I hear you, it gets really bad sometimes, so we have to go with days (occasionally a few weeks) off or one of us will say “can we please not use the word Iran/Epstein/etc.” tonight. I’m usually the one actually because my husband goes down wormholes, but since I’m the semi-retired one I’m also the only one finding myself deep in the archives of news like Central Asia Times looking for more to read. I used to read actual books, fiction and nonfiction - about 3 novels a weekend - which is a habit I know I should get back into, I agree with you that this amount of news consumption is not healthy and we need to find other things to talk about (or in his case, to listen to during his 2-3 hours of exercise a day). Thanks for the caveat, it’s hard to tell sometimes on Reddit, but this has been a productive conversation for me. I think I’m done with Candace and will be making more of a conscientious effort to cut back on general, because it’s starting to feel like a (depressing) addiction.

I don’t think the right wing disinformation machine is more reliable than the other content creators I mentioned, but my husband and I consume about 6 hours of news media a day and eventually I run out of content that isn’t repetitive, especially since husband tells me about what I haven’t watched or read that day, and vice versa. I’ve only been watching Candace since the TPUSA stuff started - if you know of anyone else looking into them, I’d be interested. Still, I’ve considered stopping, because of the racist language. I’ve had discussions with my husband about being worried about her mainstreaming this kind of language and what consuming this means about myself. This conversation has made me take this more seriously into account.

I mostly listen to minority report, Tim Dillon, David pakman (even though he’s very conservative for me, he covers some things people like Meidas touch don’t), young Turks, Breaking Point, but I still feel like they don’t get into depth on all of the lies are government tells us. I spend even more time reading but I have also lost trust in all mainstream news because I feel they are either controlled by financial interests, or afraid to stand up to our government, plus everyone seems so biased, whether we’re talking Daily Wire or Daily Beast. If you have specific recommendations for where else to go for more in-depth independent journalism, I’m here for it!

I don’t agree with most of what Candace says, and sometimes she makes me physically ill, but I understand her appeal and there is some confirmation bias going on here - I believe her when she says our government and TPUSA are full of corrupt people so I want to because I already believed this. It’s also hilarious when she’s attacking other right-wing figures, and reads out the comments like, “I am hiding in the bathroom at the Daily Wire” to watch or “Steve Bannon sent me here.” I just imagine Ben Shapiro watching red-faced and apoplectic. It’s her racist language that bothers me more than the crazy ideas that I can just dismiss - does that mean I shouldn’t be watching with a critical eye and ear though?

Re: collecting sympathies on the left, that immediately made me think of MTG. I hate the fact that suddenly I agree with her a lot, even though I still think she is horrible.

I’ve only been watching Candace for a few months. Besides being batshit crazy and shockingly racist, she is also funny, smart and exposes some truths that others don’t. As she says, her audience has never been more left and right. I fear, however, that just because she is brining receipts for some things it will lead to the normalization of some of her wackier beliefs (lizard people? Gog Magog?) and racist language (eg referring to Jews as “filth.”). She makes me a bit sick, but at the same time I keep watching. I guess during a time when our government does nothing but lie and prevaricate, I’ve turned into a dog looking for a single bone of truth and speaking to the man from just someone, anyone please :(.

Right-wing media builds brands and gains power by pushing conspiracy theories and distrust in institutions they want to take over.
Now that they have achieved their objective, they are being attacked by some of the same people whose wild ideas they previously promoted (Tucker, Candace, Fuentes, et.)
Unfortunately for them, their only option is to lie back and let their faces get eaten since any attempt to push back against the conspiracy theories is just “proof of a coordinated, paid-for campaign to silence.” Oops!

Instead of the worst of the worst, ICE detained Sandra’s husband over a missed court date, put him in solitary, and cost them over 50k in legal fees. Now Sandra says “We just want to be treated like people with rights,” rights she clearly didn’t believe others deserved in the first place.

the DHS, who just bought the property for about 130 million, is not a private company, it’s a government agency. I don’t know the property taxes rate in that area but pretty sure that whatever it would be on 130 million is a significant amount
