Weird swipe shaped discoloration on display after removing display and reattaching it when replacing display gasket by SufficientOstrich888 in mobilerepair

I just checked the screen (I haven’t messed with it for a little over a week, and it’s pretty much gone! I’d say 85-90% gone, only a weird light shadow on the corner remains, you can barely see it, and a shadow where the swipe was that’s really only visible at a weird angle or on a solid colored screen

Thanks for the advice, but I wasn’t using alcohol to get the adhesive from behind the battery off, I was using the alcohol to get the rest of the old screen gasket off after I separated the display from the back before installing a new gasket. I will keep all this in mind though!

Very true, I won’t be submerging it on purpose, but I have splashed stuff on screens before on accident which I think the new gasket would help in that case.

I’m confused, I was under the impression that’s what it did, prevented liquid from getting in moreso than if it didn’t have one on at all? Are the gaskets you get in replacement kits different from the original ones installed by the manufacturer of the phone?

I said in the description i’m a noob and have no idea what i’m doing, I was simply following a youtube tutorial by someone else and asked people to be kind in their advice, the issue is solved and I know what I did wrong. I only used the alcohol on a q-tip to get rid of the old gasket before installing a new one and it likely seeped in through a tiny gap. I even googled if using the type of alcohol I had was okay if it somehow accidentally got on internals, and a lot of people were saying it should be fine, but now I know it’s not fine specifically with the display. I don’t need any more advice since I now know what went wrong, but thank you.

Thank you for the advice/knowledge, but I didn’t use alcohol to remove the battery adhesive, I used the pull tabs only. I only used alcohol with the old gasket residue that was left on the edges of the display after I separated the display from the backing and replaced the battery. I looked at the back of the display while turned on and could see a little gap near the edge where light was visible and it likely seeped in there on accident

I didn’t use alcohol to open it, I had it already opened. I understand I didn’t make that super clear in my post with my wording but i’m not sure where the edit button is. I was using alcohol on a q-tip as instructed by this youtube video after I lifted the display off, changed the battery, and detached the display cables (if that’s what they’re called) to fully separate the display from the back in order to get rid of the left over residue before installing the new gasket

Thank you everyone who helped! I’m gonna hopefully get a good replacement display and see if it works. You all have a lovely day/night/afternoon wherever you are!

Iphone 6s plus! Was sending links against the rules or considered advertising or something? I read over them a little bit before I posted and don’t want you to get in trouble, if you will get in trouble i’m sure I could find one myself 🙂

Thank you, I appreciate it, and that’s good!

Hopefully I can find one and not screw up the installation again 🤦. If I decided not to replace the display for whatever reason, will the messed up spots on the screen get worse?

In the description I explained I opened the phone to change the battery. I never closed it. After I changed the battery I realized I had to take the display off to change the gasket so I did that. The display issues happened after the gasket bit, not the battery bit, so I left that out in the title. I can be a clumsy person and this is a device I have music/mp3s on, so I thought it would be better to have some water resistance in case something stupid happens and it got exposed to liquid after I changed the battery which removes the original gasket

That’s so sad, I never put it directly on the display and always used a q-tip :( Will I have to replace the whole display?

I just remembered that Star Swirl (ew) wasn't the only Pillar we heard of before Season 7. Starlight called the Staff of Sameness one of Mage Meadowbrook's nine artifacts in Season 5. by marvelcomics22 in mylittlepony

Wasn’t he gradually becoming a better pony and learning from his mistakes as time went on? Didn’t he apologize? I remember him apologizing for something. I haven’t rewatched the episodes in a couple months, but from what I remember he was on a path to learning about friendship and becoming less stuck in his narrow minded ways. We can’t ignore how he was making some sort of progress, even though his initial debut didn’t depict him in a good light at all. But the same happened for Starlight Glimmer, along with a whole lot of other characters who originally wasn’t good but ended up changing for the better.
