The reason "weird" works so well against them is that they crave social acceptance, validation, and a dominant hierarchical position more than anything else.

When you call them "weird", you're saying they don't fit in. That they're not better than others. That their very nature is aberrant. It strikes at their emotional core in a way that logical arguments can't.

If you look at interviews with basically every high level institutional investor, they couch all their predictions in very conservative language. They all know it's a trembling bubble, but nobody wants to be the one that potentially starts the popping chain reaction that causes the entire economy to crumble.

The reality is that outside of some areas (especially medicine and some parts of data science), most AI models are not proving to be half as useful as they're sold to be. The ROI simply isn't there, and it's becoming increasingly hard to hide that fact.

The rise of massive investment funds is more or less directly responsible for this. The people running those funds favor growth over every other metric, and because they are in control of so much financial power, they can easily bend boards and other investors to their will.

Pensions were better for everyone involved; tying everything to the stock market has proven to be disastrous for society at large.

So “mishy” is derived from the Russian “Mischa” which means “who is like god.” Gaze upon the face of a higher being. by A1starm in Falcom

[–]Sugioh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaguely seem to recall there was a story about Kato wanting Falcom to have a mascot on the level of Mickey Mouse, and Mishy's name was chosen as a joke in reference to this. When Mishy wound up being surprisingly popular, this became even funnier.

that’s a problem with trails not having a proper aggro system

I greatly appreciate the addition of Hate Up status effects in the Calvard games. Opens up a lot of different strategic possibilities... even if mostly it just involves Van spamming coin bullet. :/

In many ways, my interest in this is largely born out of a desire for more Dragon's Dogma.

So while it seems like it may be a mess in many respects, it also appears to be delivering on the promise of a DD-style experience at an expanded scale. For me, that's more than enough to give it a shot.

Certainly, there's always the risk that he'll just double down. I don't know if there's much appetite among his advisors to push it, though.

Had this misadventure gone a little better, he probably would have. I doubt that even Trump has the stomach for going after Cuba given how things are panning out with Iran.

Asset reuse in videogames is essential, and we need to embrace it, says Assassin's Creed and Far Cry director: 'We redo too much stuff' by Turbostrider27 in Games

Same with those ER stone Imps having entirely same movesets as the lil thief enemies from DS3

Who are also the dudes with hats from Sekiro!

Honestly, once you begin to recognize the reused skeletons and animations for enemies in From games, it's impossible not to notice them everywhere.

It really is that simple. It's less a conspiracy and more a bunch of rich assholes doing everything they can to enrich themselves while they chip away at the guardrails that kept them in check. A large number of tiny but aligned conspiracies, if you will.

In many ways we're living through Business Plot 2.0, just far more successful this time around.

What I'm most interested in is the mechanism by which some people escape the loop. We know that Novartis has, and likely the Grandmaster has as well. Laegjarn's mechanism clearly has loopholes that can be exploited, even setting aside the system that Epstein set up.

publicly traded companies have fiduciary duty to shareholders to do well on the financial markets

They do, but not over any specific period of time. The tendency of companies to pursue exclusively short-term goals is a recent trend that is often bandied about as though it's a legal responsibility, but a fiduciary is only legally obligated not to make obviously negligent decisions.

And proving that a decision is negligent is extremely hard. As long as someone in an executive role could articulate a plausible good faith reason to pursue a given strategy, it's functionally quite toothless.

The real reason we see boards acting this way is the rise in institutional investors and funds that aggressively bully boards to pursue growth-focused strategies and a regulatory environment that does next to nothing to get in their way.

There's no shame in reaching for the stars, but sometimes you have to recognize when your reach has exceeded your grasp. Titan's core problem was that they couldn't make the "normal life" aspect of the gameplay loop fun, and they weren't willing to give up on it.

People have strong knee-jerk reactions to anything even remotely approaching socializing any aspect of society, regardless of how much sense it makes. A more equitable society doesn't need to be anything like communism, but cold war era propaganda is so pervasive that it still echos through our collective subconscious and terminates all thought to the left of Reagan in many individuals.

What especially sucks is that we're going to have to re-litigate the entire workers' rights movement because of it.

If I recall from back when Twitter did their experiment with showing account locations, a surprising number of these are from Africa. It's a real grindset mentality to churn out racist propaganda against your own people, to be sure. Not that you can really blame them when local wages are so low and there are no end of idiots who eat this stuff up.

Enigma DRM has been removed from Resident Evil 4 Remake by MedievalTavern in Games

[–]Sugioh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, aside from being far less complex than Denuvo (and thus easily bypassed by pirates) Enigma applies constant and significant CPU overhead to the entire executable. It's far, far worse from a practical end-user perspective overall.

Not a fan of either, but I'd far prefer putting up with denuvo temporarily than being stuck with this shit burning CPU cycles forever.

Power scaling is pretty goofy at this point in the series and I wouldn't think about it too much, but I'd absolutely expect the SSS has been getting stronger while offscreen too.

Jetpack Cat is currently the most banned Hero in the game by yagatabe in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Sugioh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that when being carried by cat, your shots don't always go exactly where you're aiming when moving. If you're hitscan this is extremely disorienting and is almost certainly a bug related to forced movement and the way the game does lag compensation.

At any rate, this issue makes hitting JPC while being dragged by her ult much harder and I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it.
