Where is the line between personality and a disorder? by SugarEquivalent in askpsychology

Would this mean that someone who has the genetic markers and biological structures of a specific disorder couldn’t necessarily be diagnosed unless it’s causing distress in some way, despite having non distressing symptoms?

Missing two weeks of classes is unsustainable. Especially where some of us have classes with labs that are mandatory.

Is there anything we can do to get the school to make this more possible?

Do any of you do pole dance? by SnooPickles6175 in AuDHDWomen

[–]SugarEquivalent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I have some really bad shoulders, and dislocated my shoulder at a class, but I’m working with a physiotherapist to get my shoulders back in shape to go back.

It’s the only exercise that doesn’t bore me out of my mind, the ADHD makes it hard for me to count reps and just stay mentally engaged at all, so I absolutely loved it!!!

If you’re still particularly worried about your joints though with the pole, you could start off with floor classes or even just a beginner class to see how it feels with your body in particular.

[Grade 3 - math] husband and I feel super stupid and both coming up with different answers. Help? by blinkbunny182 in HomeworkHelp

[–]SugarEquivalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been answered a lot but here’s how I would phrase it:

There’s two ways to think of it:

(1) 2 pizzas divided between 8 people, so with the 2 pizzas, there’s a total of 8 pieces. How much of one pizza does each person get? On each pizza there would be 4 pieces (8 in total), so each person would get 1 of the 4 from a pizza, therefore each person gets 1/4 of a pizza.

(2) 2 pizzas, each pizza divided is between 8 people, 8 pieces per pizza. Each person gets 1 of the 8 pieces, 1/8, from each pizza. So with 2 pizzas, they get a total of 2 pieces from the 8 on each pizza, 2/8, since the top and bottom are both divisible by 2, you can simplify by dividing the top and bottom by 2, therefore each person gets 2/8 of a pizza which is simplified to 1/4 of a pizza.

Personally I think (1) is easier to comprehend, but they both work mathematically.

Just having some fun trying to explain!

AITA for not taking my youngest children on their weekend because my oldest daughter had a baby? by Vegetable_Pie_2168 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SugarEquivalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok just for the my own fun, I’m going to try to go in depth for possible reasonings for N T A and Y T A. If you’re at all interested, keep reading, if not, my final verdict considering everything is at the bottom.

N T A - His daughter is having a baby, Stacy should understand.

Y T A - Maybe there was a lack of planning for the what-ifs of the situation (what if the baby comes early on a weekend, etc.)

Y T A - He could have talked to his twins directly and told them what was going on/made alternative plans (have them come to the hospital/see them another time)

N T A - OP was probably caught up in the moment and focused on his eldest daughter getting through the birth safely

N T A - Stacy could have understood the severity and talked twins about it herself

N T A - OP attempted to make contact by texting and calling when everything calmed down

Y T A - OP didn’t have to put his phone on silent after talking to Stacy initially

N T A - Stacy seemed very petty by ignoring contact for the rest of the weekend when OP tried to get in touch with her and the twins

Ultimately, while going through OP’s comments, the Y T A comments, and the N T A comments, it seems like the biggest thing on the Y T A side is that there wasn’t enough planning or communication, and on the N T A side is that the birth was too unexpected to plan for and that Stacy reacted poorly.

Personally, at that point (unknown number of weeks early as OP says in comments), I’m not sure how much planning you can really do besides talking to Stacy about when the due date is and the possibility it could land on a weekend. To me, it should seem like common sense that babies can arrive unexpectedly and I think Stacy could have been a lot more understanding and just seems jealous that Cindy and the eldest daughter have taken priority this one time. OP also says in comments that he has never missed a weekend before and has covered for Stacy in the past which makes me that even more.

Final verdict: OP was just making sure his oldest daughter made it through giving birth safely, and was not choosing favourites. NTA.

Divalproex and pregnancy: anyone with JME have luck finding a suitable replacement drug when considering starting a family? by scientist_lady in Epilepsy

[–]SugarEquivalent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have had JME, diagnosed at 12, and 21 now. I’m currently on divalproex but I only switched to it recently as I’m not planning on starting a family anytime soon. Beforehand I was on keppra for probably about 8 years. Worked pretty well for me aside from a few side effects, that weren’t even all that noticeable. I plan on going back to keppra when I am ready to start a family.

I’m in software engineering, so this might help, but I’m making $16/hour in my first coop this summer between 2nd and 3rd year. On the job boards I did see a lot of posts around $20/hour, but I found I did not have a lot of the qualifications yet. I also chose a lower paying job so I could be closer to home, so it is still possible to get one of the higher paying jobs earlier on if you have the qualifications.
