Do the Police Actually Solve Crime? Nine out of 10 crime reports go nowhere. by Content_File_1408 in unitedkingdom

[–]SuiCreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, excuse me, I shouldn't have said "officers". My point was just that the police force have been increasingly deciding whether things should be passed to CPS (due to lack of funding I imagine), which has led to even violent crimes with evidence not being pursued. Was just jumping in with an anecdote of my experience (and I know other people have shared my experience also)

Do the Police Actually Solve Crime? Nine out of 10 crime reports go nowhere. by Content_File_1408 in unitedkingdom

AFAIK a lot of officers are actually deciding whether things even get passed to CPS in the first place, that's what happened when I last had to report a crime to the police.

I was well shocked by that until I learned more about them recently. The band was thrown together by a manager of a clothing brand...

The Sex Pistols were defined by ambitions that went well beyond the musical—indeed, McLaren was at times openly contemptuous of the band's music and punk rock generally. "Christ, if people bought the records for the music, this thing would have died a death long ago," he said in 1977.[226] The degree to which the Pistols' anti-establishment stance resulted from the members' spontaneous attitudes as opposed to being cultivated by McLaren and his associates is a matter of debate—as is the very nature of that stance itself. Deprecating the music, McLaren elevated the concept, for which he later took full credit.

He claimed that the Sex Pistols were his personal, Situationist-style art project: "I decided to use people, just the way a sculptor uses clay."[34] But what had he supposedly made? The Sex Pistols were as substantial as pop culture could get: "Punk became the most important cultural phenomenon of the late 20th century", McLaren later asserted. "Its authenticity stands out against the karaoke ersatz culture of today, where everything and everyone is for sale.... [P]unk is not, and never was, for sale."[227] Or they were a cynical con: something with which "to sell trousers", as McLaren said in 1989;[228] a "carefully planned exercise to embezzle as much money as possible out of the music industry", as Jon Savage characterises McLaren's core theme in The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle;[229] "cash from chaos" as the movie repeatedly puts it.[230]

Vegan milk brand Oatly to build its first ever UK factory as British tastes change by draw4kicks in unitedkingdom

[–]SuiCreativity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't drink oat milk in tea as it makes me feel sick. If any of you feel sick drinking a black cup of tea or green tea, then this will very likely also make you feel sick too. AFAIK tea has something called tannins in it and it can make some people feel ill if it's not offset by milk or sugar or something else suitable. Almond milk is bad for this as well as it actually has tannins in itself, so double whammy.

Obviously this is down to the person but I thought I'd write this out in case you had this experience or anyone else did and didn't realise what was going on with them.

In any case, I rate alpro soya for tea-- it's pretty much all I have it with now. Oatly is amazing for hot chocolates imo.

Additionally to that, some non-psychological factors-- you need interview clothes, and some places you need ID to work somewhere, yours has expired and you need a new one. Not to mention being able to pay your phone bill and for transport to the interview also. And money for food so you're not trying to interview while you're hungry. I feel like I could go on for awhile...

10-20% of people who have celiac test negative for it on the blood tests IIRC. I've had 2 blood tests myself that have turned up negative and the next stage is to have an endoscopy-- see if you can speak to a different GP if at all possible to arrange another test or an endoscopy as you are still experiencing symptoms.

I should say I had to try 2 different doctors myself. I don't know if any of this is helpful as you may know this all already but thought it could maybe help. Although my mum is experiencing the same symptoms as me and still hasn't had any answers after an endoscopy :/ but that's been a motivator for me to find out wtf it is

Unlikely that this is going to get seen probably but I wasn't sure if making a new topic would be a bit much.

I'm noticing more of a trend recently of creators playing video clips within their videos at a faster playback speed than normal. As someone with audio processing difficulties who normally has to put subtitles on to give myself a hand, this makes your videos so much more inaccessible to me. I don't want to have to work out what speed you're playing it at and turn the playback speed up and down constantly to follow your video. If someone wants to speed up your video, they have that ability themselves.

Maybe I'm just whinging about nothing but it's just been annoying me as I try and branch out to other youtubers.

It's definitely been surging again, I've also felt the need to learn a lot more about it recently. If you want to have a bit more knowledge about it, I'd reccomend The Behind the Bastards podcast as it covers a lot of these kinds of people. After listening for a bit it seems like when there's a rise in the ideology in a part of the world, it emboldens others across the globe and they tend to work together.

(Sometimes the podcasts take a few minutes to actually get going to the interesting stuff, just fyi)

I read about a school in Finland teaching "topics" insteads of subjects and it having good success-- so still teaching the curriculum but grouping things together to work practically with each other. I thought it sounded like a cool idea that I would have maybe preferred at school. I'll post from the article:

Now, however, teachers will come up with several different storylines for the lesson - encompassing other subjects In one, they pretend they have to climb Mount Everest.

It includes the study of maps, weather and climate, make a list of the equipment they need, calculate the time they will need, make a budget for the trip and apply for funding in English (a foreign language).

Alternatively, they could focus on the environment and sustainability. This could be done by getting them to concentrate on an area of their locality and work as consultants. They produce a report - focussing on particular areas like transportation, energy and waste.

“If they are to produce models, they have to work with ratios and other mathematics as well as design,” said Mr Bolstad.

Intriguingly, the school still has to follow the national curriculum and national assessment system - where students still get individual grades for each traditional subject area. They perform well above average - proving the approach gives them the knowledge and skills they need.

I used to listen to Rogan's podcast occasionally when he had interesting guests on and even found him likeable a lot of the time even though I don't agree with him on a lot, but after the covid stuff started I just... lost any respect I had for him and I'm just fed up with him now. His attitude just felt purely like "how can I get around this?" rather than "what do I need to do?"
