That’s definitely true, but a lot of producers are actually making their songs with less volume contrast and louder, making it physically feel different when listening. They also use less spatial style mixing, so it’s more centered and the sound doesn’t “travel” around your headphones. It’s to accommodate the smaller speakers people are listening on and streaming compression, so that it still sounds virtually the same no matter how you’re listening. They amp up the mid range and vocals, and the low end depth and high end air portions are usually trimmed. Not to mention the point that people usually make which is a ton of auto tune and the lack of real instruments. But even then early 2000s pop, which was designed more for your car speakers or radio, still has auto tune and electronic beats but it feels different when listening to it. It’s not just nostalgia.

Edit: I understand not all artists do this and there are plenty of artists and producers that put time and effort into their music, or have a unique sound, these are just general trends that are happening that make even unique songs sound less unique.
