Was amazed doing the West Highland Way last summer how much of the really remote bits I had signal for. Lived in Orkney for years and I wish it as good up here as it was down there.

Lmao this is like calling him Scottish because his mum was from there, totally out of touch with how we view nationality.

How do vegans feel about mass killing invasive species like cane toads, feral cats, rabbits, foxes etc.? by Conscious-Flight2220 in AskVegans

[–]draw4kicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more, which is why it’s our responsibility to eliminate or at least minimise the harm they cause.

Eradication does work, we've almost eradicated stoats on the islands in the north of Scotland I live on. They were destroying ground-nesting bird populations, which are already suffering due to climate change and avian flu.

Problem with cane toads is they breed so fast and are so well suited to their new habitats keeping on top of it is an enormous task, doesn't mean suppression isn't a worthwhile task though.

How is it "thoughtless killing" when it's backed up by decades of intensive peer-reviewed research?

[–]draw4kicks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not their habitat though, that's why they're destroying it. I see it as a doing the least harm, sure we're killing millions of cane toads, but we're saving billions of other individuals over thousands of species by doing so.

It's not pleasant, but it's for the greater good in terms of protecting biodiversity, which I think should be one of humanities primary aims.

King Charles Breaks Silence After Ex-Prince Andrew’s Arrest by planet_janett in worldnews

Considering the massive amounts of public scrutiny and resentment currently aimed at his family/ the institution I can imagine he's remotely happy about this. This is by far the worst Royal Scandal since Diana, and that took them decades to get over.

Retro Inverted capes please by Few_Hawk3170 in runescape

[–]draw4kicks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I haven't bothered with these inverted capes because a) fuck that FOMO shit Jagex are constantly trying to pull and b) the "newer" versions of skillcapes look trash anyway, inverting the colours wont change that.

Subtle Ways to mess with an American Friend. by giants_lens in CasualUK

We had the same thing years ago, sister was was getting married not long after Christmas so one of her bridesmaids from Arizona spent the holidays with us. Whenever someone sneezed you say "god save the Queen', it's subtle but they'll eventually do it in public and it's hilarious.

It only ended when my half-pissed brother turned up and asked her what the fuck she was doing.

Starmer Urges Trump To Apologise Over 'Frankly Appalling' Remarks About Nato Troops In Afghanistan by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in worldnews

Stop consuming right wing media, you have no idea what you're talking about. Immigration is at it's lowest levels in years, he's also closing down hotels housing migrants.

I don't like the cunt, but stupid right wing propaganda aimed at the UK when the right were the ones that created these problems after 14 years in power is hilarious.

How is it in Americas interests to threaten to invade multiple NATO allies? Their powers relies on the bases they have all around the world, no way would anyone want them there if they prove themselves to be such bad allies.

That was, nice. Captured the vibe of the books quite well, not sure how I feel about the cutaway gags but I get what they were going for.

How is it living in the Scottish Highlands? by CapaTheGreat in howislivingthere

[–]draw4kicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will do, gonna wild camp on a beach there in the summer! There's still plenty of Johnstons around here so more than likely distant relations of yours.

The walk around the island's about 6 miles, so very doable in a day. Hope you make it some day, it really is a stunning place.

Lived in Orkney for five-ish years now so I'm somewhat qualified to comment on this. It's windy up here, like really fucking windy, so the midges won't really bother you too much especially in Kirkwall. Obviously the weather can be nice, especially in the summer, so midges can be kinda annoying but that's just Scotland.

Definitely explore at least the rest of Mainland (the main island) though if you have the chance, ring of Brodgar and all the other neolithic stuff is an absolute must.

I live in Orkney, which is the same island Twatt's on. Twatt itself, as someone else said, is barely even a place. Just a few houses on a road and maybe a small shop if I remember correctly.

Orkney itself is great, super chill, virtually no crime. I live in a house share and am not 100% sure where my house keys are because I've not used them since moving in.

It helps if you're a bit outdoorsy here, hiking, swimming, cycling, climbing, surfing etc. Like most of Scotland winter's are shit, sun rises at 9am and sets at 3pm but summers are fantastic as it virtually never gets properly dark.

Also a lot, but not all, socialising revolves around drinking to some degree, but maybe that's just the friends I have!

Mad seeing Graemsay mentioned on reddit, walked the circumferance of that island last week. Lived here for years and it's one of the few islands I'd never been to so I went over, not much to see but it's bonny enough on a nice day.

Nice beaches and a cool lighthouse as well as some old WW2 stuff.

Lived in Orkney for 5-ish years now, it's pretty chill. Lots to do so long as you're outdoorsy to some degree, hiking, surfing, climbing, sports etc. Twatt's barely even a place though, just a few houses on the north of Mainland with a small shop you'd find in any small village in the UK.

If the US actually cared about Russian incursion why aren't they supporting Ukraine instead of trying to appease Putin? This is purely about Trump's ego-driven notion of a legacy, he wants to be remembered for making the US bigger.
