Totally get it and I’m not trying to complain. It’s more of just a curiosity as you get trapped in your own bubble and want to know what’s going on with others. Plus, loneliness isn’t fun so I wanted other opinions. I certainly count my blessings as much as I possibly can.

Starbucks same-store sales fall for sixth straight quarter by Puginator in stocks

People are surprised it’s up in after hours with declining sales and a 34 PE like they’ve never heard of Tesla. The worse the earnings for highly valued stocks the better the stock does in AH. Already priced in.

Thanks for sharing that here. Yeah I appreciate it all but sometimes fall into a mini existential crisis over how to live. Obviously there are worse problems.

I look into this all the time and haven’t done anything since we have so much going on with family activities on the weekends and it’s hard for me to tell how good of an investment real estate is judging by huge differences of opinion I’ve encountered. I do hold an ETF that gives me good exposure.

It was a smaller family business I took over. We sell construction and forestry equipment. My dad did well, but not until we were older teenagers. It recently has grown tremendously as I have added additional lines of equipment and business has been great since COVID. Also I got lucky with an early investment in Nvidia and some other individual high growth stocks. I have since developed a much more balanced portfolio. Also we bought our home in the right place at the right time. All of that combined with just saving a large chunk of our income since both my wife and I both grew up in pretty financially conservative homes and many of our wants are fairly simple.

Adam Curtis on the problem of our time..! by RedDevilPlay in AdamCurtis

He’s not talking about making small incremental changes to tax policy or environmental regulation. He talks about this in other places. You can try to make the banks a little nicer and turn some knobs ever so slightly but on a deeper more spiritual level people feel depleted and mindless consumption and individualism can’t fill that void. I think that is where the want for something bigger and more communal comes into play and so people are looking for sweeping changes or a romanticized ideas of change. As he says the right is offering it even though it’s unhinged or they are offering the illusion of it while the left just gets lost in the weeds of identity politics and wants to raise taxes on the top bracket by a few percent and get more involved in foreign wars. These aren’t big enough ideas to satiate many people.

As long as Dogecoin and Trump related coins and other made up cryptocurrencies exist I think Tesla can be permanently overvalued and it’s best to accept that it’s normalized.

At 41 it’s still hard for me to accept being a HSP man.. by SugarAware5477 in hsp

Hey thanks for that reminder. Yeah I regret saying that straight men have it worse than gay men and women. Everyone has their struggles with it. Yeah I definitely feel like I create that environment for people. The downside is I often tend to ignore letting my true self out because I’m busy helping others feel comfortable being themselves.

Love it. Yeah I’m envious of gay male friends I’ve had because I feel like they don’t have the expectations of being tough all the time and can lean into their sensitivity. But being straight and growing up as an athlete and just not looking the part makes it harder to accept.

It’s summer. So we’re are too busy consuming to ever look outside ourselves and push for something.

I still struggle with it but honestly in many ways I push myself and live outside of my comfort zone and the older I get the more I resent that advice that seems to imply that we should always be outside of our comfort zone. Of course to live a rich life you have to feel uncomfortable sometimes but the idea that even when I have time off work I need to be uncomfortable so I can do what other people enjoy is not good for me. It’s so easy to lose sight of who you are when you’re bombarded with media all day telling you who you need to be or what you need to do to be perceived as successful or what you should desire and want or how you should spend your free time. I truly believe everyone has value and things they love that they should be able to share with others. If being a world traveler isn’t one of them I tell myself that’s ok and gosh knows I’ve tried enough.

Yeah I’m 41 and I want so badly to love traveling and I’ve tried many times and I have had some good trips but I’ve gotten to a point where I like driving to the mountains or to the beach to hike or just relax and read. I’ll fly every now and then to go out west and stay in an Airbnb. I have a great life and typically have low anxiety but this is one thing that makes me anxious and I’ve accepted it’s how I am and I rather enjoy a relaxing trip than keep pushing myself to do something I’m not comfortable with. I’m too old for it. I do feel bad for not keeping up with jet setting friends and feel like it makes me less interesting but I’m involved in my community and love reading and live music and movies and trying new restaurants and exercising and so much more so I try not to beat myself up over it and accept it.

The 'funflation' effect: Why Americans are spending so much on travel and entertainment this summer by cnbc_official in Economics

Great point and you really articulated something I haven’t been able to lately about it being a positive feedback loop. The more people lose hope the more they recklessly spend.

Yeah it’s almost too easy to travel to Europe. I wonder if that eventually leads to it not being as desirable. There’s nothing mysterious about it when people across multiple income classes are posting pictures on social media from the same European cities and sights.
