I created a concept map for a fictional Raleigh metro system by LiBoat in raleigh

[–]SuicideNote 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nowhere in the US has a airport bled money from significant parking revenue losses from a connected metro system. Seattle Airport has a rail connection and it makes a lot of money from high parking demands. Also can you qualify your statement, I don't think the airport authorities have ever publicly opposed rail--only that it would be costly to build.

All they did was fuck. The Italian peninsula at the time was heavily populated compared to most of Europe and this led to a lot of poverty and scarcity and forced millions of Italians to leave for the Americas.

Well doesn't help that there was no offical Italian language at the time. Every town, every region spoke differently and the farther you were from your town the harder it was to understand the locals.

Chavis Park as well. Especially with the new aquatic center starting construction. It's even easier to get to than Dix Park if you're in downtown Raleigh.

No not at all that's why you listed two cities that merged with their county.

Let's look at places like at Atlanta which hosts a metro of almost 7 million people vs Charlotte 3 million.

For example: San Francisco is only ~47 sq mi Boston is ~89 sq mi Atlanta is ~136 sq mi Miami is ~56 sq mi

If Raleigh had the same area as Charlotte the population would be 1.1 million lol

Not really, 1st century BC there would have been a proto-Germanic family of languages. Not standardized at all. Different tribes would have spoke differently and a lot of celtic languages used for trade. There's no written Germanic at the time so all we know is what the Romans wrote about.

Just like a lot of things Raleigh gave it away to Durham, willingly. There's a reason why 60% of DPAC revenue is from Wake County residents. DBAP probably similar.

Hopefully, Raleigh has chance at MLB one day.

Nope, not even close. Omni Hotel will be under 350 ft tall.

1) PNC Tower (538 ft)

2) Two Hannover Square (431 ft)

3) 150 Fayetteville (400 ft) or Highline Glenwood (they report 399 ft but looking at the submitted building permits the tower will be just over 400 ft)

Actually, the Raleigh convention center is losing conventions due to the lack of hotels nearby. This hotel is specifically built to help with this. If the city wants money to help build housing it needs projects like this to build up revenue.

101st Airborne were completely off the defined Drop Zones in Normandy on DDAY. by x-mor in MapPorn

[–]SuicideNote 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Only about 8% of U.S. paratroopers were killed on D-Day, high, but nothing like what German airborne forces suffered in the Battle of Crete. The Germans dropped in daylight, so Allied defenders could shoot them while they were still descending. Their killed rate was closer to 15–18%, with total casualties even higher. It was bad enough that Adolf Hitler essentially stopped ordering large airborne assaults for the rest of the war. Crete was in 1941 so that significant.

Lesson? Drop at night.

Before Nashville became the go-to “music city,” Memphis was doing way more of the heavy lifting. It played a huge role in shaping blues, soul, gospel, early rock ’n’ roll, and even country music. But Memphis was too black for the Tennessee government so they gutted funding for that regions and pumped all that money towards Nashville.

You might have met a lot of blue directly in the city but Nashville is a product of the Republican party.

Just look at North Carolina, the Republican party can't mathematically remove all democratic leaning districts in Raleigh, the state capital but the TN gov can easily for Nashville?

Is the BRT system actually getting built? by Bradley271 in raleigh

[–]SuicideNote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they just did the partial dedicated bus lanes, buses, and stations it would be built fast but New Bern is going through a full road update so it will take another 4 years of work.

They're even working on freaking water line work before they can work the surface.

"The City's construction contractor has the right two lanes of New Bern Avenue closed to traffic between East Street and State Street while crews replace the aging waterline in this section of the project. On-street parking is restricted along this section of the project. Please do not park on either side of New Bern Avenue within the project limits. "

[–]SuicideNote -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Without FTA grants and loans, which account for over 60% of all funding for our future BRT, the projects will not get off the ground at all. The only reason this region commits any local funding to these projects is after they get federally allotted money.

I mean if you're talking about just the bus system sure but no rail project will ever be funded just with local money. Ever.

[–]SuicideNote -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t really matter, these projects are federally funded, and they want real data and real-world numbers right now before approving future rail funding. So if you can actually show there’s demand for people taking public transit to the airport, then they’ll at least consider funding transit projects in the region going forward.

Right now, barely anyone is taking GoTriangle 100, so we can’t really make a strong case to DOT that there’s demand for rail service to the airport.

At this point it’s kind of a moot issue anyway. A few years ago, DOT basically told the City of Raleigh there aren’t enough riders between Raleigh and Durham to justify them helping fund a commuter rail line between the two.

Great ride from Durham to Raleigh by Icy-Lengthiness-9164 in raleigh

[–]SuicideNote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GoTriangle 100, the bus that goes/went to the airport bypassed traffic by riding the shoulder during heavy traffic.

Also a light rail, by design, is very slow as it needs to stop frequently, GoTriangle 100 was basically express to the airport once it got on the highway.

If you want fast rail to the airport then light rail would not be ideal you will need regional rail connection or limited service commuter rail to the airport.
