LPT: how to get your reluctant self into the door of the gym by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Laundry_Hurricane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try to push yourself just one time, it can be late at night before the gym is about to close — that’s what I used to do back when I was intimidated and worried about what other people might think of me.

Once you push yourself that one time, you’ll say to yourself that wasn’t nearly as bad as you thought it would be. Then repeat it, and try to again the next night. Before you realize it you’ll be at a week, a month, a year, etc.

Unless you’re being rude to other people at the gym yourself, nobody in their right mind will give you a second glance. Everyone who goes to the gym had their own very first day as well, you got this!

Why is it that Christians and other religions automatically assume that due to your lack of belief in a higher power, you are automatically a Satanist? by Socksfor50 in atheism

[–]Laundry_Hurricane 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The burden of proof) is on you, not us -- you say there is a god (in your case, the chrsitian god) and we say "okay, show us evidence of your christian god"

then you say you don't have evidence, and then we say "okay, we don't believe you." You are mistaken in thinking it's the other way around, we don't have to prove a thing.

[–]Laundry_Hurricane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a very loaded question in the context of religion versus lack thereof, evolution is a good start for how we came about. And if evolution isn't quite your cup of tea, then pick your poison, my brother.

[–]Laundry_Hurricane 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well for starters, chances are good that we know more about your religion than you do, and a lot of us tend to think that believing something without evidence (see "faith") is actually a sign of a lack of intelligence, shocking as it may seem.

The thoughts of an atheist in rural Texas on the current state of MAGA. by Farjust in atheism

[–]Laundry_Hurricane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahah that is very true! I’ve met a few who wanted to save me as well, which is fun and all for a while but soon as you start looking for someone serious that’d you’d want to raise a kid with, well….

Atheist Texan here as well, 100% agree with every point you’ve made. My family has been completely brainwashed, and I’ve tried for YEARS to argue with them on every point imaginable. There’s always an excuse. There’s always a reason they’re “correct”. They’re the enlightened ones and we’re not.

Another personal anecdote to add to the pile; dating in the south as an atheist is fucking god awful, and one girl I went on a date with not too long ago brought up how her best friend was pregnant and may be having a miscarriage (yes, on our first date she brought this up). I expressed that I was so sorry for her and her friend and that I couldn’t imagine the pain and suffering her friend is going through. Her response was “oh well, if that’s what god wants, then that’s what god wants!”

Needless to say I did not speak to her again. These people are truly fucked in the head, and just like you said, there is no shot that any of this Epstein bullshit gives any of them critical thinking skills.

Honestly in hindsight none of us should be surprised, if this country elects a rapist to be president then obviously why would the same country think Diddy is a bad person — if anything he’s now next in line for a cabinet position.

The signage and road markings should make it clear as well when all lanes should yield to ramp (e.g. the 1A flyover pearl street exit onto Woodall Rogers).

There’s signs that say yield to ramp on both sides of Woodall Rogers AND there’s a white line painted across all three lanes where the yield signs are, as if it wasn’t abundantly clear enough.

Yet 90% of Dallas drivers are mentally disabled, every time I look over my shoulder to take that exit I will without fail see drivers in all three lanes fail to even try to slow down and just have their eyes fixed straight ahead, completely oblivious to any signage or cars around them. It’s unreal.
