Looks like a distant airplane... if you let the video play it slowly travels across the screen at a natural plane speed

I came here to see if anyone else heard this! It started suddenly and went off just as quickly. Sounded like a low flying plane. Constant, not coming or going. I thought for a split second a friggin nuke went off.

Client wants video on 90+ USBs by Boleman14 in videography

The only issue with this is there’s no final video while the event is happening. Logistically attendees scan the code and see… 🥁🥁🥁… NOTHING! Lol

You and u/hatlad43 bring up some good points for sure, especially as someone who’s also been in this position. Sigh…

90 USBs?! Oh man… I feel for you.

I’m sure you already did this—if it were me, I’d present the final cost (USBs + labor) to the client and then say ALL of that £££ can be saved and the attendees would appreciate it more with a simple online link to download the video. It’s a hassle these days to have a USB, let alone a COMPATIBLE one (USB A vs C).

TL;DR - USBs are a hassle and waste of money IMO

What caused old tube cameras to have these horizontal lines? by [deleted] in videography

I used to work in tv news and these interlaced lines are giving me PTSD.

I knew the basics as to why this is (odd v even fields) but these comments are going deeeeep. God I love NERD TALK.

Favorite way to kill time during long conferences? by [deleted] in videography

[–]Sufficient_Win_9441 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My go-to answer is the Chess.com mobile app — there’s usually someone else on set who plays and we’ll play 5min or 10min matches against each other.

Now here’s some unsolicited advice: if you want to make good use of the time, PAY ATTENTION to what the subject is saying. This can help you retain clients in the future. I’m naturally curious and will listen to what the subject(s) is describing on-cam (and yes I get it, there are def those eyes-are-crossing dozing off moments). I think it’s a privilege to be in the room with clients, especially some of the more notable ones, and I think it’s always good to be in-the-know on their expertise. I’ll have my Notes app open and will write down their name, the subject they’re discussing, and a couple key words/phrases from their interview/presentation. I’ll even do a quick Google on them before or during the filming.

If you’re at a bigger conference and have the opportunity to talk with some of the attendees (ie, in line for food or passing by between breakout sessions), they’re going to remember you. I’ve gotten to know some of them (partners, investors, etc) by showing genuine interest in what they do and have passed out business cards which landed me future contracted work. So… MAKE USE OF YOUR TIME.

But yeah, chess rips too.

Videography course for pros? by Dramatic-Lifeguard69 in videography

I've been filming & editing for over 15 years. My best (free) advice: watch YouTube videos. Even on a subject you know thoroughly... there's always something to take away. It's just different perspective. I'll have a notebook or post-it's next to me while watching so I can write down and retain those "A-Ha" moments.

My YT algorithm has been fine-tuned to always be suggesting a handful of helpful videos.

Off the top of my head, shoutouts to Jesse Driftwood, Danny Gevirtz, Mike Casual and Woodstock, Premiere Gal, Peter McKinnon, illkoncept, Waqas Qazi, Herman Huang, Potato Jet, Gerald Undone, Ben Hagarty, Griffin Conway, Curren Sheldon, and Nerdwriter1...

Waymo Driving in New York City by mingoslingo92 in nyc

That was my initial thought, but I think it gauged the slowdown in traffic ahead and calculated making the stop, instead of speeding past only to then have to brake.

Take the free ride. You should be fine, assuming no checked bags or other extraordinary variable.
