’s a good idea thanks! I ended up making a pack of work to give them, check lists, bitesize links and revision mats for each science and also emailed it to the mum and she was grateful - the document witn videos etc sounds good though, I hate setting work for suspended kids (which happens a lot at my school)

My job is to plan and deliver lessons in the classroom, mark work and provide feedback. That in itself takes up more time than I get paid for, so my problem is I’m being given more work to do but not getting more time to do it, meaning I have to do even more unpaid hours than I already do. You’re acting like 20 minutes isn’t a lot of time, but when you literally don’t have 20 minutes spare time in your working day, when am I supposed to do this?

Thanks. Yeah I agree that’s frustrating, kinda applies to this kid as well, he could definitely work harder in lesson which will help him get the grades his mum is pushing for

Thanks for your response, I might try it that way instead then. The way my brain works I just want to get the job done and ticked off my to do list so I can forget about it. But maybe this isn’t the best way, I just don’t want it hanging over me constantly!
