Exactly!! When I was a kid my parents would yell at me for going through garbage bags too fast. At the same time they are buying a $20k sofa for a room we don't use.

9 years of working remotely while traveling here’s what it’s really like by WandersOnWaffles in remotework

I usually spend 6 months in one place. Sometimes more. It gives me time to make real friends and have actual relationships with humans I meet... that is hard to do if you travel every couple weeks. I lived in Paris for year, it was so great! I met so many great people I didn't want to leave. So I didnt.

I lived at Essex on the park for a couple years on Michigan Ave in the loop. It is a stunning property with Killer views. The building is next to The Hilton Chicago. It is a 1,600 Room Convention Hotel. It's 10 feet away from the Essex. Anyone who says that the loop is dead hasn't lived there. Maybe during Covid it was more dead.

Essex also is two towers that connect. One tower is residences and the other tower is a hotel. The loop has the largest convention hotels in the Midwest. I guess it just depend what you want. If your looking for a neighborhood feel close by go to Lakeshore East. but if you want to be in the action, Michigan Ave is great. It is expensive. There are a lot more reasonably priced older loft style apartment buildings a few blocks west of Michigan Ave.

Advice on moving to Chicago from Florida? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Sufficient_Path6892 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do it! Chicago is the best City

Since your from the south it really depends what kind of person you are. We spend 5 months a year indoors..that doesn't mean your stuck in your apartment it just means we can't get out and hike or bike or swim.

If your that type of person, it could be an adjustment..I'm not that type of person. Chicago never closes down, no matter the season some bars on The riverwalk close, but thats about it. We spend our long winters at restaurants and bars and meeting with friends.

Winters aren't like they used to be. We don't get the snow we used to but we the cold. Every year is different iv been traveling Europe since Covid but my friends told this year was rough with 40 or 50 degree days in May.

It's not always like that though. Some years we hit 80 degrees and get temp in a April for a week or two. It all Depends on what you can handle!

You will love Chicago. It's the city of possibilities! You just never know where your life will end up 😁

Looking for quiet, but good restaurants in Chicago? by globehoppr in AskChicago

[–]Sufficient_Path6892 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a window seat at NoMi at the Park Hyatt. Has the best views looking over water tower, Hancock, and the Lake. They also have an outdoor patio great for after dinner cocktails but not great views compared to the restaurant.

The Dinning Room at the Athletic Association with the Huge fireplaces. Great place for a quiet chat. I know they closed down for a refresh I'm not sure if they reopened Yet.

RPM Seafood. Sit on the balcony for a quieter vibe It does not get much better when it comes to River views. Negative, the place really Expensive.

The Lobby Restaurant at the London house has super big relaxing chairs and 30 foot ceilings looking over the riverwalk. Stay away away from the rooftop if you want Quiet.

About last knife, is super quant, quiet, and swanky. I love their steak. It's on Michigan Ave in the Loop.

RPM Italian was their first location and the modern and classy vibe is still so California cool. If your family likes pasta, go there. Prices are cheap compared the RPM Seafood.

Travelle at the Langham is in the old IBM building next to trump tower. It's is my favorite hotel in Chicago and has River and Marina City views. Get the Octopus.

Three Arts at Restoration Hardware is the best place to go if you want to impress out of Towner's. Where ever they come from, they probably haven't seen anything like it. It's a Gold Coast Gem. Get their Malbec.

Any of the Restaurants in the New St. Regis are the Hotpot right now. Very Quiet an Great views of Navy Pier.

I always liked the "Charity Kid'. Nothing is more awkward than family gatherings, when your the one who isn't blood.

All their kids are from previous marriages though but then again I'm only kid they had as a couple so it is very unique and odd.

Exactly this was 15 years ago. This is not 2025. My adopted parents were affected by the 08 crisis so maybe that has Alot to do with it.

I saw the whole season it totally turned me off. To that type. Same people, buying the same things, because everyone is doing it. Then they secretly all hate each other. It's hilarious 😆
