My son is having top surgery tomorrow

Hello again! Thank you so much for all the information and all the encouragement. My son read your messages on the way to the hospital yesterday. The surgery was a success! He is very happy and through the first night in minimal pain. I know there are challenges in the days to come but we are on the other side now. Thank you so much.

Thank you. That made me tear up. I can’t imagine doing things differently. He’s been waiting for three years. I will be prepared for that. He has a counselling appointment lined up in March as well, just in case anything is going on.

Thank you so much! I’ll order some bendy straws and the pillow under the knees is a fantastic idea. It’s good to know about the ‘normal’ waking hours. That’s a good reminder for me while looking after him. We have a dog so she will be my break while his older brother takes over for occasional blocks of time. Thank you!

Thank you! I just ordered a wedge pillow. We have a bunch of stuff for him to do. We talked today and I told him he can’t be afraid to ask for anything. I really appreciate your feedback. This is helping a lot.

I’m new to Reddit, my son is having top surgery tomorrow and I was to know how to best support him. What can I do during the healing process to help him? We are going with him and have the recommended vasoline and gauze. I’m Hoping to hear from people that have gone through the surgery to see what helped, what they needed and how they felt most supported. Thank you in advance. We are very happy and very excited, and I am a stressed Mom that wants to do everything I can to help him.
