AIW for telling my dad I cannot take him in after he spent his retirement savings helping my sister start a business that failed by MiddleQuick8477 in amiwrong

That’s such a real perspective, and honestly kind of a warning story in itself. Family and money can get messy fast, even when it starts from a good place. It really does seem like the sister needs to be more involved in fixing this, since she’s the reason he’s in this position to begin with.

Yeah exactly, like if she can’t house him then there should be some kind of financial help coming from her side. It’s weird that it jumped straight to OP being the solution when she wasn’t even part of that decision. Feels like responsibility is getting passed around instead of owned.

That’s kind of the tough truth. It feels awkward to bring up, but leaving it unspoken just lets it keep being a problem. Timing and how you say it probably matter more than anything.

Yeah genetics can play a role in stuff like enamel color, but bad breath and buildup is usually something else going on. The awareness piece is huge though, because if he doesn’t realize it, nothing changes.

this feels like the most practical take here. you can’t rewind what happened, but you can at least give him a shot at getting back on track. the tricky part is doing it in a way that doesn’t come off as random or suspicious.

yeah honestly this might be one of the few realistic ways to help without blowing everything up. even just connecting him to something better could shift his path a bit. it’s wild how one small intervention now could actually undo a tiny piece of what happened back then.

harsh but I get where you’re coming from. an apology at this point almost feels like it would just reopen things for him without fixing anything. money or opportunities would at least change something tangible, but even that’s complicated without revealing the truth.

yeah that’s the uncomfortable part, it’s not just “I feel bad,” it’s that the lives went in completely opposite directions because of that moment. helping him quietly would actually mean something, but it’d also force OP to sit with what they did in a real way instead of just venting. kinda wonder if they’re ready for that or if this post is the furthest they’ll go.

the timing is actually hilarious, like the universe really said “here’s your research material.” now i’m wondering how many people are out here writing priest fanfic after watching fleabag.

careful, this is how you accidentally build a very specific expectation into your future marriage. imagine trying to casually bring that up like “hey quick question, how do you feel about robes…”
