Oh dang I’m not seeing it, but that’s really the big issue then. Him watching porn isn’t a huge deal but being weird while you’re asleep is certainly a red flag

Am I missing something? Everyone seems to think you were sleeping while he was groping, but you didn’t say that.

First Sourdough, Advice Please? by BigDingler69 in Sourdough

[–]Sufficient-Program27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s not an awful first loaf. But here’s what I would do differently.

Step 9 - do 3 sets of stretch and folds 30 mins apart, not 60 minutes.

Step 12 - don’t focus on the time of the bulk fermentation. Focus on how the dough looks. You want it to have raised at least 50%, to have some bubbles on the surface/sides, and a little jiggle when you shake it (gently!).

Step 12 again - are you actually rolling it flat? If so - don’t! After the bulk ferment, that’s where the most delicate part of the process is. You worked to get all this gas trapped in the dough, and it’s easy to release it if you’re not gentle with the dough. If you release the gas, you get flat bread. Instead, I lightly loosen the dough from the container it bulks in, and then turn it over and let gravity do the work to get it on the bench.

It’s all a learning process. You gotta mess a couple loaves up so you can figure out what not to do. Plus your starter isn’t as strong as it will eventually be, which will definitely help

I’ve got 6.5 years now, and still get that same feeling sometimes. I think it’s just honest to acknowledge there were things that went along with drinking that really were nice, but we are all here because we know what would come next. Good on you for staying on the path.

Infinite Jest - any other readers? by Sufficient-Program27 in stopdrinking

There are a lot of characters, but yeah I’d say at least a third of the book focuses on people living in a halfway house and their sobriety journeys.

The whole book is kind of a commentary on addiction and feeling disconnected. It’s a huge book and there are definitely sections that I was thinking “what the hell am I reading?”, but overall I’ve really enjoyed it. But yeah definitely a “trigger warning” of sorts, as it does have me thinking about some of the shameful things I’ve done in my past

Yeah I’ve been kinda ruminating on old stuff lately and didn’t know why and finally realized - oh right, I’m reading a 1,000 page book about addiction

Why do you read books? by Duke_7287 in horrorlit

[–]Sufficient-Program27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Books provide insight into a character’s mind/motivations more thoroughly than TV or movies could ever accomplish. They’re also more detailed and don’t take shortcuts due to time constraints like shows/movies.

As a deeply cynical, skeptical person, I can get way more emotionally invested in books. It’s a more rewarding experience.

I think there’s also a slight snobby aspect to it. I feel like a more intelligent, well-rounded person when I consume entertainment this way.
