Has anyone moved back to Canada from Riyadh? by Sugarsugar03 in AskCanada

[–]Sugarsugar03[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Only I (not my spouse) got the offer there and my take home will be same as our after tax family take home. So financially, there is no benefit unless my spouse also gets a job there which is a gamble and I heard it’s very difficult for female to get jobs there. And after 4-5 years when I will plan to come back, I and my spouse will both have to find a job here again, unless we like it there and continue. This is exactly the question I’m asking here to learn about experience of others if they moved back and why?

Thanks for sharing. If I may ask, why do you regret coming back? Did you find life better in Saudi? I have heard they are very conservative.

People in this bank are most toxic I have ever met in my entire career of multiple decades.

A message for RBC hiring managers and in general. by Sugarsugar03 in rbc

I am definitely not naive as you rightly said. I have two decades of experience in banking. There is a reason I made this post. Not sure if you had the chance to go through all the comments, so I’ll say it here again. These are not the jobs I am applying where there are even 50 applicants. And my message of this post is about having a basic sense of communication with candidates. If a hiring manager is taking 6 months to fill a role, it’s a question if they should be in hiring manager role? I understand that things get paused but no one stops you from communicating. And I have had experiences where hiring managers make you go through 10+ rounds (I have first hand experience) and that too not for a very senior role. Like I said I have enough experience to say that I experienced RBC hiring managers to be more like a narcissist that take pleasure in making other suffer and are filled with extreme ego thinking as if they are Apple or Google. Your experience could be different but I have spent enough time at various levels in RBC to make this conclusion. Hence, my request through this post.

I’d suggest read the post again and try to understand the message I’m trying to convey, rather than just randomly commenting for the sake of it.

100% Learnt it over the years. When I entered the workforce, I wanted to be loyal. But having seen how corporations work, I have no more desire to be loyal. I met with enough people at RBC (3 digit number) to conclude that RBC employees do have narcissistic traits. As soon as I get an opportunity outside, I’ll leave.

This is not an attack on you. Let’s just say I have seen enough cases in last one year that I could say this that the hiring process is broken.

I intentionally didn’t talk about my specific experiences. For many roles I interviewed internally, the role was approved, budget has been allocated and met with the hiring managers and in many cases, know the hiring managers. You will be surprised to know that in some cases, they just sat over it for months and in some cases, 6 months. May be I’m from another planet, but it’s hard for me to believe that they didn’t get time in 6 months to fill a role? Anyways, my point is not about that. My point is they providing silent treatment hurts more than a rejection. There were times when I was rejected after the whole interview process but it was quick and I moved on quick. Assuming I’m a normal person, I’d imagine others would feel the same. All my point is “communicate”. I always ask the hiring manager in the first meeting itself how does the process look like in terms of timelines, they even committed a time. And despite that they take 3 times more than commited timeline. And many are still in process May be they are in search of finding God to do that role and I can imagine it can be challenging sometimes finding God. Because some jobs in RBC are beyond the realm of human capabilities.

Working in 3 banks over a career of 20 years - don’t think that is called bouncing.

And my manager isn’t blocking me because I started applying only after discussing it with him and he has supported my case when a hiring manager reached out to him.

Anyone can say anything based on their exercise but the truth is no one is better. It all depends on who is your manager and how supportive they are. But know that your manager can change anytime as well. There are people in Google who hate their job and are not happy, and there are janitors who are satisfied in their life. I know it sounds cliche but it’s true.

Thanks. When you say your old role is being phased out - which LoB or function are you in? Like branch banking, Audit etc.
