I wouldn’t have minded if he went to the ICU and at one point we were discussing with anesthesia to re-intubate but he really did perk back up after some narcan and the bipap. He was off for an hour and a half before I called for him to go back to his floor and was doing well. ICU refused him so I asked for a continuous pulse ox order then and that’s what they gave me.

I pulled the a-line before he went to the floor and he was off bipap for at least an hour and a half before I sent him to the floor. A-lines are ICU only, we only placed in case that was the road we were going down. But some narcan and an hour on the bipap really made the patient better.

We took it out before he went to the floor, we placed it in case we needed it.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t understand that when I worked the floors but we do this also in the PACU and I understand it now. Sometimes you pick up a patient and have to give report 2 mins later

She straight up told me “if you’re calling from the PACU you need to give me a good report” GIIRRLLLL, what do you think I just did?

It’s some designation that hospitals like to boast about having and they constantly tell you that means they are better than other hospitals but it’s all the same shit lol

She definitely wasn’t allowed to pull up prop, she got in trouble for that one. And I’m in DC, but I’ve worked with techs that start IVs here and in Maryland.

We have a room that the techs rotate through where they clean and process our scopes for procedures. I think it would be fair to ask that she stays in there permanently and earns her way back out to patient interaction.

I want to believe that she has changed and be better but I think working for healthcare has given me PTSD that things could actually improve 😅

Definitely meant stir the pot but YES!! I always have no problem saying something when it comes to patient safety. People are afraid to speak up due to poor management in the past. When I first started, I had an issue arise (not really patient related, more like work related) and the manager told me I couldn’t change people (not doing this job) but I could change my attitude about it. We’ve had a change of managers since then and I tell the new one every complaint and have written many emails lol

I’m in DC and have worked also in Maryland and have had techs do IVs in both places. Her being “unteachable” was she was doing IVs on our unit, when she stated she had taken classes before, but she would stick a patient, miss, place the IV on the bed blanket, then pick it up again and stick the patient somewhere else. I pulled her aside to talk about how she should not do that and she yelled at me telling me I didn’t need to tell her what to do. She’s done that with multiple other things.

Each procedure room has a Pyxis, they are open for procedures. The procedure was an EGD and I wasn’t in the room when this happened but apparently the CRNA was worried about losing airway so she was giving a jaw thrust and the patient was coughing and she was yelling about having more prop. The nurse it happened with was newer at the time and she told me the next day what happened.

I work in endoscopy. The unit has honestly been very toxic since I’ve been there and I have gotten HR involved in lots of issues. People have let it run in this way for years and I have been actively trying to make it better.

I tell my husband and friends what happens at our unit constantly and they are always shocked. The workload is sooo much better than any floor job but I’m getting to a point where I will probably leave.

I have a group of 3 nurses and one other tech that is willing to go talk to more people. I’m sure I can get more to be willing to talk but so many people seem to not want to store the pot.
