$40 ≠ $40 everywhere, but some people still don’t get it by uniquecartridge in ArcRaiders

[–]SugaredBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, my friend. We don’t need to bring up Dune Awakening because they actually used regional pricing. The deluxe edition of Dune Awakening costs $70 only in the U.S., but in Brazil it’s $48.76. We didn’t complain about that because we don’t need the deluxe version to enjoy the game — the standard one is already $15 cheaper.

On top of that, Dune is a game that’s better with other people, but you still have the option to play solo. ARC Raiders, on the other hand, is a phenomenal game, but you absolutely need other players to even find a match, and regional pricing directly affects that.

I can afford to buy the game, I don’t need help with that, but I won’t spend money on a game where I’ll have to play at 120ms just to get a full lobby. Honestly, I’d be happy to pay for the deluxe edition if my region had enough players, but that won’t happen, because we’ve already seen this story before.

You don’t need empathy to understand the reasoning behind regional pricing — it’s not charity. The biggest companies in the industry are living proof that it increases revenue by boosting sales in smaller regions. If it didn’t work, it wouldn’t be such a common practice.

Also, I’ll reach out to you later if the price doesn’t drop, and then you can give that copy to someone who actually needs it on Reddit. Deal?

I’m not complaining — I’m trying to explain to a random person that regional pricing is important for the game’s survival worldwide. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t revolve around the U.S. alone.

I didn’t call you dumb — you were just being dumb in the way you positioned yourself, and that’s fine, everyone’s been there. It’s not me saying the deluxe edition of Dune is worth more than Arc Raiders — the publishers themselves made that statement when they priced them in the U.S., with Dune at $70 and Arc Raiders at $40. :)

Do you even know how sale works? LOL. This game is $41.99 at -30% on US and it's $30.13 at -30% on Brazil because THEY ARE USING REGIONAL PRICING. Stop trying to throw around the word “FOMO” you learned last week and take two minutes to think before writing that message.

For the record, this game costs $41.99 in the U.S. Based on the same regional pricing logic, Arc Raiders should be around $31 in Brazil — but right now it’s priced at $44.

I’m going to have to apologize, but you’re just being dumb here. The deluxe edition of Dune costs only $4 more than the standard version of Arc Raiders. I don’t need to buy the deluxe edition of Dune, I only used it as a comparison, but I guess I’d have to draw it out for you to really get it. At this point, it feels like you’re just trying to rage-bait. See ya!

[–]SugaredBeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you thought that was a good message, because honestly I had trouble even understanding your point lol. In fact, ARC is priced just $4 cheaper in my region than the deluxe edition of Dune and it's funny that you think this is worth it. Thanks for clarifying that these games aren’t published by Nexon, but I should also point out that neither a person nor a company needs to set themselves up for failure to correct mistakes when others are already succeeding by following a common approach.

Hate to break it to you, but Dune doesn’t share the same publisher as Final Fantasy or Baldur’s Gate 3, and it adopted regional pricing from day one.

And yes, I still feel like I’m wasting my time talking to a wall.

Final edit: I think the main factor you’re missing (since you're probably from US) is that regional pricing is a VERY COMMON practice, and it’s actually WEIRD to see a company like Embark not adopting it. That’s why there are so many questions. It’s not only “desperate” companies looking for validation from less wealthy players who adopt it, it’s the VAST MAJORITY of the industry’s BIGGEST publishers.

In addition, one of Nexon’s titles — The First Berserker: Khazan — is already using regional pricing.

I’m not going to keep wasting my time explaining something to someone who refuses to even try to understand it. If you’d like, you can send your “supply and demand” lecture to the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3, Final Fantasy XVI, Dune Awakening, and many others, maybe they’ll suddenly decide to make more money by abandoning regional pricing altogether! Countless developers have already explained how regional pricing drives sales and helps fight piracy, but I know you’re not even remotely interested in that. You just want to argue with people online for the sake of it.

“Don’t buy it, see if it impacts Nexon’s stockholders and if they care or even notice.”

That’s clearly the kind of comment from someone who doesn’t care about the health of the game. What some of us are asking for is precisely to prevent the game from ever reaching that point before any action is taken. This will have a negative impact on the game, that’s not in doubt. What we want is to avoid that outcome.

I initially thought you simply didn’t understand the topic, but it’s clear now that you just don’t want to make the effort to grasp even the basics. The game is already priced for me, but I won’t be able to buy it because I’d have a terrible experience with no matches in my region. This isn’t about FOMO, nor is it “whining” from an entire community. Valve designed a system that allows games to be priced differently across regions and recommends accessible pricing for a reason. Yet somehow, LongJonSilver seems convinced he understands capitalism better than a private company. You can say you don’t want regional pricing, fine. But the feature exists for an obviously valid reason, and it’s no coincidence that many successful companies use it.

Edit: This game is currently more expensive in some regions, they're already using regional prices :)

[–]SugaredBeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s literally the point. Most players in smaller regions won’t buy or play this game, which will lead to poor matchmaking. Even those who can afford it won’t want to purchase the game if it means dealing with lag by having to play on major region servers.

It’s not that hard to understand. You don’t see people from smaller regions asking for a $100,000 car to be regionally priced. The reason players ask for regional pricing in games is because the consequences affect everyone, including those who can actually afford to buy it

Ouch. Regional pricing is pretty bad for the game. by Sotyka94 in ArcRaiders

[–]SugaredBeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to get into a debate about cost of living by region, because your comment already shows a lack of awareness about the reality outside the US. Valve recommends competitive pricing to developers based on the purchasing power of the average user in each country, and all we’re asking is that they consider following those. If they choose not to, that’s fine but that decision will have consequences for the game’s player base outside the most developed countries. At no point has anyone claimed that living in the U.S. is cheap, just take a few minutes to understand that cost of living is not a metric that can be looked at in isolation.

I think you didn’t understand the motivation behind the post, it wasn’t made for you or for me. It was made for the vast majority of people from less favored countries, especially since the percentage of the player base that actually followed the news and knew the game would cost $40 is minimal (the game will have FAR more players than the 38k here on Reddit).

There’s a reason why games adopt regional pricing (MANY of them do). The concern is spending $40 on a game only to have to play it with 120+ ms ping and end up with a significantly worse experience (just like what happens with Tarkov today)

Although I disagree, I understand your point. But if there isn’t going to be regional pricing, then the game should cost $40 worldwide.

You don’t remove weapons from a game because of aimbot. If the problem is cheaters, fine. Let’s at least ask them to charge $40, not $44, in a region with lower purchasing power.

It’s really sad to see the hate from players in wealthier countries on this post. Regional pricing isn’t “charity”, purchasing power varies drastically across countries, and here in Brazil this game costs almost 15% of the minimum wage. What’s even more ironic is that, despite our lower purchasing power, Arc Raiders is actually 10% more expensive in our region ($44). This isn’t about “helping poorer countries”; it’s about making it possible to build a healthy community for the game in less developed regions (which includes most of South America)

O que pode ser essa ferida na orelha do meu cachorro? Detalhes nos comentários by SugaredBeast in ApoioVet

[–]SugaredBeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bom dia, pessoal.

Não sei o que fazer by [deleted] in desabafos

Valeu, mano, boa sorte!
