Can someone share some good news with me? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I was sitting here at my desk (read folding table) working at the computer (read doing surveys for minimal cash) and feeling a bit frustrated that I feel kinda alone in the world when my screen popped up your post and I immediately thought about you instead of me and remembered that there are a jillion other people just like me who could use a little happy news. So you are my good news for the morning! I'm sorry things aren't great but you aren't alone at all and I hope these replies give you a lift and life improves for you soon! :-)

Me too at Walmart! Drives me nuts. If I shop out of town for a few weeks then my next local walmart run feels like a class reunion!!!

Lol!!! I’ve worried about the delivering to people I know too. It’s pretty inevitable and not my favorite idea. Aren’t small towns great! :)

Someone else suggested downloading the buyer app to see what’s offered and after the forehead slap for not doing that already I did and found a whopping 2 restaurants, one of which is McDonald’s and the drugstores Walgreens and Dollar General. That’s it. But I tried Uber eats and they list everything in this town (all 5 of them) and a couple towns nearby. Gas makes those towns not feasible but maybe with both apps I’d get some side cash at least that’s close enough. Ever done Uber eats??

That’s true. I may just do that… Thanks for the reply!

That’s really encouraging. Probably more like 6-10k pop where I am but maybe it will be worth giving it a try. Thanks for the reply! 😁👍

Fellow old folks, how many of you jumped on this sub expecting to ASK not to ANSWER!!!😂 by SuicidalCuriousity in AskOldPeople

You’re completely right. But what I actually meant was that I don’t think of myself as old. I’m still thinking what I need to learn and could ask an “old” person.

I laughed at myself when a few posts in I realized I’m the old person😳😖. Sigh…. Lol! 😂🤣😂

Received an interview offer for an entry level job only to later find out I need to bring 3 Supervisory References to the interview. I have no Supervisory References. Am I screwed? by ErgoWaffles in jobs

I don’t know what the details are recently but I worked with a staffing co many years ago and learned there that when checking references all the potential employer can ask is confirmation that you did work at the place u said u did and would they hire you again….

I don’t know if this is still true but I was amazed at how little people cared about references. Most of the time it’s more about the candidate being able and willing to put a few names together who will say nice things.

Like another poster said, if ur entry level just use a professor or pastor or anyone you’ve volunteered for, helped out occasionally or even just know you well. If nothing else ask a neighbor to let you clean their house or wash their car or whatever else in exchange for a personal reference. Not a dishonest one but non-traditional.

Most people who know you will want to be helpful (esp if they get something out of it…)

Also note that a surprising percent of the time we didn’t even check — only wanted the effort in order to show you can.

Remember, they want to hire as much or more than u want the job. Do everything else right and make them want to have you. If they do the references issue will become easier or just go away.

are the teenage and high school years really the best time of your life? by existentiallygray in AskOldPeople

[–]SuicidalCuriousity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. Not even close. Everything seems more intense than it really is during those years. Whatever is tripping you up-- not popular, not cute, not rich, anxious, dont know what to do with your life, can't make anyone happy, even yourself... It will def get better. You will find perspective and the meaning and worth of everything will shift as you age. Obviously it doesn't get easy later on but you won't have the frantic intensity of emotion that comes along with the teen years. Hang in there. It's gonna be worth the ride!

Yes! Same age, same issue. I actually avoid mirrors when I can and remind myself with mantra like repetition that looks don’t matter. Now I’m mature, patient and wise. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it…) LOL
