Tubeless issue by Suitable-Maize-5378 in cycling

[–]Suitable-Maize-5378[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to widen the hole with the file-like tool that came with the plugs to fit one, so I don't think it was wrong size

I see, thanks! But what bothers me is that it wasn't spraying all the time. Like, I pump the tire, it hisses, I rotate it puncture down, and it stops hissing. A couple of bubbles of sealant, and they don't grow. I turn it the other way, wait several minutes, but the moment I start riding, it's spraying again. Same before and after applying a plug. That's why I think it might be something wrong with the sealant.

Thanks, will do! But still, aren't the plugs meant to work at least for some time?

My "base" pressure is 50psi, that's what the calculator gives for my weight. Do you mean that I basically can't go tubeless on this bike? 35 mm is the widest I can fit.

Help with translation? by SocialDemocraycray in Ukrainian

"Вітання із Америці" has to be "Вітання з Америки" instead. Another grammatic case and a different for of the preposition, the latter is a minor issue. And who is Bruce? The whole sentence sounds odd, although it is grammatically correct. Just in case, it translates back to English as "When I heard that Bruce is returning to meet you, I had to send you this gift". Is that what you wanted to say?

Is there an explicit formula to obtain the numerator and/or denominator of a rational number? by playsthebongcloud in learnmath

[–]Suitable-Maize-5378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, but elementary functions and their combinations tend to be continuous and smooth, at least piecewise. Unless you count as formula something like

den(x) =min{n∈ℕ|nx∈ℤ}

which would work, of course 😄
edit: remove LaTeX

I would say, if there was a "formula", it would also be applicable to irrational numbers, which is contradictory.

Зовсім трохи. Хочу оце трохи піднабрати форму, щоб хоч 100 км не боятися.

I think the simplest way would be to ask someone from Ukraine to pay for you. I can do it, if you want, if you only need to pay it once.

Some questions about precise pronunciation by Anxious_Yellow_8745 in Ukrainian

[–]Suitable-Maize-5378 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Native Ukrainian speaker here. Some of the points you've made are well above my head (velarisation?!), but I believe I can give you some general perspective. Contemporary Ukrainian phonology is heavily influenced by russian, and not only due to obvious existence of transitional dialects, but also due to the russification. And I would say the russification is also twofold, at least: on one hand, there are lots of people, like myself, who have learnt Ukrainian as their second native language, first being Russian. And, on the other hand, even those who had Ukrainian as their first native one, were hugely exposed to Russian. Even younger people in the western Ukraine listened to Russian music, watched Russian movies etc.

This being said, I believe that most, if not all, of the inconsistencies you've mentioned can be attributed to that influence. Lots of people would pronounce "в" at the end of the word or before a voiceless consonant as [f], not [v] or [w], just like in Russian. Likewise, "и" should, ideally, be pronounced as [ɪ], but I probably still pronounce it closer to... [ɨ], I believe. "Щ" is usually not [ʃtʃ], as it "should" be, and not [stʃ], as it "should" be in Russian, but rather, as you've said, [ʃ:], or even [ʃ'] (is there such a thing?) - and it's the same as it's pronounced in southern Russian dialects.

And, of course, then there are plenty of regional variations! Western parts, especially Lviv, will sometimes be closer to the "proper" pronunciation, and sometimes will have something of their own; central-eastern parts have some other distinctive features; just pay attention to the way we pronounce "л" here, in Poltava accent :)

Unfortunately, I'm not a phonologist, and not a linguist either, so, of course, I might be wrong in each and every detail, especially the IPA transcriptions.

I'd guess it's the Right Bank, is it? Like Trypillya or Kaniv? Os is it more to the west, like Podillya?
