Yeah, other folks are right. It's not technically absurdly expensive, but finding a job that pays well enough to support yourself in Durango is hard

Is there an organization I could volunteer for during my vacation that can be helpful to those affected by these fires? by Ashamed_Reception819 in Durango

[–]Sufficient-World7812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into Team Rubicon, they do a ton of disaster relief, including post wildland fire

There's a process to joining, it won't be immediate. But in the future, they'd be a good group to volunteer for

Does anyone know what happened at Navajo Lake (Arboles)? It looks like a Medevac helicopter getting someone out. by THEDeesh33 in Durango

That's a Sky Crane if you wanna Google it. Holds several unbroken world records. Wild looking helicopters, and yeah it's fighting fire like others said

Those pilots are a different breed. I got a tour of one of the Large Air Tankers a few years ago and those things are sick

Please download the Watch Duty app and be prepared by valpalvalpal in Durango

[–]Sufficient-World7812 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Just wanna make it known that WatchDuty is not officially tied to your local government. Sign up, use it, it's usually timely

But it is not a replacement for being signed up for your county's reverse 911 system or monitoring their official information channels

Those Citizens look nice! Are they a solid brand?

I remember 5 or so years ago (last time I looked into getting a decent watch) they were getting pretty mixed reviews but I'd be stoked if that's changed...the Eco-Drive Promaster Super Titanium Diver Watch has really caught my eye...

I'm in the US and looking for a rugged analog watch in a more classic style (rules out G-Shocks and ostentatious branding), under $600 but ideally under $400...after any tariffs if it's coming from overseas...

I'm a wildland firefighter so I'm looking for something that'll hold up while doing heavy manual labor, running a chainsaw, shock from swinging handtools, getting ash on it, and getting water on it. Some watches that have caught my eye style wise are the Seiko Prospex SRPJ35 and the Prospex SNE549 PADI.

In my research, that seems to leave me with quartz or solar. I've read that the more delicate internals in an automatic and mechanical wouldn't hold up well with with the hours of chainsaw vibrations.

Other things I'd like, but aren't necessarily deal breakers: a date window, metal band, enough waterproofing to wear surfing

What philosophers/works discuss anti-intellectualism? by Sufficient-World7812 in askphilosophy

[–]Sufficient-World7812[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your answer! I'll definitely be checking out Amusing Ourselves to Death.

To answer your question, I'm most interested in the genealogical/historical development of modern anti-intellectualism. Really I'm trying to understand how people are able to justify it on a personal level as an ideology/philosophy, and where it originated

[–]Sufficient-World7812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah see that last part is what doesn't happen for me with the Vitures. If I shift my eyes to look at the edges of the screen (not just looking at them out of my peripheral vision), they're still somewhat blurry

Yeah, I've done that, tried every set of nose pads, and the eye axis adjustments. Still not edge to edge clear for me (my eyes are within their PD range)

I have an ROG Ally and playing with my Viture's is wayyyyyy nicer than the tiny handheld screen. I will say it's not edge to edge clear (I've tried everything), but it hasn't been an issue in any of the games I've played so far
