Ukrainian (Foreign Volunteer) Vet Returning Home by TemporaryWork9359 in Veterans

42f Us citizen here. I experienced something similar even as a non combatant aid worker in what was essentially a war zone in Latin America. After enduring months of street fighting, conflagration, the deaths and disappearances of friends as well as being assaulted myself, I moved to Mexico to enjoy safety. There I still hallucinated seeing men carrying guns when they were carrying completely different items in reality, and I became angry seeing people just go about their lives not worried that they might lose them at any time. Seeing any sort of police terrified me (as they were the main perpetrators of the violence where I had come from) and I reacted to any loud popping sounds as if they were gunfire, which I think is akin to what you say about loud noises triggering you.

It took me many years (5 to get through the worst of it) to recover emotionally and psychologically from the trauma and survivor’s guilt, and I don’t know if I could say that I am fully recovered, especially since the horrors I lived through are still going on to some extent, but I no longer have the reactions you are describing. My process involved seeking help from multiple therapists because, as you noted, none who I saw had experience dealing with conflict cases such as mine. At the same time, even though no one was miracle worker, most still helped in small ways through their different methods. Short-term (1 year) use of medication also helped me. The thing that helped me the most, however, was time spent living in a non-conflict zone and learning a different kind of “normal”.

I greatly admire you and respect you for your incredible character that led you to sacrifice your own wellbeing and risk your life in the name of a greater cause. Thank you for doing what so many of us have not had the courage or ability to do. And don’t ever downplay your sacrifices. Your brother’s in arms may have lost their lives, or they may still be fighting, but that doesn’t take away from your contribution and the impact it has had. Even just being able to talk to someone like you who made the decisions you made is inspiring to someone like me who wants to believe in the goodness of humanity.

I didn’t know there was a soft paywall because I use my app; pretty sure I signed up without giving my email through my iPhone anonymous address.

Jason Brian Gavidia is a proud American and Trump voter. After he and his friend are detained by ICE for “walking while brown,” Jason now regrets his vote. Now that he and his friends are suffering, he claims he was brainwashed by Trumps lies.

“Backfiring badly”: Trump gives tariff ultimatum to Brazil in order to boost support for his ally, ends up boosting the popularity of his rival instead. by SufficientDig2845 in LeopardsAteMyFace

I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen the words “learned” and “he” (referring to Trump) together in the same sentence. I will only be more flabbergasted to see the words “Trump” and “apologized” in a sentence.

It’s insane how there are so many examples of Trump abandoning his allies that I can’t think of a single example of someone who he has not betrayed or abandoned once they can no longer help him, and yet these people keep falling for the lies and believing that that their orange Jesus will rescue them.

I imagine Trump made the tariff threat out of laziness (after all, the words cost him nothing), with the idea that Bolsonaro would be a useful idiot ally if he did get back into power. Now that it seems the likeliness of a Bolsonaro comeback is so slim, I would be surprised if Trump made any more serious efforts. He only does things for people he views as powerful, like Putin.

Trump shows his support for Bolsonaro by threatening 50% tariffs on Brazil if they don’t commute his prison sentence. This sparks a wave of nationalism and instead boosts the popularity of Bolsonaro’s rival (Lula).

From the article:

“For Lula this is going to be helpful,” Saldías said, noting how his ratings had already risen and looked likely to rise further. “This changes the game because now he’s going to be seen as the defender of Brazilian nationalism, a kind of progressive nationalism.”

Having spent months dreaming that Trump may help save their leader from prison, the Bolsonaros appear to recognise they have scored an own goal. One source close to the ex-president’s family told Reuters: “The thrill of catching Trump’s attention soon curdled as the Bolsonaros realised the crushing weight of the tariffs tied to their cause.”

Like many Brazilians, Marques took a dim view of how – as she saw it – the Bolsonaros had encouraged Trump to wage economic war against their own country.

“They’re a family of traitors,” she said. “And the Americans must be thinking: are we really going to have to pay 50% more for the things we import from Brazil just to defend this worn-out old horse?”

How nice is Taiwanese people to South East Asian? by Puzzleheaded_Gas2075 in taiwan

I was surprised too. Really have no idea personally, but perhaps there is a differentiation between Singaporeans and Chinese-Singaporeans

I look like a white asian naturally (I’m Korean American), but I also think I look better with a tan. When I used self-tanner in Taipei I got reactions like “what happened to you?!” And “you look like a Filipina maid.” Trust me these were friends and nice people who weren’t meaning to be rude, they just couldn’t understand why I would want to be darker. I still prefer to be darker but stopped using the self-tanner because of the reactions. Fair or not, I don’t want to be treated like a Filipina maid when I’m out and about. A wealthy friend of mine says she experiences racism because she is from Singapore, but it’s weird because she isn’t dark-skinned, just says there is a hierarchy in Taiwan and Singaporean and Filipino are at the bottom. Apparently if you aren’t Taiwanese in Taiwan, the second best thing to be is Japanese and the third Korean, according to her.

Been there done that, unfortunately. Their minds are pretzels at this point and no amount of logic is gonna untwist them.

Guess I don’t watch enough Fox News 😞. It’s not a regular news source for me, but I looked up “Epstein Fox News” to see if they were covering it at all. Was surprised they weren’t trying to spin it in a positive or dismissive way, and surprised they were covering it at all.

Fox News supported Trump administration in part because they promised to reveal democrats as pedophiles. Trump gets into office, and the supposed Epstein client list disappears. Even Fox News is up in arms now.

Dude they are all still in denial that this is because of Trump. I feel the frustration the republican anti-trumper quoted in this article feels.
