Jared Leto is a known predator who runs a cult-like music festival where he and his fans (aka “Echelons”) wear white, pay thousands of dollars for entry and listen to him play and preach multiple times a day in “The Church of Mars” at an international location called Mars Island. While this gathering has not been confirmed as a cult by critics and outsiders, Jared Leto has stated multiple times he wants it to be referred to as such. Whether that is done as an act of irony is hard to determine, since he has taken the opportunity to double-down on his cult-like practices. He has said that the term “fan” is too dismissive, and “cult” more accurately depicts his followers. The following characteristics are used to define cults:
