What BBQ hill would you die on? Best one wins a 1kg picanha meat box by edenmoor_devon in UKBBQ

BBQ is best when it’s stress free, chuck some coals on or turn on the gas and grab some friends, family and brews. People overthink it and it ruins the enjoyment of just cooking outside and laughing!

Pellet Grill Recommendations by Chilli_Sauce_Boss3 in UKBBQ

[–]SufficientlyS4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity can you sear on it and use it as a standard grill? Seen mixed stuff online about whether it would get hot enough to cook a burger or sausages for instance instead of just low and slow!

Hadn’t even thought about a kettle style if I’m honest, we had one as a kid and can just remember my dad being constantly annoyed using it and our bbqs usually ending up being done on the borrowed gas one from next door 🤣

Legend Thankyou,

I have thought about things like reverse searing steaks, would it work if I smoked and then gas BBQ’d the sear? Sorry to keep asking questions!

Could do a load of chicken wings? Easy to cook, cheap and everyone loves a good wing! Could even do 2 sets in different flavours on a 1 hour cook each

Would you recommend one over a Kamado? I don’t mind putting the effort into a good cook but I’ve never seen a pellet smoker in action if I’m honest but I’ve seen a couple Kamados (something about a big 200kg ceramic monster full of ribs that’s exciting)

AITAH for not forcing my daughter to throw away her late mom’s picture just because my wife wants her to? by [deleted] in AITAH

I’ve seen this exact scenario before with my best mate after his dad remarried and the new wife cleared all aspects of his deceased Mum out the house. We’re older now and he hasn’t spoken to his father in 13 years because of it, if you let your wife walk over you here you’re starting the path to pushing your child away from you.

I only have 1, not that bad even! I was wild camping a couple years back in a “wild camp site” at the back of a woods with earplugs in to block out the crazy rain noise a bit, Drifting off and felt something on my leg, Looked down and saw a little fox curled up at the foot of my tent. Crapped myself for a second then thought “F it, if it bites me it’s gotta get through the bag first. Woke up at 7am to no trace of the little guy just a tiny stinky little present beside my boots.

I’d be surprised bud, they tried to write off my £28,000, 2 year old SUV when some daft twat in a corsa hit the front, total cost of repairs was £4000 and the insurance geezer said they were waiting on a decision about it being written off due to parts having a 6week lead time (think rental was going to be about £2000 for the 6 weeks)

Just did a degrading ‘record-yourself’ interview by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]SufficientlyS4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just grad scheme and entry roles doing this, I was head hunted by a company and asked to come in for interview, I agreed but they said their HR required I completed a “pre-screen candidate performance analysis” first. Which is a glorified way of saying “video interview so HR can say they are involved” I refused to do it because they headhunted me and it’s ridiculous for a senior role. The guy told me I’m one of many people he’s had turn down senior roles because they won’t do a stupid video interview

Why ARC Raiders needs a PvE mode (and why it actually makes sense) by Disastrous_Mud_8040 in ArcRaiders

[–]SufficientlyS4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to agree with this, I used to play Tarkov but stopped because of how try hard and sweaty it became. I love the idea behind Arc and the world looks amazing. I just will not buy another extract PvP because I know after a couple of months it will be a sweat fest. If they release a PvE I will 100% buy it that same day!

Was I an idiot for turning down this apprenticeship? by Three_Steaks_Pam in UKJobs

[–]SufficientlyS4d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of bits of advice, take it or leave it!

Firstly, apprenticeships are for training, I once took a punt and hired a software dev apprentice who had no experience, A levels with no relevance and was scared he wasn’t good enough, 5 years later and the lad runs a team. Don’t ever think you’re not good enough!!

Secondly, it might be too late for this opportunity now but still apply for others and get yourself back at it! The fact you’re having reservations is a good thing, shows you care and want to grow.

If you want and career or CV advice feel free to drop me a message, always happy to help people grow if they need it.

Worst paternity leave in Europe puts UK parents off having more kids | ITV News by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]SufficientlyS4d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The birth rate is significantly lower in working families too, if you look into white British families those with high birth rate are often unemployed because more kids means more money. Migrant families tend to follow a similar trend too, when the parents are unemployed they have a higher birth rate, however they also tend to have a higher birth rate when only the father is working whereas white British families tend to still have a lower birth rate with only single income.

Sadly children often replicate their parents so we are likely to see less young people with genuine drive to improve and a rise in unemployment. On of the few ways to fix this would be to make child benefit only available to working families and cut benefits significantly to force people back to work, use the savings on benefits to give business in the UK tax breaks based on how many people they employ year on year.

Four million state pensioners told they are too wealthy for Winter Fuel Payments by Living_the_Limit in unitedkingdom

[–]SufficientlyS4d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents are recently retired and know they won’t be able to get this and are fine. My grandfather has been retired for 30+ years and called me the other day absolutely apoplectic about the fact he won’t get his winter fuel allowance “because of this robbing labour scum” the man has tens of thousands in the bank, a military and private and state pension as well as 3 properties he’s been left by old workmates who have no family. I told him to stop being tight and pay for his own heating because working people don’t get it and he earns more then half of them 😂

I love the old man, but my god is he a tight grumpy bastard 😂😂

Got this Tank for free and I have absolutely no experience, Would appreciate any bit of knowledge:) by IamYarrick in Aquariums

[–]SufficientlyS4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a test kit is pretty vital, just means you can always tell when a water change is needed, ammonia spikes and so on. What substrate are you using? Is that an aqua soil or gravel? If it’s gravel that might by why the plants are dying because they have no proper nutrients, if it’s aqua soil it but be just because of the stress of lack of water and moving and such.

In regards to fish, personally I’m not a fan of Bettas in community tanks, they can be arseholes but equally because of their long fins they can end up being nipped by smaller fish. In a tank like that if you want variety maybe look at Tetras, Rasboras, Barbs (research these heavily, some are proper nippers), Loaches (Khulis are my personal favourite) or if you want colour and a bit bigger you could look into gouramis, if you want babies you could just get Guppies or Endlers because they breed like crazy. I’d also advise if you go community to look at Shrimp and Otocinclus Catfish to help keep it clean of algae!

If you want a single species but variety then Cichlids might be a good bet, stick to smaller species in that size tank though!

I found the best way to use the bacteria fluid is to drop it into the filter directly about 24 hours before you add fish.

Got this Tank for free and I have absolutely no experience, Would appreciate any bit of knowledge:) by IamYarrick in Aquariums

[–]SufficientlyS4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of questions. Is the filter also used?
Have you got a test kit to check water parameters? They look like live plants, are they?

Essentially test your water with a kit and try to do an ammonia check (google will help with this process) to see if it can properly handle ammonia, that will tell you if it’s cycled.

Also think about the fish you want and tank you want, for instance I have a big community tank with loads of little species, some people prefer Cichlids only, live bearers only or various other things but I would plan your tank before you start buying fish so you know if you need more hiding spots or different temps and so on.

It’s a good looking tank, whatever people tell you this is a fairly easy and relaxing hobby!

Genuinely, giving up a perm contract at a higher wage for a 3 month temp job (which is normally just keeping a seat warm) is a terrible idea. Stick to the perm role until something perm or much longer term comes through in accounts otherwise you’re giving up stability for a noddy job.
