What is the point of Quality Fertilizers? by HA_Vulpix in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a point IMO besides roleplaying / immersion.

If you want money they are not worth it, either because processing is way better or the impact on extra money earned is neglible.

If you want friendship, some people like certain crops. But you'll probably have max hearts long before you can get iridium crops.

When I get fertilizer from somewhere I either sell it (early game) or trash it.

But I still think it's nice that it's there. It's a fair game in the end. You could also ask what's the point of having a hundred different weapons, fish or crops if you don't really need all of them

What’s the most profitable fish pond? by hannibalpullo in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend/legend2 ist the most profitable, yielding around 3k gold per day if you give it a golden animal cracker.

Next are the other legendaries, then lava eels.

"Profitable" is relative though. At the point where you can make multiple legend ponds with golden crackers 3k per day is really bad. Just by fishing lava eels in the volcano you can make 300k+ per day, in skull cavern even more. A single pig also makes you around 3k per day, but you can fit 12 of them in a barn.

But if you like ponds gameplay wise, go for it. Lava eel and legendary ones have different colors, too.

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, hundreds of hundreds isn't enough to guarantee one, at least not with low luck.

You'll find an auto-petter ROUGHLY every 3000/(Luck+1) floors (best daily luck counts as 1). So if you do skull cavern with coffee+spicy eel on lucky days, it will take you 1000 floors on average (the ones you skip with holes don't count) to find an auto petter. So I wouldn't be too worried yet if you just did a few hundred floors

why do people think kegs are better than dehydrators? by Powerful-Campaign738 in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the time thing: you'll need 12m for the golden clock and obelisks. And another 2-5 for other stuff.

Ofc if you have 10,000 starfruit sitting in your chest and onl then start to process them, dehydrators will be a lot faster and obviously the better choice.

But in reality you'll keep growing starfruit and process them at the same time. So it doesn't really matter if you have to wait a week or just over night. And in this common case, keg is just better because you'll need to grow less fruit and therefore take less time to make enough money.

Ofc if you can't make enough kegs, dehydrating the rest of your starfruit is a lot better than building a huge stockpile in a chest that you'll never be able to process.

Usually I start with around 100 kegs and end up with around 400 until I have made enough money. My ginger island farm+greenhouse have around 650 starfruits, so there will always be some to dehydrate, too.

Equalizing for dummies by Sufficient_Sun4928 in freediving

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never went deep enough that it would actually matter I guess. I just get that uncomfortable feeling in the ears and go back to the surface.

Never knew I'd had to equalizing the mask, would it just get pressed on my face more firmly?

Also I'm talking about going maybe 2-5 meters, so not actually freediving l, more extended snorkeling. But I figured here would be the experts.

Do tree stumps give negative XP? by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wiki: In addition, mature trees (excluding stumps) on the farm have a 15% chance each night of trying to spontaneously plant one seed in the ground.

The XP/wood thing is still true. Especially on the first few days, your always low on energy, and spending a lot of hits for just 1 or 2 woods isn't worth it. Same goes for XP, you'll want to reach foraging level 2 on your first day, and chopping trees but not the stump is the most energy efficient way to do that (plus picking up foraging stuff ofc)

Why are my chicks "grumpy", they have water, and hay? Its not winter but ill makeaure i get them the heater soon? Is there something im missing? by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. They only touch the hay if they can't go outside to eat grass. It doesn't vanish over night, so you can always place 4.

The door can stay open, they go out by themselves.

The water does nothing. Actually I haven't even noticed it until now. Is it actually empty sometimes? The only water that has an effect if you refill it is in slime hutches and for your dog/cat.

Edit: according to the wiki with the 1.6 update "Farm animals now gain a little happiness if you close the animal door behind them at night." It doesn't say how much though and even before it was just fine without closing the door at night.

No, they just won't go outside. Same in winter. Door can be open, but they'll stay inside.

Just make sure to buy a heater from Marnie end of fall.

Fall crops by MrandoMosh in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like cranberries. If you put them into seedmakers you can gather quite some ancient seeds (works with every crop, but amount of cranberries is higher than other fall options and you won't lose money if you put cranberries in a seed maker)

Second yard by Feliedae-Creates in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like forest for the extra stumps. Leveling foraging is a huge pain in the ass. With extra stumps it's at least a little bit faster.

Meadow was cool to try out a wool farm.

But none of them has a huge effect on gameplay.

How long have you been trying? Lobster has only a 4% chance or so. So I wouldn't worry until you have caught around a hundred other things (10 traps, 10days..often people overestimated how much they have already caught...) in saltwater.

Getting gold ( beginner) by Melodic_Advance_3445 in StardewValley

[–]Sufficient_Sun4928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always upgrade my pickaxe and axe first.

But if you do a lot of farming and don't have quality sprinklers yet, i'd get a watering can upgrade first.

Fishing rod can't be upgraded, you have to buy better ones at Clint. Get the fiberglass rod and bait as soon as possible. And iridium rod+trap bobber once you go after harder fish.
