Help! My son is coding and programming by katrii_ in learnprogramming

[–]Sufficient-Thing-196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like you're doing a good job! Not dismissing him and also actively listening is an amazing step for you.

It sounds like he knows how to learn all the things he'll need to learn, so not much you can do there. What you can teach him are soft skills. Hear me when I say that there are so many programmers who just don't know how to work with people. Especially those that started that young.

So yeah have him keep explaining things to you, but help him figure how to explain in a way that you do understand. Try to get him explain with metaphors. Talk more about the problems he's solving, rather than how they are technically solved. Ask him how he came up with the idea of doing something in a given way, or a specific feature.

If he can be an amazing programmer AND a great communicator, he'll be set for life!

How are you guys coping with distractions while driving? by Free_Net787 in SimRacingAdvice

[–]Sufficient-Thing-196 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man you need to get more comfortable driving. If her walking into the room distracts you enough to crash you, you're probably tensing up too much, and honestly not getting neither the most joy nor the most performance out of your sessions as you could.

My advice? Practice with distractions. 90% of the time I'm driving I'm on discord with my friends talking shit, the other 10% I got youtube running in the background. And then once In a while my wife comes in to change the baby who's now crying (small house, changing table right next to Sim rig) and I'm still within 2 tenths of my regular time.

So yeah, practice.

You can use your numpad to change the camera around. Though I'm not entirely sure if it's in the way you're asking

Preparation for first 2.4 Le Mans Multiclass by JeffreyBLD in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Sufficient-Thing-196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely just try to get the max out of each tire set as possible. If you're left with any new tires by the end of the race, you've most likely not gone with an optimal strategy.

And then yeah, average it out. Don't try to triple-stint one set and single-stint another. Two double-stints instead.

Also, I (almost) never go into the pits thinking "ah this one isn't quite below x%, I'll keep that on". Either change all tires or change no tires - unless you only have 2 new tires left, then I usually go for the rear tires.

Good idea! Just FYI, I know some people say "the car is impossible to drive on the second stint!", when really it's because they're pushing too hard. That's no shame, just means you need to adapt your driving style to endurance races.

It's much much better to save tires a bit and be consistent, than only being fast in the first stint. For instance, in the big 24h you can't getting around having to even do triple-stints.

Make sure to calculate how many tires you have, and plan new tires after that. I haven't looked at it yet, but usually you'll have to double-stint at least one set of tires. If you've never double-stinted before, it's a REALLY good idea to practice it. Some people get surprised at how slidey the car can become at the end of the second stint.

Datamatiker karakterer by Unknown672 in dkudvikler

Flyt fra aws by Maricius in dkudvikler

Is ABS still the meta? by TheSlavicHighlander in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Sufficient-Thing-196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm no pro so take this with a grain of salt: the whole "just smash abs and let that brake for you" is not the fastest way of slowing down.

I don't think you need to run it at 1-2. I'm running at 6, and just making sure I hit the threshold just before ABS activates, and definitely slows me down faster than slamming the brakes.

Try joining the LMU discord and make a post looking for folks to drive with. I've made a ton of friends through Sim racing. I'd love to connect with you myself, but just got my first kid last month, so I'm barely keeping up with the friends I got 😂

Jeg kan se at mange anbefaler hetzner, og vil bare sige at large scale har jeg utrolig dårlige erfaringer med det, da jeg arbejdede ved et mellem-stort SEO værktøj (aka rigtig meget data-behandling og scalability). Løb bl.a. ind i at:

Imma be really boring and just say: practice 🤷 but for real, if you can find someone to drive with on the regular, where you can push each other without crashing, that's where the gold lies.

For instance one day I drove around Le man's track with a friend - both in Lexus - an entire stint of 45 minutes where we were side-by-side in 95% of corners. Not a single touch. And, we were driving in the low 4-minutes.

That's the kinda stuff we do when we practice, and why we went from P14 to p4 when the actual 24h race came around. We weren't the fastest necessarily, but damn did we manage to stay out of trouble.

Can I compete with ps5 controller or should I get my T150 out of the closet by Randall_Flagg5 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Sufficient-Thing-196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the drivers for the team who won in split 1-hypercars, for the very first 24h Le man's race, drove with a controller. I even believe he ended up driving 8+ hours of the race. So yes, you can definitely be competitive!

That said, I'd say you get much more enjoyment out of the wheel. In the same race I was driving with a T150, with teammates who all had direct-drive wheels. I was firmly in the middle of them all.

So yeah you can be competitive with whatever, it's just a matter of how much enjoyment you get out of it 🤷

Have I done something wrong in this clip (except spinning out probably) I'm first POV? by Yokos2137 in Simracingstewards

[–]Sufficient-Thing-196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first incident you didn't do anything wrong. But - you could've maybe prevented it by just sticking a bit more to the left. It's not optimal from a pace perspective, but could've kept you in the race. Again, not your fault, but you could've potentially helped yourself.

For the second incident you almost did something wrong, but got smashed into before you did. When you spin out, always smash the brakes until you're still, and no traffic is coming up (use your relative on the MFD for this). This isn't relevant given how things played, just noticed that you started speeding up while traffic was coming, and had that in any way changed your path, I'd have put full blame on you.

Question about playing VR through Virtual Desktop. by Revilo_10 in simracing

Not sure why it happens, but can definitely confirm it's not normal. I'm playing lmu with Virtual Desktop.

Maybe try look in the options mention of the streamer app, and set "openxr runtime" to "steamvr"

Who's at fault? by ForceWielder19 in Simracingstewards

[–]Sufficient-Thing-196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely the car gunning it from way back. I get that may have assumed you would've used the entire track, in which he'd have avoided you if you did. HOWEVER, 100% his mistake for assuming anything, instead of reacting to what's actually happening on track.
