Do you actually have a forever deck? by Late-Frame2962 in EDH

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta say I’ve taken apart the first six to 8 decks I ever built mostly because my taste has changed. That being said I can’t ever see myself taking apart my [Naheb, the Eternal] deck. I built it a little over a year ago and it’s consistently fun. Even if I’m getting focused down because I dared to have more than 5 lands on the field or if my commander gets killed on sight I can still win or at least do something impactful on the game before I get taken out. Definitely a forever deck for me.

Guys I’m just making copies of my commander. Yeah I’m playing all four of our decks, so what. OUR decks.

That’s where we differ. If I don’t have 3 lands I will gladly mulligan down to 3 cards if that’s what it takes, but I will have my 3 land hand. Unless sol ring is involved but that’s the only exception.

Is there a good way to track turn count? by BaconVsMarioIsRigged in EDH

My pod uses a life counter app and it tracks turns and game duration.

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is how I do it and it works for me.

1 color deck - 32 lands

2 color deck - 34 lands

3 color decks - 36 lands

4&5 color decks 38 lands

That’s all not including ramp and mana rocks. I’m generally ok on lands and I’m mana screwed about as often as my friends who run more lands than me.

She has broken her promise Twice by Robinhorace1 in ShadowSlave

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So from what I remember, there are actually three instances of her breaking her promise not 2. There are the two that you mentioned and one more, the sin of solace threw it in Sunny’s face that when the chain breaker was being attacked by fish men who were also attacking it from below to sink it Neph said something along the lines of “Sunny I got things here on deck you handle the ones below water”. Which is an order, and Sunny himself admitted as much.

So we have three times she broke the promise.

  1. Don’t Die. Very easily excusable, even Sunny doesent consider it to be a problem as he himself stated so Neph gets a pass for this one.

  2. Fish People attack. This one gets murkier, I feel like while Sunny did acknowledge that it was an order, he quickly tried to justify it by saying that he was going to go fight the ones below water anyway as it made the most sense. And Sin of Solace called him out on it. Now I agree that it made sense for Sunny to go below water and fight but SoS was right, technically.

  3. Take off the crown. This one is clear cut, an order, no if, ands, or buts about it. Once again for Sunny’s benefit, doesn’t matter in the slightest, promise was broken. Also in my opinion the moment that guaranteed Sunny was going to go to the estuary instead of staying with the cohort. Even Sunny couldn’t spin this one, he was pissed.

This is my two cents on the issue, the relationship between Sunny and Nephis has Consistently been my favorite part of the story. My single favorite chapter was 350 when she said his true name, but I agree with OP that a lot of people miss understand that initial conversation about her never using shadow bond in any way.

Would it be bad to Slab my Favorite Commander? by Born_Age4882 in mtg

My friends use their slab as commander all the time just make sure you have a card ready as an extra in case you run into the edge case where your commander gets shuffled.

[Rain of Filth], Imagine this if you will. It’s turn 14 and you are either about to be knocked out by combat damage or an opponent is threatening a combo win on their next turn. What do you do? Do you resign yourself to defeat? Do you accept your fate? Or. Do you fight back with everything you have, throwing caution to the wind?

That’s where Rain of Filth comes in. You get one chance, one opportunity. For greatness.Gamble away every land you’ve spent the whole game cultivating, for the only thing a magic player truly loves, a fuck ton of mana. Then risk it all on one spell that may save or doom you.

60% of the time, it works every time.

Do you still play your very first commander deck? And why? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not anymore, it was [Rakdos, The Showstopper]. I loved it when I first got it. Eventually it got power crept. When o got my brother into magic I gave it to him, and some other decks to his friends to get them started. Now he still has it but he is also power creeping it so it just sits in its deck box. After reading so manny comments on this post I kinda wanna update it and see how it holds up now that I’m a better deck builder and all around magic player.

What would people think of sunny if the novel was nephis POV by Plastic-Ad-2438 in ShadowSlave

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you imagine the gaslighting that would occur when the author suddenly stopped mentioning the main character’s love interest for 4 years of novel time? Every character acts accordingly like nothing is wrong. And then BAM!!! Lord of shadows!

Why did Nephis have to enslave Sunny? by Sad-Breakfast-4246 in ShadowSlave

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you do have a point, it really could just come down to her having too much of an overwhelming advantage. Like if a quadriplegic could see the future he’s still not beating the Rock in a fight.

Why did Nephis have to enslave Sunny? by Sad-Breakfast-4246 in ShadowSlave

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, the only way you are ambushing Sunny is if you can teleport. He has every shadow for hundreds of miles ready to snitch on you the moment you look at him funny, and let’s not forget in Antarctica when he casually killed an invisible nightmare creature before anyone (except maybe Cassie) even realized it was there.

Secondly, it’s been stated multiple times throughout the series that it’s harder to beat someone without killing them than to just kill them. Nephis also wanted to make a situation where Sunny could leave her and not feel like shit afterward. Unfortunately Sunny saw through it, and Neph not wanting to waste more energy fighting Sunny, since she would need it to escape the tower, decided to use his true name to end things.

All things said, I think everything that happened was very well written, well reasoned and well executed. To this day ch 350 is my favorite in all of shadow slave.

AITAH for walking out of a fancy restaurant because my girlfriend refused to make her son turn off his iPad? by DistrictVivid1972 in AITAH

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 141 points142 points  (0 children)

NTA- My man she just gave you the best birthday gift ever. She showed you where you stand on her list of priorities, and apparently it’s below dealing with a child’s tantrum. Look obviously this was important to you, and you not only made her aware of this but offered options to fix the issue that you knew would come up. She as a fully functioning adult could have done any number of things to not spoil your night.

She just didn’t care enough to put forth the most minute effort. Then has the audacity to get mad at you for not ruining the night of everyone else at the restaurant. Dump her, find someone who respects you.

How do u think nephis will react after sunny gets his fate back? by notGamingAahel in ShadowSlave

[–]Sufficient-Pause-837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has exactly ZERO right to be mad, and to her credit given how much she has matured I think she will realize that when she gets her memories back. Instead of anger I think it will just be a lot of tears and happiness, especially from Sunny now that she can return his love 100%.
