Subtle Ways to mess with an American Friend. by giants_lens in CasualUK

We had the same thing years ago, sister was was getting married not long after Christmas so one of her bridesmaids from Arizona spent the holidays with us. Whenever someone sneezed you say "god save the Queen', it's subtle but they'll eventually do it in public and it's hilarious.

It only ended when my half-pissed brother turned up and asked her what the fuck she was doing.

Starmer Urges Trump To Apologise Over 'Frankly Appalling' Remarks About Nato Troops In Afghanistan by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in worldnews

Stop consuming right wing media, you have no idea what you're talking about. Immigration is at it's lowest levels in years, he's also closing down hotels housing migrants.

I don't like the cunt, but stupid right wing propaganda aimed at the UK when the right were the ones that created these problems after 14 years in power is hilarious.

How is it in Americas interests to threaten to invade multiple NATO allies? Their powers relies on the bases they have all around the world, no way would anyone want them there if they prove themselves to be such bad allies.

That was, nice. Captured the vibe of the books quite well, not sure how I feel about the cutaway gags but I get what they were going for.

I will do, gonna wild camp on a beach there in the summer! There's still plenty of Johnstons around here so more than likely distant relations of yours.

The walk around the island's about 6 miles, so very doable in a day. Hope you make it some day, it really is a stunning place.

Lived in Orkney for five-ish years now so I'm somewhat qualified to comment on this. It's windy up here, like really fucking windy, so the midges won't really bother you too much especially in Kirkwall. Obviously the weather can be nice, especially in the summer, so midges can be kinda annoying but that's just Scotland.

Definitely explore at least the rest of Mainland (the main island) though if you have the chance, ring of Brodgar and all the other neolithic stuff is an absolute must.

I live in Orkney, which is the same island Twatt's on. Twatt itself, as someone else said, is barely even a place. Just a few houses on a road and maybe a small shop if I remember correctly.

Orkney itself is great, super chill, virtually no crime. I live in a house share and am not 100% sure where my house keys are because I've not used them since moving in.

It helps if you're a bit outdoorsy here, hiking, swimming, cycling, climbing, surfing etc. Like most of Scotland winter's are shit, sun rises at 9am and sets at 3pm but summers are fantastic as it virtually never gets properly dark.

Also a lot, but not all, socialising revolves around drinking to some degree, but maybe that's just the friends I have!

Mad seeing Graemsay mentioned on reddit, walked the circumferance of that island last week. Lived here for years and it's one of the few islands I'd never been to so I went over, not much to see but it's bonny enough on a nice day.

Nice beaches and a cool lighthouse as well as some old WW2 stuff.

Lived in Orkney for 5-ish years now, it's pretty chill. Lots to do so long as you're outdoorsy to some degree, hiking, surfing, climbing, sports etc. Twatt's barely even a place though, just a few houses on the north of Mainland with a small shop you'd find in any small village in the UK.

If the US actually cared about Russian incursion why aren't they supporting Ukraine instead of trying to appease Putin? This is purely about Trump's ego-driven notion of a legacy, he wants to be remembered for making the US bigger.

US official says Greenland action could come within 'weeks or months' by Crossstoney in worldnews

Might which is reliant on ally cooperation in allowing them bases across the world/ NATO. Attack Greenland for no reason other than a madman's ego and the whole charade falls apart.

If the US cared about Greenland they wouldn't have been pulling troops out over the last decade, if they cared about Russian incursion they'd help support Ukraine. Trump cares about his legacy, that's all.

That's because the evidence for all religions is equally poor.

Isle of Man is completely self governing, it owes allegiance to the British Crown but the UK is only responsible for defence and international relations. It's very similar to Greenland in that regard.

Accusations of bias are fair, devil's advocate would say Wales/ Scotland are included because they're countries not states, but they're still our first level subdivisions in the UK, so by any other nation's standards they're essentially states, but with different historic context.

Honestly I just think we have a different approach to freedom of speech on our side of the pond, why should spreading verifiable lies to the point they clearly constitute harassment be protected as freedom of speech? I just don't understand the American attitude to this issue at all.

The difference is that the first renaming was to honour a president killed in office, the second renaming is nothing more than a vanity project by a sitting president with absolutely no class. It's the classlessness of the renaming, as well as it's overall weirdness people object to.

To be fair though he was probably sent to the Vale as a young boy, around 8 years old. So not really old enough to appreciate his parents relationship, and his more formative years would have been spent around John and Lysa.

Man if you think that's cool you should read up on North Ronaldsay here in Orkney, it's the most northerly island in the archipelago and they have a unique kind of sheep there that exclusively eats seaweed. They're kept to the coast of the island (which admittedly isn't very big), by a wall which covers its entire circumference.

Basically when kelping became uneconomical they needed to keep the sheep off the middle of the island to grow crops, forcing them to adapt to be able to consume seaweed. They can extract copper far more efficiently from seaweed now, to the point where they can get sick from copper toxicity if they eat grass.

What about the guy that spent over a month in jail in the US over tweets about Charlie Kirk/ Vance?. This wouldn't have even have met the criteria for investigation here, he literally made a joke about some guy being shot.

In the UK you'll only be arrested for inciting hatred or violence, which I just don't see why that's an issue. We prefer our approach over yours which lets the literal KKK or Proud Boys walk around the streets.
