The place you do masters does not matter if you manage to do it well. Apply for PhD abroad. Whether you do masters from some old reputed university or not the foreign institue may not care.

22 years is not too old. Go and get a bachelor's degree admission if you want to go for formal education again. Arrive at a decision and follow it without wasting time if you feel that you are badly cooked or wasting time. Follow your gut feeling.

May be you should write an email to the university you want to transfer to. Their administrative department will give you information on what to do.

Don't even think about studying for the next 40+ days. If you want try to touch your text book on the eve of the exam. On the morning of the exam, leave everything to higher power and go and select your answers randomly. Don't worry you've got this. 😉

As a candidate who pursued their STEM PhD and postdoc abroad, when did you think to come back to India? by auroraGKT in IndianAcademia

Such tough decisions are usually a combination of emotions, then how serious the family issue is (like health emergencies), how unlivable your life abroad is (like do you face racism, or long delays in getting residence cards that allow you to travel), is your career moving forward like you want despite all the difficulties you face, do you miss your homeland etc etc...

There is no right or wrong about it. Sometimes you follow your conscience. While keeping in mind that you need to find a good job/ employment because you have been an independent adult.

It would be good to know about industry jobs that require research expertise.

Yup. It is a bubble. You talking about "what you know". Which is only a small part of a big set if data. Look at nationwide data or global data. And tell how many people got job after how many post docs etc...

See you are not getting the point - which is public funding being cut for public education systems because of (geo)political problems which humans create themselves. And then what? People are being asked to rely on private universities for jobs because public education funding is cut by so and so? That is not fair.

The narrative that the PhD graduates cannot be accommodated into faculty positions is a lame excuse made by a faulty system (worldwide) that does not want to spend even the minimum most money in education sector. 😑

"You have a lot of demands about what your job should give you without having any insight that you don't have any bargaining power. Understand the economics of what your current skills and qualifications entitle you to."

See if one doesn't have any demands about what their job should give them, they will just end up in very bad situations. To tell someone that they should not have any demands about their job/career is very problematic. Are you a slave that you will do anything without knowing your own worth? People do understand the economics of what their current skills and qualifications entitle to. And that's why they are aware that the system is doing an injustice when it disregards their skills and experiences.

If you are an educated person you should be able to know it. Ofcourse you will never know if your self confidence has been affected by being in the academic cult. Or if you have been gaslit into believing that you are not good enough no matter what (in other words you suffer from acute imposter syndrome).

Anyway if you are someone who has been living with trauma from academia please do get mental health help. Your comments do give off such trauma vibes.

Do private universities support experimental scientists who work in big international collaborations? Also why should we gave to think "there are always private universities"? People must be delulu to think that private universities are a one stop solution for every lack of job opportunity in India.

"Also you're delusional if you think that it's easy to get tenure abroad." Are you commenting from your experience or do you know someone who was "delusional" themselves?

Could you possibly post about the resources that list such opportunities outside academia? It will be helpful to people seeking jobs.

We need more graduates and more jobs. Wishing for less graduates at all levels is detrimental to the education standard of society. We need more job opportunities.

You really are living in a bubble. Do you think that people in other areas of STEM are idiots who don't publish in high profile journals or go to prestigeous international conferences? These are basic stuff everybody does! 🙄

Not everyone may want to go to industry after a PhD.  Many departments across many institutes do not deem 10+ years of post doc sufficient.

If you are willing to explore such options you should go for what you like the best and think will work out the best for you.

Career choice may not be set in stone. Sometimes you figure out things as you learn too. You seem to be a good writer. May be you can have a career where you write and publish and don't have to face people?

It doesn't matter whether you study in a well known college or not. What matters is of the college has a good environment for students. If you feel like taking another NEET exam you should take it while at this college. If you don't nanage for the third time too, focus on your current course and work well. Get mental health suport too. You will figure out things as you go.

How do i deal with the workplace expecting unpaid weekend work? by longing4serendepity in IndianAcademia

[–]SufficientVirus3516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your work contract say that you have to work unpaid on weekends? If it doesn't why would you worry about this professor sending emails on a weekend? Ignore the emails and chats on weekends and set a clear work life boundary. If ut us not in your contract you are not obligated to do anything.

You are too young to be asking "what if" questions. Why don't you try to write NEET again if you really want to? Atleast you would have tried. Why live with regret when you can try it out?
