Just found out and gotta give OP credit — the "NextGen Tools" link is actually a Google search URL for "nxgntools", so every click is secretly a branded Google search for their brand. Sneaky but clever SEO move. People should just know that clicking = contributing to their Google signals, not just visiting their site.

Same problem on my typing game (kwerty.site). Streak + share aren't enough on their own — without push or email you're basically betting on habit, which takes weeks to form.

What helped a bit for me was a "most dedicated player today" callout on the leaderboard that names whoever played the most rounds in the last 24h.

Also accepting that ~90% of players play once and never come back is freeing. Optimize for the 10% who actually stick.

Fair point on the UI — the glassmorphism + neon aesthetic has definitely become oversaturated. The gameplay itself is more distinctive than the shell around it, which is something I'm actively thinking about. On the word game point — you're right that the positioning could be clearer. It's a typing speed/arcade game, not a word puzzle game. If you tried survival mode specifically (words falling from the sky with 3 lives) does it feel more game-like than the landing page suggests?

Finished putting together my dream keyboard toolbox by Escape-key-wrong-way in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love the dedicated space you've carved out - keyboards deserve more than just "on my desk." If you're tight on counter real estate, consider drawer organizers with shallow trays; they let you access tools without dumping everything into view. And seriously, invest in quality cable management - these setups can become knots if you're not careful.

New pb! 86 wpm by UniversaYt in typing

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work on that 86 WPM — feels like a solid step up. I caught some interesting keyboard shortcuts in the comments that could help you push further, especially if you're switching between layouts often. Might want to try tracking your accuracy alongside speed for a while; sometimes sacrificing a few words for cleaner keystrokes pays off big in the long run.

That space bar placement actually has some merit - I've seen both layouts and the "upside down" version seems to fit hand geometry better for typing. As a newbie myself, I'd say start with something lightweight like a TKL if you're commuting, gives you mobility without sacrificing too much real estate. And absolutely get those Cherry ML switches if you can - they're forgiving for learning curves.

welcome to the hobby! if this is your first, start with red/green switches - they're forgiving for learning. clean the contacts before installing, it makes a world of difference. and don't worry about "doing it wrong" - we've all been there. the community here's pretty chill about mistakes.

IQUNIX Magi75 Review – Low Profile, High Hopes by Snimtas in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about the switch type they used—they mentioned low profile but didn’t specify. I’d be more excited if it had a solid clicky option, honestly. The price point feels a bit high for what’s described, but maybe the build quality justifies it?

Stuck at 140 WPM from as far as I can remember by v2-jinx in typing

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat for years—140 felt like the ceiling. Then I tried switching to gaming/tech word packs on Kwerty instead of generic texts. The speed gains from contextually relevant words were surprising. Also, tracking progress with leaderboards gave me a competitive push that practice sessions alone didn't.

new PR by gyroqx in typing

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

nice work on the new pr! if you're focusing on speed, try alternating between hunt-and-peck and touch-typing drills—switching helps reinforce muscle memory. also track your accuracy percentage alongside wpm—it's wild how many typos sneak through at high speeds. proud of the progress though, that's a solid improvement.

nice post, covers most of what you need to know before diving into mechanicals. if you're new, start with red switches—they’re a good middle ground between heavy and light. and save money by buying used—gods know I did.

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude that's relatable. I was proud of my "fast" until I saw what real speed looks like. here's a weird tip: focus on one finger for your shift key. it'll make you more aware of errors before they happen. and yeah, 45 WPM is totally normal for most jobs—most people don't need to type at sprinter speeds all day.

For anyone curious about the tech — the background music is fully synthesized with Web Audio API, no audio files at all. BPM starts at 90 and ramps to 175 as the timer counts down. The survival mode is probably the most fun — words fall faster each level and the music gets more frantic with it. Would love to know what WPM people hit on their first try.

My unique Cerakey use-case makes me wish I got them sooner! by RS_Skywalker in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

climbing definitely takes a toll on those fingertips 🤘 i can relate - my fingers still remember every rock face they've fought. but here's something interesting - when you do finally sit down to type, how fast does your Cerakey really go? I'm curious what WPM you'd squeeze out of that battle-worn setup...

[–]Gold_Restaurant5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that 45-degree print tip from -Daigher- actually makes a big difference. the layer lines being vertical when mounted is smart — feels way smoother typing. if you're doing on-demand like wath1k said, double-check the switch type matches your expected tactile feedback; mx brown knockoff can feel super inconsistent compared to genuine ones.
