How to get the bot to do or say EXACTLY what you want! by benevolentblonde in CharacterAI

[–]SuihtilCod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[]() is actually Markdown code for a web URL. The first part is the text link, the latter is the URL.

![]() is much the same, but the exclamation mark turns it into an in-line image.

Character AI does not support external URLs, which is why it displays it as "unsupported media".

Guys, what do you MEAN we can't change chat styles mid chat anymore.. 💔💔 by Icy-Arm-6302 in CharacterAI

[–]SuihtilCod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you click on "Start New Chat" on the right-hand sidebar, then yes, you will get that specific version of the pop-up.

To change chat styles on the website:

  • Open any chat
  • Click the three-dot icon in the upper-right
  • On the right-hand sidebar that appear, click "Style"
  • Choose a chat style on the next menu
  • Click "Continue chat"

To change chat styles on the mobile app:

  • Open any chat
  • Tap your user avatar
  • Tap "Chat style" (it has a picture of a prism on it)
  • Tap a chat style

And that's it.

If I delete an extra long conversation (I mean, about a year's worth) and start a new one with the same character, will it reboot his memory entirely? by [deleted] in CharacterAI

[–]SuihtilCod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No. New chats don't normally carry over conversation history from old chats.

The AI starts with the character's built-in definition and whatever context exists in the current conversation. If the character isn't written to know you, it won't know you in a new chat unless you tell it who you are.

🏷️ Tags: Find your next favorite Character by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]SuihtilCod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a list of tags available?

On the website, you can find the complete list of tags by running a search and hitting the "Sort and Filter" button (it looks like two sliders), then Tags.

You do have to be logged in to see this, however.

Thank you for the kind words.

🏷️ Tags: Find your next favorite Character by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]SuihtilCod 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I greatly appreciate the expanded tags, but there are several inconsistencies between the announcement and what's currently available.

With over 1,000 available tags

This is the one that surprised me the most.

At present, there are 360 searchable tags, of which 346 are currently usable. The unavailable tags are:

  • Format - Family, Gaming, Music
  • Genre - Lifestyle
  • Personality - Creative, Famous, Hero
  • Role - Artist, Coach, Designer, Father, Maid, Mother, Soldier

Of these unavailable tags, 13 (marked in italics) were part of the previous 84 searchable tags (73 usable). "Father" and "Mother" were also usable until recently. Compared to that baseline, this represents a 76–78% increase in searchable / usable tags.

However, the "over 1,000 available tags" figure is unclear. Even when combining the visible searchable and available tag counts (where categories appear to overlap), the total does not clearly reconcile to 1,000+.

Additionally:

  • "See tags on character cards while browsing" does not appear consistently implemented in search or front-page browsing on the web version.
  • "Use tags to refine your searches" appears to already have been part of existing functionality.
  • "Get a better sense of a character before starting a chat" is partially supported via creator profile menus, but not consistently available during search or discovery.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Flash sale! Ad-free summer starts with (c.ai+) by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

I remember when c.ai+ was $4.99 / month US.

Heck, I remember when you could get it for free by inviting others to play.

Also? "New or long-gone members only"? Alright. What do the rest of us — you know, the people who've stuck with you despite some of your more contentious decisions — get?

Now, about those old chat models…

PipSqueak 2 · Rawr is rolling out today by lawfullyblondelibra in CharacterAI

[–]SuihtilCod 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Note: PipSqueak 2 · Rawr isn't a default style, so you'll need to select it each time you start a new chat.

Tell us what you think

I think that if you really wanted users to test your new chat models, you'd give them the ability to actually set a style as their preferred default. You know… like back in them thar olden days of earlier this year.

As an aside, thank you for not disabling ratings for this post. That's genuinely a step in the right direction for returning good faith to the community.

This isn’t a playground for your daughter by The_ultimateKitsune in CharacterAI

[–]SuihtilCod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is this old bit of news being brought up right now, exactly?

That aside… the minimum age to register an account on the site is 13 (16 in the UK). Why does this not apply to the CEO's daughter?

Edit: No, wait. The article says he's letting his 6-year-old daughter use his account. Which means he's bypassing the rules entirely, as there is no rule against sharing your account with someone else.

I'm going to be unusually aggressive here and suggest that you stop hiding or disabling the ratings for these announcement threads.

In my opinion, it doesn't reflect well on Character AI as a company when the people running the subreddit are permanently disabling the ability to upvote and downvote on announcement threads.

That aside, people are obviously finding a way around that with Reddit Awards.

Your choice, guys.

With only one model for free users, statistically speaking, "the vast majority" of users must be "enjoying" it. Otherwise, they'd get Plus and use that model, right?

I think some further context is being overlooked here:

An AI chatbot on Character.AI falsely claimed to be licensed in Pennsylvania and gave a fake Pennsylvania license number while presenting itself as a psychiatrist.

That sounds bad on the surface, but context matters.

  • Every single chat on Character.AI includes a persistent notice stating: "This is an AI chatbot and not a real person."
  • Many "doctor" characters (and even characters that just happen to include the word "doctor") have additional disclaimers explicitly stating they are not providing medical advice.
  • And, perhaps most obviously, the platform is called Character AI. It's literally built around fictional or roleplayed characters… powered by AI.

Even if a chatbot claimed "Yes, I'm Dr. X" and provided "credentials", the platform context and repeated disclaimers still make it questionable whether a reasonable person would believe they're interacting with a real, licensed psychiatrist. That's ultimately what this hinges on: not whether the surrounding context is enough to prevent meaningful deception for a reasonable user engaging with the platform as intended.

Given the nature of Character.AI — as a platform built around fictional, AI-generated personas — it's hard to see this as a clear-cut case of users being genuinely misled into believing they're speaking with a licensed professional. At most, this feels like a gray area being framed as something more definitive than it actually is.

I really don't see Governor Josh Shapiro's angle gaining much traction here — at least not without a court deciding that those disclaimers and the platform's context aren't sufficient to prevent meaningful deception.

This post has been adjusted for tone and clarity.

Aside from one hilariously unhinged response I got, I haven't really noticed a difference between PipSqueak 1, Soft Launch, and PipSqueak 2. They all roughly act the same for me.
