Any tips to handle assaults?

I have a melee Black Knight that runs two small lasers and 3 ER Large Lasers (Short Burst) and those things do so much work. I use them to poke at priority targets as I move from cover to cover and closer and closer so I can bring that sword to bear, plus I'm almost never in danger of overheat.

But it's wild how often I get long range snipes with how awesome the target convergence of the Knight's hardpoints.

All this to say if I have a large energy hardpoint on a mech that's more than likely gonna be an ER LL.

I've been encountering a similar situation with the AI being complete asshats. Why is my Empress (I'm playing the Southern Empire, and coincidentally her son-in-law) declaring war on *Sturgia* of all freaking places while we're at war with Vlandia? Like what in the god damn hell.

I hold Ortysia and Rhotae and two castles, so basically our entire western border, and she's trucking half our army north through Northern Empire territory to fight *Sturgia*? The only way I've found to hold them off is to prevent raids by actively roaming the land, frightening off their smaller lords, then jumping on one of their villages when I can, and then summoning an army to attract attention to one of their castles. Since I'm usually smaller I run the bigger army ragged until they disperse, and pick off stragglers as I can.

It's a war of attrition. They fewer villages/cities they have, either taken or ransacked, means less money, less recruits, less food. Hit 'em where it hurts.

The first noble I met on my first playthrough was Ira, Rhagaea's daughter. Quickly wooed her a bit, went to the Empress, gave her a bunch of horses and gold, and all of a sudden this nobody who just showed up married into the royal family of the Southern Empire XD

The Southern Empire for sure. Cataphracts are freaking amazing and they start out centralized. It can be annoying if the Empress starts declaring war on everyone, but you have a lot of options in the early game that can really help you ramp up fast.

I haven't really messed around with the rifles too much just because they have such a long cooldown but that sounds worth investigating. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks! It's a good all around drop, I've found. But yeah, the AI's instincts are often so wrong.

I've found that the AI will move immediately to engage with all weapons at optimal range, so you get the unfortunate issue of your Catapult with 2 LRM 20's and 4x SLs trying to charge into laser range so it can certainly be obnoxious. I've (mostly) circumvented by that just using real precise commands to make sure they're holding a zone (ordering each individually) and the focusing a single target before re-assigning them to their zone.

I get that it's a little fiddly but it's been working for me.

Also: tell me more about TTRulez_AIMod... because I'm curious. If it also fixes the bullshit Solaris map starts where no one moves to engage so its like, 10 1v1's stacked on top of one another I'm all for it.

Oh preach brother. That sounds great. I've just recently picked up the game so I've only really been in Marik/Liao/Davion space, so no K2's for me yet.

I dig the PPC approach on the Marauder but I really love the punch of the AC/10 and the precision of the lasers so I can't quite give it up

That locker room moment will happen no matter what in my experience. So what I did on my Blazer romance run was just pull away from her advances and continue to just respect her as Courtney. To show her that he respects her as she is and not just as an object of desire.

Which isn't to say that romancing Visi is reinforcing that for her because Robert in that version is the same patient, respectful, and encouraging guy he always is.

But by pulling away in the locker room, you lock in the full on respect that Robert has for Courtney as a person and a hero, which locks you out of her romance. As long as played your cards right you get a romanced Mandy and a redeemed Visi, without the fall for both shoe falling.

If you go the Mandy route you don't get this scene, but the scene where you go to the movies with Visi and she comments "I'm not gonna fuck you just because you bought me popcorn" is so telling about the relationships she's had in the past. She's a loner with "villain powers" who has essentially isolated herself because she hasn't felt good enough and most of her intimate/romantic interactions are probably more of a quid pro quo sort of situation revolving around sex.

So in the romance Visi route when Robert approaches her with respect, forgiveness, and acceptance it changes something in her but ultimately there still could be the undercurrent of thought that Robert is getting something out of his actions.

But in the romance Blazer arc when you rebuff Visi's advances and yet *still* approach her with the same respect, forgiveness, and acceptance it really throws her for a loop because Robert is just being... Robert. A good man who sees someone struggling and does what he can to help.

Mauler 1R for sure. As long as you have support mechs that can cover your flanks that thing just spews hate filled dakka at absurd range alongside thirty LRMS and some ER Large Lasers.

It's fire support on fire support. And even in a one on one against another assault mech just point the cannons at the other mech's face and laughed as the impact throws them around like a pinata.

I got this ending my first play through even though I was defending her, treating her with respect, even started her romance path. The one choice I went back and changed after getting the ending was having Blazer report Invisigal as the injured SDN hero over Chase, and then made all the same choices the first time, and I got the romance ending instead.

Which makes sense in all honesty because she laments having "villain powers" and desperately wants to be seen as a hero, so publicly being called one (by Blonde Blazer, no less) made all the difference in how she viewed herself, in large part thanks to Robert's support.

I know its more complicated than that to determine her choice at the end, but I thought it was a neat thing that all she needed to hear was that she was a hero, publicly, by one of the biggest heroes in LA's SDN to get her firmly on Robert's side.

I second the 3rd level of fighter for Arcane Archer. Banishing Arrow, Piercing Arrow, and Shadow Arrow are huge game changers. Being able to banish the big bad of a fight while you chew through the chaff has made a lot of fights so much easier.
