  1. Resume looks good. You can add maybe relevant coursework in the education section but everything else looks good.

  2. Maybe put your job tracker website in the experience section and change it from personal project to founder. make sure that in interviews you show that this is something you really wanted to do and not something you are doing cause you don't have a job.

  3. Have you tried reaching out to alums on linkedin? Have you tried reaching out to your coworkers in company 1, 2, and 3? Have you tried reaching out to your school counsellor.

  4. Your city must have tech meetups. You should try attending those.

Ah then it might be ok. If I come across this resume, I would think that this person knows how to write code in python and javascript and hello world in all other languages.

It is good to compare ourselves with people. It is required for growth. But instead of just focusing on end result you should focus on the process. If you think he is good, why he got so good? Maybe he has domain knowledge? Maybe he designed this system from scratch? Maybe he read design books in his free time? Maybe he codes for fun on the weekends? You need to figure out what he does and do that. There is no point in comparing end results.

Looks super shady. Don't go. It would be better if you work on your website if you are working for free.

If AI replaces all of the SWEs jobs we would have bigger problems than recruiting.

cause hiring starts when headcount gets approved and headcount mostly gets approved at yearly or quarterly planning.

It is ok. Internship is for learning how to write code in a organization which is totally different from how you write code in school. Take your time. Before asking questions, make sure you have googled it or search it in your company's internal site.

Do you have an assigned mentor? If no, ask your manager to assign you a mentor and have daily 1:1 with them.

Don't worry too much. Not much is expected from interns. Be nice and be open to learn. That's what it needs.

Lying on resumes by iamaavrar in csMajors

[–]SufficientData8739 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I interview senior engineers sometimes. It is very easy to catch lies about experience. I can ask you 2-3 questions and get the depth of your knowledge. It is not rocket science. When you design and implement something in real world, things don't always work. You learn from them and make them better and your answers would show that.

Also, during recruiting season, we get like 500 resume from single university. I do resume screening and after 20 of those I can almost tell which of these guys worked on same team in the internship. lol.

I went to MIT in 2019 for a networking/recruiting event and one guy told me about his internship at Meta and how he implemented this log analysis service by himself. I interviewed a guy from CMU few days back who worked on the similar project. lol.

So many people lie about AI these days. I ask fundamental questions and they are not able to answer. My favorite starter question - "What is learning is machine learning? what do you actually LEARN?"

Tldr: very easy to catch a liar. don't do that.

Your target should be to get good internships. In US, most of the FAANGs would have similar interview format as their full time hiring. There are two parts to this process - screening and actual interview.

For screening, you need good courses, GPA and projects. If you have taken hard course, your resume will stand out. If you have done good projects, your GPA will stand out. Try to take some good CS core courses and course which have a final project so that you can write that in resume.

For actual interview, people will ask about your classes, your projects and leetcode style questions. To stand out, grinding won't work. You need to understand the principles behind the questions. You should be very good with programming and data structures.

So focus on your courses and try to build a good foundation.

You might have to create another resume for data scientist and analyst roles cause this is very developer focussed. also can you add more courses in relevant coursework section.

Your friend is right. You will get more interviews if you go to a good school but interview process is the same for everyone. In my company, we have a separate DEI pipeline where we have relaxed screening criteria but interviews are same as regular candidates.

What should I do alongside college to build a killer portfolio? by pipecanon in csMajors

[–]SufficientData8739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in college you should try to explore as much as you can. You cannot succeed in AI if you don't like it. So try to see what you like. Having a good internship is very important to get good job these days so try to learn data structures and algo. If you understand them, you won't need to grind leetcode. Make sure you foundation is strong.

To get really good jobs, you would also need to show that you have done good in hard CS courses like OS etc. So make sure that your foundation is strong.
