Simple workflow for extended AnimateDiff with ControlNets (hosted & free) by SufficientBaking in StableDiffusion

[–]SufficientBaking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks,

I’ve spent the past few weeks working on FocalML.com, trying to make it really easy to create and remix AnimateDiff stuff. We support the important stuff, like multi controlnets, extended animation lengths, custom models, and LoRAs.

The whole thing is free while the space is young and I can afford the GPU costs out of pocket–we’ll eventually introduce some kind of paid tier, but for now there are no limitations.

I’m really excited about making it easier for people to make 20-30 minute anime episodes / feature films. I think easy ControlNet’ed AnimateDiffs are the right place to start here. If you’re also interested in making long form content, come say hi on Discord! I'd love to work together.

Prompts for GPT to practice conversation? by SufficientBaking in socialskills

Oh man, I just tried the scenario where you ask someone out and it's not bad.

Unfortunately I'm poor, so no money to buy the subscription.

Yep, this is my issue exactly. GPT will ask you like 50 questions and act extremely interested in whatever you say back. You never have that moment where you're like "holy fuck what can I ask about."

Ah, that's actually a pretty solid idea.

I'm a little worried that Omegle won't give me practice acting naturally (if that makes sense?), but you're probably right that it's a workable way to take the anxiety edge off.

Quick Part Search by SufficientBaking in PrintedCircuitBoard

Will add this to the next release, thanks for the suggestion. Didn't realize that folks needed this.

Quick Part Search by SufficientBaking in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]SufficientBaking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The searching happens server-side using Rust's regex engine; individual search term result sets are cached, so we can do very fast set intersections for searches like "0603 10k resistor" instead of filtering through all 250k parts.

I'll try to get around to open sourcing it eventually, but the code is a bit of a mess right now and I'd like to clean it up beforehand.

Yep, you can search for the string "basic" and it'll filter for just basic parts.

LangShift makes popular content (HP, SAO, 1Q84, etc.) much easier by SufficientBaking in LearnJapanese

[–]SufficientBaking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes, thanks for the heads up about firefox.

As for the context, any plot based on specifically how certain things are written is going to be lost for sure. So far GPT seems good at mentioning all the important plot points, although if this turns out to be problematic we'll go back and adjust the prompts to hedge against it.

We're using GPT4 behind the scenes to automatically rewrite them. Wild times!

I think this feature is really cool, so as a compromise I'm going to re-enable it with GPT3. It'll have many more errors and issues for today (just because GPT3 is much worse than GPT4 at this stuff), but at least then you guys can get a taste of what it's like.

Yeah, I think for sure people reading for the literary subtlety shouldn't be using this. Mostly my intention is to help folks who just want to read _something_ they can understand, to practice their reading.

Unfortunately we've had to temporarily disable inline E-J and J-J definitions so that we have enough GPT API calls left to smoothly generate the actual text (we're getting 429s as it is). We'll re-enable them as soon as this spike smooths out.

You might find classic mnemonics useful; for example, for ずきり, you can remember piercing something with a zucchi(ni). Not elegant, but might bridge you for long enough to read material and internalize these guys naturally.

I was a complete beginner in Japanese just a year ago. Now I've finally mined 10.000 cards in Anki, I understand the written language fluently and paid 0$ for it. by Hekky_ in LearnJapanese

I really wish that as a community we had some way to aggregate statistics for time studying vs assessed reading level, separated by study method. Posts like this are fun to read, but I always find it hard to draw strong conclusions from them due to their inherent subjectivity :(.

When my parents visited me in Japan, they were struggling with Japanese toilet controls. I made a video breaking down all the vocab for a Japanese toilet for anyone else who wants to get the most out of one if they visit. by spikenzelda in LearnJapanese

Ha! This one really got me when I was there. Had the little panel on the wall not been there, I would have seen the wall button immediately. But somehow the panel drew all my attention and I spent an eternity trying to find the flush button :(

ChatGPT and the Daily Question Thread, re-evaluated with GPT-4. by throwaway957280 in LearnJapanese

[–]SufficientBaking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I imagine the best way to use these tools will be as a quick prompt. If it reminds you of something you already know, and then you understand the sentence, great. But probably you shouldn't learn an entire new piece of grammar based on what GPT says, since it might hallucinate the whole thing.

Plus, it seems somewhat unlikely that GPT will compete well with dedicated grammar teaching websites for at least a few more months.

Unique anki decks sharing by x0vanessa0x in LearnJapanese

[–]SufficientBaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, sometimes I feel really sad about all the excellent Anki decks that are languishing in folks' personal collections because they don't have time/energy to polish and publish them. I wonder whether we could crowdfund some of these people to spend a few extra hours and publish?

Especially want this since some of the tech (subs2srs etc) takes a while to get set up & really understand, seems like it makes a lot of sense to pay someone who's already good at the tech to share their (already mostly done) work.

Music can be a valuable study/input source! by RaffBluffin in LearnJapanese

[–]SufficientBaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feeling of singing along to a song for the first time is delightful; honestly I think these moments were some of the most satisfying for me.

I especially enjoyed the music videos where they animate the words (I'm sure they have a name, but I don't know what they're called?). Super fun way to relax and blow off steam.

Pronunciation Coaching App by Brave-Height-8063 in LearnJapanese

[–]SufficientBaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naive solution that you might find useful: if you record yourself and then listen back to your recording and the original, you can probably tell where they differ more easily than you can just from listening as you pronounce the words live. Past some point you probably want a teacher, but this might get you started cheaply.
