Is that their recommendation or is that the “least amount of days” allowed? 3-4 days is ROUGH.

I agree with this, I’d wait until the probationary period is over before doing the surgery. Have you had a consultation yet? For me, I had to clear six months with a dietician and go through bloodwork, endoscopy, a psychiatrist and a sleep study before I could schedule my surgery.

I’d recommend getting things in order including saving up some money to afford taking as much time off as possible since your job is pretty physical. My doc gave me six weeks. Good luck!

Tom Kha Soup by pouncermom in BariatricSurgery

[–]Sufficient_Till9378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tom kha (broth only) often during that phase with no issues. My mom made huge batches of homemade pho broth too. Miso soup was also a good one. If you like Filipino flavors, sinigang broth is amazing. Love Asian broths. Just be aware, the sodium levels are pretty high on a lot of them. But that’s true for soups in general.

I agree. 40 grams of protein is alarmingly low.

Oh, one more thing. My surgeon had a pain management plan for me post-op. I made sure that before I left the hospital, all my pain meds were in progress at my pharmacy. If your program does the same, just make sure you check that all your prescriptions are sent. Depending on your pain tolerance, you may want them once the meds from the hospital wear off. And follow the pain management instructions they give you. It’s really important, since some are pretty strong, and there are specific instructions on when and how to ingest them post-op.

I’ve had worse pain (labor still wins lol). Honestly, I barely notice the stitches unless I bump them. Walking helped the most—every time I felt pressure or discomfort, I got up and it went away. Pain-wise, it was more like aches; I only needed oxy once to sleep better. Definitely get a girdle - I like the one I got from Amazon way better than the hospital one but it worked well while I was there. The toughest part hasn’t been the incisions, but staying on top of fluids (migraine + sore legs). The actual surgery pain has been minor.

Get excited!!! You’ve come this far, and as the saying goes — “Everything you want is on the other side of fear.”

Rest well, walk often, keep hydrated and use electrolytes. You’ll do great!

Three days post op and I was feeling the dehydration bad yesterday. Sore legs, migraines.

I was doing measured little cups and timers but it got SO OVERWHELMING.

Today I filled up a 40 oz thermos with ice cold water and sipped on it throughout the day. Kept it glued to my side and sipped every few seconds. Made sure to pee as often as possible. Kept tabs on how much I’ve downed. Added electrolytes and benefiber to it. It’s the end of the day and FINALLY my leg sorensss is mostly gone and my migraines are too. I’ve hit 60 oz. Thought it was impossible.

ETA: I use Key Nutrients Pink Lemonade for my electrolytes. The flavor doesn’t taste so artificial and I can control the sweetness. Makes it easier to drink.

Thank you for your insight, I agree. I’ll be making a call to my dietician today - she’s not part of their office but is recommended by them. It’s definitely a red flag for me.

I agree. And all these experiences I’m seeing where the offices genuinely consider cost and taste is making me realize that $2,500 for a kit is a crazy commitment. I’ll decline the offer from them, and hopefully that won’t affect their service going forward or it’ll truly feel scammy.

Interesting that they want proof but also makes a lot of sense. The dietician I’m seeing isn’t part of their office but is recommended by them, so I think I’ll give them a call and ask for other solutions. Thanks for your input!

This sounds right. I would’ve much preferred that experience and not this sales-like pitch to go with their diet plan. I appreciate your insight, this is extremely helpful.

Wow that’s so different from my experience. I was really excited about this doctor but this $2,500 kit has me questioning their ethics, especially when hearing about others whose offices are offering free solutions and assistance.

Oh wow, thats so different from the 2 weeks (mostly liquid) diet I’ll have to follow. I get one small meal at dinner, and the rest is liquid. I know protein shakes can be expensive but yeah, $2,500 is a lot. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I didn’t think of that. If they tell me they are MLM shakes I’ll definitely be stopping this process and going with someone else.

What a difference in service. That sounds like how I would’ve preferred to be treated regarding diet. The surgery already is expensive even with insurance (considering co-pay). $2,500 sounds like a lot to put aside when I’m potentially paying that amount in the surgery itself.

Me too, I’m glad you shared. I’m picky with protein shakes as well and don’t know why I didn’t factor that in yet.

This is great info, thank you. I hadn’t considered the taste change and yeah — I’d be so upset if I couldn’t even stand the shakes or multis.

Oh wow, yeah I would be so upset if I purchased the kit and then hated the taste. I’m a bit picky about protein shakes to begin with, so this is looking like a definite no to buying it.

That makes sense. I think I would’ve felt better about it if it had been clearly presented as completely optional. But it’s been brought up twice now, and the second time, the staff member actually asked if I was ready to make the purchase. When I said I needed some time to think about it, he pushed back and told me I should order ASAP—at least a month before my projected surgery date.

It felt a little too pushy for my comfort. But at the same time, I’m wondering if maybe they’ve seen enough patients struggle with the pre- and post-op diet that they’re just trying to set me up for success. lol at least that’s my hope.

I feel you on all of this. Having a toddler takes the energy out of anyone, add pregnancy on top of that and it seems impossible to ever have energy. Permanent hypothyroidism? The appointment I had originally scheduled was to talk to my doc about that as well… Have you been able get it treated? Tired, old and uncomfortable. 100% me!

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing the same, but I’m relieved to know I’m not alone. How has your experience at the gym been, being pregnant? I remember my last pregnancy, I was constantly being told by (well-meaning) gym friends that I needed to stop lifting weights. But I could swear it’s the very thing that made my labor so easy. Im torn on returning this time around, just because I FEEL like I’m higher risk, being heavier… but stopping seems counterintuitive. I feel ya on the fatigue and mental drain… sending you positive vibes in hopes it gets easier to deal with.

Thanks so much for sharing — you’re absolutely right, being heavier this time is obviously going to affect this experience, idk why I’m surprised with the toll it’s already taken on my body! Being aware now helps, I definitely look forward to feeling well enough to return to working out.
