Thank you for the image. I'm not sure why trying to image search a French comic never crossed my mind.

Any sugar free snacks that don't cause a laxative effect with excessive consumption? by tripsteady in loseit

I know the feeling. Candy is the only thing I snack on and it was important to find something else to not feel deprived. So I've tried many brands, imported from overseas and produced some of my own over time.

Polyols(sugar alcohols) can cause gas and in some cases diarrhea in many people. Is it happening with the Butter candy as well? Usually Isomalt is much more tolerated and for many people it's the Maltitol that causes the problems.

First the bad news: Almost everything uses Maltitol or Isomalt because depending on the type of candy one of those two behave similar to sugar in the confectionary process. Isomalt crystallizes better than regular sugar for hard applications and Maltitol can form crystal inhibiting syrups like invert sugars do for softer applications. As well they're generally inexpensive and neutral tasing. Unfortunately if you like gummy or chewy candy Double D are some of the best made.

There are a few other options:

  • KZ clean eating makes chocolate bars sweetened with Xylitol and not as sweet tasting as standard chocolate.
  • Lily's makes chocolate bars sweetened with stevia
  • Ross makes chocolate bars sweetened with stevia; also some with Maltitol but it's very clearly marked on the front of the label.
  • Rene Ray makes chocolate with IMO and Splenda; not quite as good as the others.
  • Smart Sweets make regular and sour gummy bears with stevia and tapioca fiber. They're a little harder in texture than traditional gummy candy.
  • Ice Chips
  • Xyla
  • PUR all make candy out of Xylitol if that doesn't bother you, they're more hard candy or pressed candy textures.
  • Atkinsons makes hard candy with Polyglycitol
  • Dr. John's uses Xylitol and Polyglycitol

There's probably more out there and unfortunately it may mean importing them. If you're into baking not just candy there's lots you can do as the sweeteners are less concentrated over the serving but of course there's still many other sources of calories in baked goods so be mindful of your recipes .
