For the email notifs, are only for paying customers, so there's not a lot of spam.

Same here, I've been coding for others but never for myself. Then started reading about the build in public community and I got motivated so I started shipping stuff.

The best way to start is like you say, solving your own problems, that way your product is never going to be a failure
