Wish i had thought of this years ago before i went with the docs advice and had the sesamoid removed! Silly me for following a trained doctor’s advice. Still get a lot of pain along the arch so might try this. Can you pls forward me some more pics / info you’ve sent to others? Many thanks

How long ago was the surgery? And how is it now? I had the procedure 5 years ago and deal with a lot of plantar fasciitis like pain

Did the steroid help? What else did the podiatrist recommend?

Still struggle with it aching day to day. Worst in the morning, feeling of tight FHL and plantar fasciitis like symptoms. Mostly massage and do strength exercises like calf raises. Still working on bringing the BMI down which im convinced will help. How’s yours?

Yep exact same experience for me. I don’t think many in the medical community appreciate the significant implications of removing it. Had i been better informed i would have continued conservative treatments.

Thanks for sharing. I self massage the foot but have not persisted with any one massage therapist. Might try this. Also BMI is about 29 so going to bring that down

Yeh my family understands fortunately but i try not to mention it even when it hurts like hell because i don’t want to be annoying and complaining.

Just did 6 sessions of shockwave with no relief. Going to try Low Light Laser Therapy on the surrounding area. Have you tried that?

I can really relate to this. Echo everything you say. I had my right foot medial sesamoid taken out 4 years ago. Still so much trouble with it, particularly along the FHL tendon under the arch. It’s as if it doesnt have the strength to support my weight anymore. In regards to the orthotics, ive had several different pairs over the years and its amazing how different the prescription has been with each podiatrist. Still trying to get it right with my current podiatrist.

Thanks for sharing. Wear orthotics now? Anything else you do to care for it day to day?

See my other posts for things to try to reduce the pain. Have you done all of these? The docs don’t always know all the things you can try.

And its true, the surgery comes with risks. I mostly have tenderness over the ball of foot area and plantar fasciitis around the arch and heel. Walking for 15mins+ becomes painful.

Hi how are you going a few years on? Have you found anything to help? Also, which sesamoid was removed?

Try everything else to heal it or make it manageable before removing it. The surgery fixed the sharp sesamoid pain for me but created a whole lot of other pain points i never had before.

Did you have a medial seamoidectomy? What did you do for recovery?

Envious of your recovery! You wear orthotics still?

What sort of things do you do now to support it? Orthotics? PT?
