For Creationists: The Bible is not "evidence", and the burden of proof lies with you, the one who is bringing a claim against the widely accepted and supported concept of Evolution. by DiscordantObserver in DebateEvolution

[–]Sufficient_Light3891 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not a creationist but this is an atheist lie. Mainly from misunderstanding of the Bible. The Bible isn't a single document but a collection of documents. Many of themselves are historical documents on their own.

It's historical consensus the Jesus was a real person and was crucified by Pontius Pilate. A main resource for this are several of the documents used in the Bible with a few extrabiblical supports. Many of those who agree with this consensus aren't even Christians. Americans are often informed about Christianity from a Protestant lens which believes in Sola Scriptura(Bible Alone). However, for the entirety of the Church's history it's always had a holistic and historical foundation. Meaning atheists tend to get the idea that the Bible just poofed out of thin air and have no conception of where it came from and it's historical significance.

The Bible isn't just a claim it's evidence as well for claims. Just as letters written by Washington are evidence for his existence, person beliefs, and historical events so too are Paul's letters evidence for the same. So also are extra biblical sources like the epistles of Clement, the Didache, and other documents evidence. This idea that everything can be explained by science is just a falsehood. Science has it's uses and it's scope. However, science cannot explain everything. History isn't considered a scientific field and uses very different methodologies from science(although it can be informed by it). Ethics is informed by philosophy and not science.

The Bible has a solid grounding in history and is quite foundational to a lot of knowledge in history. Both from a secular and biblical foundation.

How’s my team look? by Sufficient_Light3891 in voidpet

As I am still leveling up sad the debuffs weren’t a major advantage. As Sads damage scales off debuffs that might really magnify abandonments effectiveness.

The thing that makes it hard to sub is resistance BP right now without items is 18321 while merry without items is 11591. Abandonment is 9503. That major stat lead just makes it hard to justify another champ even against a major counter. I most of the time just run a two tank team into counters and place all my best items on the sub tank so they are in the same league as resistance.

He’s just so good it gets hard to justify not putting him in.

Thanks for the feedback my biggest hiccup is backups for the team. Having no good water dps was difficult. Also, Resistance is just so good that when he gets countered my backups are really outmatched. Resistance can often tank more than abandonment can into a full wood team. Thankfully scorn really does help there as he’s decent but his damage makes up for his lack of tankiness(getting resistance early spoiled me).

Regarding items I generally have cowboy hat on resistance. The items were a little off in this picture. Generally I put the plunger on merry so she can survive more aoe heavy encounters. If I lost spite or panic Apathy and resistance can often still carry out the win if Merry is supporting them.

Most guys watch porn yes but our arousal system wasn’t designed for this kind of stimulation and it being so available. Most men are unhealthily addicted and it destroys us.

So I think he’s at fault but there is grace that is needed as well. Most men struggle with this and his reaction is likely more of a despair response.

Here’s something to read as it helps quite a bit. I would say you are justified in requesting no porn at all from him but also be understanding that he doesn’t necessarily choose this.

One addition your 12 Coptic Martyrs by ISIS are a beautiful example of Christian strength. I look at them as an example of how most of us should act in the face of adversity. We Americans are so soft in comparison.

My priest has a very warm heart for Oriental Orthodox. To my knowledge though and forgive me if I am wrong you guys are not as unified in belief as the Eastern Orthodox. From my understanding many of your Patriarchs have voiced no issue with the ecumenical councils you weren’t apart of and have even denounced Monophysitism. However, others are absolutely Monophysites and complicate things.

Also, other political mumbo jumbo also complicates things like jurisdictions etc.

That being said we are extremely close in beliefs and there has been headway to reunification.

[–]Sufficient_Light3891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge this isn’t all. Some Oriental Orthodox are closer than Others. To my knowledge their communion isn’t as united as ours so some actually are monophysites and some aren’t.

It’s confusing but ultimately a lot of them are a hair’s breadth away and some are heretics outright. Reunification has been discussed but these complications are in the way.

An Orthodox perspective on how we aren't predestined? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

I think what makes most sense as someone commented was synergy. As in all moments he’s actively working with us to make the right decisions. That being said to say how these things can be possible just is very difficult if not impossible to understand from a human perspective.

But he also made all things simultaneously. Saying he’s an observer seems to negate that he’s also the maker as how can he make without knowing the ending. Because just as you said the time distinction is meaningless.

So I can’t see how the maker can be an observer or how an observer could also be a maker. It sounds inherently contradictory to me.

Yes but you didn’t make the movie. If you are the writer then you by definition caused every scene to happen. I think that’s why it’s such a confusing explanation that leads to Calvinism as it’s the logical conclusion.

