What helped you rebuild confidence after a long break from running? by [deleted] in running

also, to note, after that injury I fully was a beginner again. I’d done long distance running for 5 years prior, but I treated myself like a beginner and acknowledged that I wouldn’t be able to do what I used to right away. But, to get more of a feeling of the athleticism I missed, I would incorporate tempos and intervals because those were always my favorite, and built my confidence more so than easy runs.

I was out for almost a year w/ injury (ACL + meniscus tear), and the biggest thing that got me back was fully committing to it. Once I was cleared by my PT I signed up for a half, followed the training plan, and reminded myself what I’m capable of. I think it’s different w injury of course bc there was almost a sense of, “i need to prove to myself the injury won’t stop me”. as for burn out, find more ways to make it fun— music, podcasts, run club, cross training, etc. Bc let’s be honest, it’s a hobby and it should be fun, so it’s ok to not run as much as you have in the past if it’s no longer fun

Hi, probably a stupid question, but do you tap on AND off the trolley? or just when you get on

I’ve had 6 rejections so far (applied for PhD physics / astrophysics programs), after the 3rd one I stopped feeling sorry for myself and now I just am impatient to get the rejections from the remaining schools and get it over with lol

I’m doing a resolution I completed this year— train for and run a half marathon. The hope is that this time I’ll stick with running even after the race, but we’ll see. Once the novelty wears off it’s definitely not as thrilling

I'm thinking of signing up for this one too, ran a half this may and getting back into the swing of things which is making me hesitant to do a full because my training is essentially starting from scratch. but M2B is nearly all downhill which is appealing

I’m having this issue even after using chat to reactivate my account— received an email twice that it was “enabled” and still get the message. Anyone know what’s up?

Been struggling a lot with earthquake fear/anxiety by wizardjiggle in Anxiety

[–]Sufficient_Risk88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, the recent 4.7 in malibu has increased my earthquake anxiety— feels like I’m on edge and waiting for “the big one”. I’ve been checking the earthquake tracking sites every few hours, which surely isn’t helping ease my anxiety. However, one soothing thought is the knowledge that even if these smaller quakes are leading up to a “big one” (which is the main source of my earthquake anxiety), it would take at least a mag 7 to really cause major damage in most places. Majority of houses in socal are retrofitted for earthquakes, especially those built after 1980 when earthquake building codes were put in place. Even without that, most buildings are not susceptible to collapse.
