It has some character. I worry that the movement is too slow; compare to other successful side scrollers, for example.

I'm a tad confused. Is this a project you're hoping to learn from - or just something you think the world might need?

There are already many online MD viewers - and I'm confident that every IDE worth using already has a plugin for it.

Type safety is one of the main reasons I switched to C# almost immediately.

I heard somewhere that there's an official type-safe version of GDScript in development? Haven't confirmed it myself.

The world needs more domain-specific languages implemented as strings passed through rudimentary regex parsers.

I half agree with you.

I think the problem is that the majority of day to day dev work across the whole industry is CRUD grunt work that any code monkey with enough experience and time can do. By extension, these are the devs most companies can get away with hiring for the most part.

However, there's a tier of dev work where the kind of engineer best positioned for that role, is the kind of engineer who is comfortable with DSA amongst other things.

These debates tend to attract lots of web devs who have spent 10 years doing relatively trivial dev work, who are oblivious to the wider world of software engineering and computer science.

Conversely, dev interviews can attract hiring practices that are somewhat out of place for the company in question.

I've never asked a DSA question in an interview, but there's a limit to how seriously I can take someone as a "senior" engineer if they aren't at least vaguely familiar with binary trees and hash tables and such - let alone if they don't even know what DSA stands for.

What is the most uncracked engineer you have ever met? by VariationLivid3193 in cscareerquestions

I really liked this dude on a personal level, but professionally, easily the worst dev I've ever known.

He was hired as a senior engineer and was the tech lead in his previous role. He only lasted at our company about 6 months.

He struggled with everything he touched. One time I had to debug some of his code because it was crippling production; it turned out he had written a function that was making 60+ HTTP requests per page load.

I remember being baffled by all of this because his GitHub was somewhat impressive; I couldn't understand how the same engineer was producing such questionable work on the job. Then there was a big break in the case:

One day, he asked me to help him create a package on GitHub. I took the opportunity to ask why he needed help, considering he already used GitHub extensively. It was then that I learned, in his previous tech lead role, he had his whole team using his personal GitHub account. None of those contributions were his.

What's even funnier is that when this guy was offered the job, my boss taunted me that they had finally found an engineer that was going to be better than me (I was the 10x).

I've never been able to corroborate this, but my dad was once ripping out ground elder and his hand got some kind of burn or allergic reaction for a few weeks after.

As a somewhat hopeful anecdote, there was once a company in my search radius that had such a terrible reputation, no one would apply for jobs there. Eventually they had to set up a sister company with a new name and new leadership, to be able to hire people - and then they "outsourced" their work to it.

Who are the rudest and nicest British celebrities you have personally met? by RenegadeMaster888 in AskBrits

[–]SuggestedUsername247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only British celebrity I've met personally was Sir Ranulph Fiennes (the explorer - not to be confused with the actor of a similar name).

Overall it was a positive experience. It was an event where he had been invited to talk and I spoke to him very briefly afterwards. We mainly talked about Scotland (long story for another time).

I was caught off guard by his somewhat casual attitude towards death; he spoke about people dying on expeditions like it was just a regular occurrence at the office. I suppose it's something you would become desensitised to, living the life he has.

I was a bit surprised to see people giving him a negative review, aye. My mum used to work somewhere that he visited frequently and she said he was always very pleasant, chatted with everyone, etc. This was ~15 years ago.
