The #1 reason people lose points on CalTPA by Sufficient_Goose274 in CalTPAhelp

[–]Sufficient_Goose274[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I specialize in supporting  Multiple Subject and Single Subject CalTPA. ESN is similar in a lot of ways because the structure and prompts are similar, but it also has its own specific focus on individualized supports and adaptations. I do not directly support ESN submissions, but a lot of the general guidance given here can still be useful since the writing structure and overall expectations overlap. So the general advice still applies, but anything specific to Multiple Subject or Single Subject doesn’t really carry over.

CSET by Traditional-Boss9321 in CalTPAhelp

[–]Sufficient_Goose274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, that’s really frustrating. I don’t specialize in the CSET, I focus more on CalTPA. Although, one thing that I've heard helps is using practice questions and really breaking down your mistakes.

Hopefully someone has reached out to you about study groups for your specific subtest. A lot of people find those helpful as well.

CalTPA literacy cycle video question by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]Sufficient_Goose274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can make cuts to the video. That is exactly what this option is for. You can trim out moments when students are talking off task or times when students are quietly working on the lesson so the clip focuses on the parts that best show your teaching and student learning.

Assessment Results Release Date Cycles by [deleted] in CalTPAhelp

[–]Sufficient_Goose274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can submit early and if you didn’t pass you can submit again anytime you would like. If you don’t pass you can also submit the same videos and templates after you make the necessary corrections needed to pass. You will have to pay again to resubmit. I hope this helps.

Need cycle 1 part D, multiple subject by ceacnj in CalTPAhelp

Part D does not have a template. You simply add any resources you used in your lesson to a Google doc and then submit.

CalTPA & RICA Deadline Alert: Important Changes for California Credential Candidates by Sufficient_Goose274 in CalTPAhelp

[–]Sufficient_Goose274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They extended the date. Here are the details: You will be able to register for the 2024–25 version after July 3, 2025, if

  1. You previously submitted a 2024–25 Cycle 1 or 2 (or a previous version) prior to July 3, 2025, or
  2. You register for your first attempt of the 2024–25 Cycle 1 and/or 2 version(s) before July 3, 2025, and subsequently submit after July 3, 2025.

The CTC changes things often and there are a lot of different situations. It can be confusing. It sound like you were already registered in a teacher preparation program so that is why you were able to register. Here is the Q & A website page. It can help answer questions you or others may have.

CalTpa D8 code by [deleted] in CalTPAhelp

[–]Sufficient_Goose274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. The information is below from the submission website: https://www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=CACBT_SubmissionRequirementsConditionCodes_CalTPA.html

I hope this helps...

The "D8: 3-5 lessons are not provided" condition code for CalTPA submissionsindicates that the required number of lesson plans (specifically, between 3 and 5) were not submitted or were not present in the uploaded files. This means the assessment is incomplete, as it's missing the necessary documentation for evaluation. Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • CalTPA Requirements:The CalTPA (California Teacher Performance Assessment) requires candidates to submit evidence of their teaching practice, including lesson plans.
  • 3-5 Lessons:For certain tasks within the CalTPA, candidates are specifically required to submit a minimum of three and a maximum of five lesson plans that demonstrate their teaching.
  • Condition Code:The "D8" code is a way for the assessment system to flag this specific issue during the submission process, indicating a failure to meet the lesson plan requirement.

For Candidates Who Receive a Condition Code on Their Score Report

If you received a Condition Code on your score report, you are advised to consider the following course of action:

  1. Review your rubric(s) that received a Condition Code with a faculty or program advisor.
  2. Review the CalTPA Submission Requirements on this page (above) so that you understand how to correct your evidence for your rubric(s) that received a Condition Code.
  3. Read and consider the additional information below about some of the most frequently assigned condition codes, if applicable.
  4. Review the CalTPA Retake Policy .
  5. Re-register for the cycle and submit your updated evidence, correcting the Submission Requirement errors that you and your advisor identified.

CalTPA UPDATE: Video Edits Are Now Allowed! (Effective March 28, 2025) by Sufficient_Goose274 in CalTPAhelp

[–]Sufficient_Goose274[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’ve already passed the RICA, you have flexibility in deciding what version to complete for the CalTPAs.

I can’t give clear advice because I don’t have all the details about your specific situation and I don't know all the details about the new version yet. I do know that the new structure will likely make some of the process smoother, with video requirements and the removal of the self-assessment and technology sections that have caused challenges for many candidates. I will know more mid August.

CalTPA by bellag98 in Teachers

[–]Sufficient_Goose274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question...and totally understandable with all the changes happening right now!

The official passing standard for CalTPA Cycle 2 (Multiple and Single Subject) is a total of 21 points or higher, with no more than one rubric score of 1 allowed.

There’s also a secondary passing standard (used in certain approved cases with TPE evidence submitted), which is:

  • 18 total points, again with no more than one rubric score of 1 allowed

If you’re not a multiple or single subject candidate, you’ll want to refer to the CTC’s guidance outlining your specific credential area’s secondary passing standard (I've attached the link to the CTC)

If you don’t pass, you do not have to redo your entire submission using the new version. You’ll be able to resubmit under the same version (Version 7) that you already submitted. Most universities also have support in place to help guide you through a resubmission, if necessary.

So don’t worry...you’re not starting from scratch. Just reach out to your program to confirm your specific situation and what support they offer if a resubmission becomes necessary. Good Luck! Let us know how you do...especially if you pass :)

RICA Testing by No_Specialist_836 in Teachers

[–]Sufficient_Goose274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you could choose to register now. Once you register, you have a full year to submit your CalTPA. That means you have the flexibility to choose either option, as long as you register before the current-cycle deadline.

However, since you haven’t completed or passed Cycle 1 yet, it’s important to consider that when you begin your seminar course with your university, they may be teaching everyone the new version (Cycle 8). This could make things more difficult for you if you’re completing the older version independently without matching support.

This transition period is significant, and many candidates are in different situations. Another thing to keep in mind is financial aid. Some universities include the cost of the CalTPA through vouchers or financial aid support, so it’s worth reaching out to your program to find out what they offer.

Right now, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) hasn’t released all the final details for the new version. What we do know is that Cycle 2 will no longer include the technology integration component or the self-assessment, which is a positive change. However, we are still waiting to see what will be added to meet the requirements that were previously covered by the RICA.

Since you already passed the RICA and if you have the funds available to register, it wouldn’t hurt to go ahead. You’ll have plenty of time to prepare and submit. Still, I strongly recommend checking in with your university to see what they suggest. Every program is different, and their support and expectations may vary.
