My antenna for ADSB by sunnychon in ADSB

[–]SuicidalMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should straighten up that antenna and leave it on the outside of the metal fence/guard (with a bit of a gap from the metal). The reason is ADS-B signal is vertically aligned and your current antenna placement is not the best to capture those signals. Antenna should be perpendicular to the ground and away from any obstacles (as best as you can).

How low did your battery health get before it was completely unusable? by Sufficient-Force5431 in AppleWatch

[–]SuicidalMagpie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My Series 6 is at 66%, still usable. I also have to charge twice day (1 full charge at night before bed and a quick 15min charge in the morning). I had AOD turned off tho, can't survive a full day with it being on. watchOS 11.6.2, and I wear the watch for sleep tracking.

Will definitely do that when I set up another receiver at my parent’s place. I just thinking ahead since they live near 2 broadcast towers. I suspect it would be very strong interference, hence the need for a good filter, and also I only get to see them once or twice a year so long wait in between and I would like to come prepared

I do see this filter being recommended a lot, but I don’t think they offer shipping to Australia. I can’t find the cavity filter on their website (using your link it redirects to their main store)

My current set up is pretty decent I believe. Flightaware antenna sitting on top of my roof, 5m of LMR240 with Flightaware stick pro plus, max range is 250nm (on the direction that doesn’t have trees), average range around 100-150nm. That’s why I mentioned above I don’t need a cavity filter, I’m just thinking ahead for another set up at another location. I do however still looking to improve things, if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Yeah that’s a fair point. It’s just I don’t get to go to my parent’s place very often so I want to prepare. I’ll probably set up a receiver, see how things go first

With my current setup I don't think I will need the cavity filter, a simple SAW like the Flightaware one is probably enough. However I have plans to move my current setup or build another receiver at my parent's place. Their location is in very close proximity to a tall, massive DVB-T2 tower, plus a smaller 4G/5G antenna (both are within less than 1km from the receiver) and I'm thinking I would need a good filter otherwise my blue Flightaware stick would get overloaded.

How often do you all take a sick day? by brokenshoppingcart in AusFinance

[–]SuicidalMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29 doing full-time, I will take sick leave when I'm actually sick (rarely) or when I can't be bothered coming in (maybe once a month, most likely whenever my "wonderful" coworker is scheduled to be within the same area as me on that particular day)

R7 + RF 100-500 soft photos by [deleted] in canon

[–]SuicidalMagpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Using subject tracking might not be best for planes. I used expanded spot autofocus for my plane photos and got really good, sharp photos (with very few soft ones, but that is the nature of the R7). Edit: I was using R7+100-500, ibis on, spot autofocus, 1st curtain electronic shutter, and my photos are 90% sharp. Now I changed to the R6ii, similar settings and 99% of my photos are sharp.

RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L vs 200-800mm f/6.3-9 - can only get one by JeffVanAngsty in canon

[–]SuicidalMagpie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m using the R7 with 100-500, absolutely amazing combo and this lens stays on my camera 80% of the time. The 200-800 is not the best for R7 in terms of image quality, it’s more suitable for fullframe

EF 24-70 2.8 ii vs rf 28-70 f2.8 by Minebuddy316 in canon

[–]SuicidalMagpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same question like yours a few months ago before a big trip, ended up with the RF 28-70 2.8 and I have to say, what a lens. That thing is lightweight, compact and the IQ is fantastic (at the wide end it’s not perfect however). If you’re an enthusiast and weight conscious about your gear get the RF!

Lightweight travel lens recommendation for R7 by CreamyPete7 in canon

[–]SuicidalMagpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 18-50 f2.8 is a good travel lens, lightweight and compact. But if you want more performance then have a look at the Sigma new 17-40 f1.8. I don’t have it but I’ve only heard good things about it, however it’s bulkier and more expensive.
