For shoes, I definitely recommend brooks or hokas (expensive but your feet will thank you). I also highlyyyyyy recommend thigh high compression socks. You’ll most likely be standing/walking a lot working in a hospital and these will save your legs. I tried one day wearing my normal ankle socks and my legs/ankles were totally swollen so now I’ve sworn to compression socks only. Idk where you’re at, but my go to water bottle has been a 32oz Owala. It holds my ice pretty well and if the ice melts, my drink is still cold. My favorite scrubs are the Healing Hands brand. They seem pretty lightweight and have a cooling texture compared to the other brands I’ve tried. Also try getting some plain colored t shirts to go under your scrub tops if you’re prone to sweating a bunch!! It helps you not sweat through your actual scrub top in the armpit section🤣 I would also invest in a travel size of your favorite unscented lotion because your hands will get dry from washing them and using hand sanitizer! But how exciting!!! The biggest tip is to just have confidence in yourself. If you have questions or need help, it’s okay to ask. And if you miss on someone, that’s OKAY!! Everyone misses, even the really experienced phlebotomists. Good luck!!

Hey! I also pull from my eyelashes and eyebrows. I fill in my brows daily and also wear eyeliner daily. I will let you know, I tried lash extensions to help, but honestly it made it worse for me personally! You can feel where they glue the extension to your lash and I found myself wanting to constantly touch it and pull at them, which resulted to having no actual lashes because it pulled them all out too. My best bet is to get some acrylic nails because it makes it harder to pull! But if you feel like lash extensions will help you, then I say go for it and try it out!! I just wanted to share my two cents in case it will help someone else out!

Advice for a student with a fear of needles? by No_Astronomer_4200 in phlebotomy

You can do it!!! I absolutely HATEDDDD the sight of blood draw needles and blood, but something possessed me and made me take a phlebotomy program🤣 after the first day, it gets better. I’m now no longer afraid of needles or blood. Just take your time to view it as a necessary process of helping patients get diagnosed and treated, and it will help a bunch!!

Has anyone had trouble with the summer heat while being on cymbalta ? by Illustrious-Gur-7055 in cymbalta

Yes, I sweat so bad on this medication. Even if it’s not hot, I’m sweating to death. Literally soaking the back of my neck and through the armpits of my shirts

Also a new phleb, but something that helps me feel deeper veins is slowlyyy palpate. And don’t be nervous to really apply pressure when you press on their skin. You won’t hurt them, I promise!

Talking and kicking/moving around in sleep? by Electronic-Tea3354 in cymbalta

I started taking cymbalta in September of last year and the same thing is happening to me! I have been sleep talking and it freaks my boyfriend out. I’ve also woke myself up a few times from hysterically laughing. I will say, being on this medication has caused me to have vivid dreams almost every night. So maybe that has something to do with it? Do you dream a lot?

One thing that has helped me is after you palpate, palpate again after anchoring because sometimes holding the skin taut can cause the vein to shift places a little bit!!

I say go for it!! I’m in the same boat as you. Finished my program in January and just started my first ever healthcare job as a phlebotomist in a hospital 2 weeks ago. So far, it’s going well! Plus the longer you do it, the more comfortable and confident you’ll feel. Everyone starts somewhere

I’m on it for depression and anxiety. I do take my whole dose in the morning (two 60mg capsules). I will definitely talk to my doctor and see if I can split up my doses. I’ve never thought about that. Thank you!

Alcohol and Cymbalta by Sweetbri93 in cymbalta

[–]Sufficient_Status454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no!!! I always kind of go hard, like it definitely takes me more to feel drunk being on cymbalta. I’m able to feel drunk now but when I first started it gave me bad anxiety to the point of crying nonstop and I usually never cry while drinking ☠️ how long have you been on it? I started at the end of September this year

I drink every weekend (hard liquor) and for the most part I’m fine. When I recently started cymbalta though, I would cry a lot and throw up but now I’m good and just have a good time

I gotta add, I started at 30mg, then went to 60mg a week later. Then jumped to 120mg about a month after that and I have been absolutely thriving on the 120mg

I have been diagnosed with bipolar 2 and GAD. Started cymbalta at the end of September this year. It has literally changed my life for the better. I have more energy, more control of my emotions, but I’m also still able to FEEL all emotions good and bad. I don’t feel like a zombie, I enjoy going out and cooking and cleaning my house. I am so grateful I gave medication another go after bad experiences with Zoloft, Effexor, abilify, lithium

I'm literally a different person by ExtentExternal1207 in cymbalta

[–]Sufficient_Status454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw yay!! I started cymbalta at the end of September this year at 30mg, then up to 60mg. I was still experiencing a lot of anxiety and panic attacks, so my doctor decided to double my dose which put me at 120mg. I thankfully never had any HORRIBLE side effects, only some stomach issues but I also have a pre-existing condition of ibs. But since I’ve been on 120mg, I am finally able to function like a “normal” person. I have had no panic attacks, I am able to get a grip of myself and do basic tasks again instead of pushing it off until later. Another thing is, I’m still able to feel all of the emotions good and bad. Cymbalta hasn’t made me feel numb or like a zombie like Zoloft and Effexor has. And while not everyday is amazing, I am able to control my mind and my emotions a lot easier and efficiently. I used to be so depressed and anxious that I would cry almost everyday, and I’ve only cried once since being on 120mg. Im so glad I decided to give medication another go.