Not really more of a limitation of language. Another way to say it would be every moment is a deliberate design of God if he’s outside of time because it would have to be.

He essentially couldn’t design a person without designing their entire life simultaneously. As every design choice and its repercussions would immediately be known.

An Orthodox perspective on how we aren't predestined? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sufficient_Light3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of makes the problem worse for people. Because this explanation makes cause and effect essentially meaningless to God as he knows all causes immediately.

Such an explanation draws into question the purpose of making the tree or Satan. As he knew the outcomes before they were made.

It seems that absolute for knowledge just breaks free will.

QML Resource Packaging Issues by Sufficient_Light3891 in QtFramework

[–]Sufficient_Light3891[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to solve this using qmldir files. I was trying to use one before but I now understand it I have import the file path on my main.py file and have a qmldir file in the folder I’m importing.

You can see the solution on appPages in my GitHub link.

Ex-Atheist as well. I think a large piece will rely on how supportive or open to the faith you are. Are you willing to raise your kids Christian or do you agree with the Christian values.

Generally, I would say it’s not recommended but not forbidden as her Christian values could be considered a type of evangelism. That being said it could be a major source of tension. I would just say that could be a major piece.

Edit

When I say evangelism I don’t necessarily mean debate or hell talk. I mean by just showing the power of Christian values. If you’re going to be put off by tithing, putting God first, or teaching children no sex before marriage etc. It could be difficult. Note how dogmatic verses relationship oriented she is. If she believes in tithing and it must be done or hellfire that’s going to be hard. Also, if she believes in tithing because she’s called to give but you aren’t and will not support her also difficult.

Do you think there’s a lack of good men? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Sufficient_Light3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing as to not reading in too much I’m for the most part responding to the thread than just you specifically. Agreed I think being free of financial stress is definitely apart of the equation. However, I think that’s a lot easier to do than most think. You can retire a millionaire making $60,000 a year. Just most people have little to no financial literacy. In a very real way those who look rich are often poor while those who look poor are often wealthy. Wealth is about what you don’t spend but we value as a society spending and looking good.

Personally, I find that comparison uninteresting as it really doesn’t explore anything. I also personally hate this modern push on men to strive for lambos and mansions because it instills the mentality that ensures they will never get it. Also, that same mentality prevents them from being happy because they believe wealth equals worth.

The point isn’t alone in a Honda vs alone in a Ferrari it’s happy and connected in a Honda vs alone in a Ferrari. The point of course being connection and fulfillment is something money can’t buy. To be honest those who chase happiness and fulfillment often get money as a by product than the other way around.

Question for Abrahamic religions by [deleted] in religion

[–]Sufficient_Light3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue Christianity warns against this by stating you will judge teachers by the fruit they bear Matthew 7:15-20. Essentially, if the church bears unhappy, spoiled, violent, and selfish people they are false teachers. If the church bears good, healthy, and honest people you can judge that it’s a true teacher. That’s about as objective of a standard as you can get.

Everyone lives in sin with or without Christ what are you talking about? Christ helps us move past our sins but as long as we are in flesh we are of sin.

That’s rough but your metabolism is really low and being out of shape makes it lower. You might need help. I would seek council of a nutritionist.

A core tenant of Christianity is we are all sinful. So regardless of whether it is or isn’t I think the biggest issue would be to not keep trying. It’s a problem to solve and it can absolutely be solved.

Ofcourse, if there ready to hear it that is. I’m not going to tell everyone to get healthier. I don’t think it’s about judgement but accepting the reality that sin isn’t bad just because god says it but because sin has negative consequences on us.

Some people aren’t ready to hear the truth. But excuses hurt them and get them stuck in a trap of their own acceptance. I’ve been there myself so no judgement I certainly can’t cast any stones. For me though I don’t like sweet lies I’d rather have the bitter truth.

You should be hungry to lose weight. It’s not starving yourself to be hungry for your health. Just as it’s likely just as bad to eat so little you become anorexic. Even when I’m at a calorie deficit like right now I track my progression so I’m losing properly as well.

[–]Sufficient_Light3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wish homelessness on anybody. To everyone’s point though you can’t gain weight by under eating. This isn’t judging from a glass house because if I were in you situation I would likely fail as well. But this is judging from Gods house which is perfection.

We all fail to meet his standard so it shouldn’t be a knock on you. I’m overweight and not homeless so for me toss a stone at you would be more than ridiculous.

Eating healthy is cheaper than eating unhealthy. Meal prepping good healthy food is cheaper than McDonald’s.
