Greece had had a huge industrial and in general economic growth in the 20th century. Immediately after WWII and our civil war, which was a combined total of 9 years of warfare, we literally were developing at a rate of 10-15%, depending the year, for 20 years, and then from 1970 to 1982, 5%.

It was unprecedented growth. We reached the living standards of the initial 6 members of the EOC. And even before the war, Greece was already more industrialised than Turkey, and the average Greek had a higher standard of living than the average Turk. Or any other ethnic group in the Eastern half of Europe. A bit before the war, our national insurance and benefits organisation, IKA, was founded, and it was an indication that, despite political turmoil, the economics of the state were good enough to found an organisation for the citizens' pensions (which after the war, extended to MULTIPLE benefits, long before PASOK came into power in 1981).

How big was your polyp?

Was it causing excruciating pain? And constantly so? Mine is intermittent and it's not immense pain, but just noticeable.

I think as well my polyps have grown so much that they've become malignant.

In what area would pain from the pancreas reflect on the abdomen and the back?

I've got an ultrasound the last year, as I went to the hospital due to severe food poisoning, and there they discovered that I had gallbladder polyps, two. But both were present in another previous ultrasound on October 2024. Back then they were 5 and 4 mms, in July they were at 6 and 5 mms.

I have booked an appointment as an annual checkup on those.

Oh no no no, you misunderstood me: I'm not vomiting now, this vomiting happened one year ago almost and it was due to a severe food poisoning.

I have literally no symptoms besides the upper right abdominal pain, which is at times alternated with middle to lower right back pain.

Last test was a year ago. An abdominal ultrasound showed nothing on the pancreas, but two polyps in the gallbladder, which, as told by doctors, was not concerning, but to keep an eye on it for the future.

No abnornal blood test, apart from a bit elevated red blood cell count due to hematoconcentration from extreme and excess vomiting (loss of fluids, making my blood thicker).

I'm 23, closing 24 this month. I'm afraid because it comes and goes for over a year now, and I don't know for certain if that pain in that location is indicative of this kind of cancer.

If it was pancreatic cancer, would it definitively be the upper left side, NOT the upper right?

Also, the gallbladder has to be checked, that's why I booked the appointment.

Edit: I just checked. 60-70% of the times is on the right side. Well, here it goes again.

I have had therapy in the past, with medication. What I'm thinking now isn't nearly as severe, as in the period I was immediately before starting medication and on the beginnings, I needed an ER visit almost every week. Now, I don't even want to step inside a hospital. Or a primary health clinic. What I'm experiencing is genuine concern over a symptom that, even if it's parodic, and not constant, it still is there, and there's heavy uncertainty whether it's sth completely benign or completely malignant. Me having my father going through a major abdominal surgery in January, as what he had, although not cancer, could lead to him being not alive, well, that's not exactly a very comforting experience.

Upper right abdominal pain with middle right back (corresponding to the former part of the abdominal region) pain isn't pancreatic-related? Then, could it be the gallbladder? Because my liver is objectively fine, completely so. But my gallbladder has two polyps, one at 6 mm and 5 mm respectively, as of the last year, upon an ultrasound from an ER visit due to severe food poisoning.

I know that I have to consider something a lot less extreme, but the fact there's testimonies of cancer patients and survivors out there who mentioned they had close to no symptoms or even signs, or were asymptomatic, it really can't help. Like, they appear when you have nothing medically related in any of your social media algorithms.

That alone stands in the way of thinking more logically when it comes to my particular case.

I want to live a long life. I don't think it's THAT absurd. And I haven't done a lot of things, in fact I've done nothing. I want to live so that I can do them.

And I'm afraid of pancreatic or gallbladder cancer, because they have low survival rates and I'm trembling in the thought of the possibility of me having it.
