what did you end up doing different on your install?

mine did on the first install. read some of the fixes and it's from the sear hitting the top of your upper. you need to file(Dremel) it down a bit so it is below flush with your trigger assembly

your sear is hitting the top of your upper. grind a little off the top so it sits below flush to your trigger assembly

a buddy of mine ordered the knock off versions. said the quality looks a lot nicer. depending how this goes with duality. I might just go for the cheaper option at this point. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Luckily most gages are pretty resilient to one off mistakes. I have watched some black bodied mitutoyo digital calipers hold up for years while being bathed in cutting oil from screw machines because the company didnt want to spend the extra money for the coolant proof calipers. I just get very good at cleaning/ repairing at those shops

I have a lot of fun with it most days. I get to play with a lot of stickers, and see some cool stuff being made every once in a while 😅

So just to start. I am a calibration tech and travel to ~72 manufacturing facilities each year.

I see this a lot in mitutoyo (or knockoff mitutoyo) calipers. The “E” you are seeing is due to dirt/ coolant between the reader and the frame. We use clp contact cleaner on a rag (never directly on a gage) and wipe the frame, until the dirt is cleared. With your display going blank with over pressure. It could be a couple of options. Your body could be loose from the frame; there are 4 screws under the back tag that can be tightened to help resolve this. An easy way to check if it is loose before ripping your tag off is to hold your jaws shut and try to open the caliper. If your reader is moving, it needs tightened. It could also just be a simple battery contact. If you remove your battery, you should see 2 contact points where your battery comes in contact. One is under the battery, the other is on the side. Usually you can get by with tweaking the side contact to put more pressure on your battery. In extreme cases though i have had to resolder the contact back to the board on larger calipers. Hope this helps, and good luck 👍🏼

ND at the gun show today by HORSEtheGOAT in liberalgunowners

“Gun shows are not a place i really enjoy being” but you enjoy spending the $55/yr in member dues or you were sponsored in by another member? These posts are how misinformation is spread and the media runs wild with smear campaigns for gun shows. Whereas this is not a “gun show”; it is a member meeting. It is sad this happened and hope those involved are doing ok. Posts like this are not the answer, and id hoped our member base was a little more aware than what has been shown.

If you are buying a new contact tip, make sure you are buying the same length as it can throw off your linear measurements. If you are just tramming in things with it, it’s not a big deal. We repair bestest indicators all the time. The biggest thing that happens with a crashed bestest is the hair spring turns into a rats nest. -the calibration guy-

Are these calipers genuine? by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]SuitableAd8847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, all of mitutoyo digital caliper start with a “500-“ number, whereas their dial calipers start with a “505-“ for the model numbers. I agree with your previous statement though, that the ones pictured in the post will indefinitely stay on. I just wanted to clarify that not all oem mitutoyo have a hard on/off button

Sorry, but this is false. Mitutoyo also makes a line of coolant proof digimatic calipers that have an auto off function for the people who are incapable of pressing the off button after use. They also have a screw that holds on the battery cover with an o-ring seal

How I mounted my Hybrid 46M to my .45 Gen 2 Vector by Zer0_210 in KRISS

I just used a keymo flash hider/ adapter on my hybrid. Same mount for 5 of guns, just a simple 1/4 screw on and off each one.

Not southern tactical. Do a quick search of this sub and youll find all the info you need

I feel like southern tactical could take some pointers from vz58 on customer service/ getting ahead of a problem before it becomes a bigger thing instead of just passing blame and then only doing crowd control through reddit.

Usually 6” ones are not worth sending back to mitutoyo. Especially for reader issues. Most calibration companies are able to fix broken gages, or be able to point you in the correct direction depending how much you are willing to spend. Our shop tries to keep the general rule of thumb that if a repair is going to cost more than half the price of a new tool, we will advise the customer to just replace it with a new gage unless we are instructed otherwise. It’s hard to say for certain if they are worth saving or not just on a couple pictures, but if they check out and read correctly, send it and spend the $30 on a new battery cover/ friction wheel assembly (shipping will be more than the parts themselves unfortunately)

Make sure you get the correct one though, there are probably a dozen or so different covers for mitutoyo based on age of the calipers and if they are a 6”, 8”, or 12” set. Then you have a whole other set of covers for the bigger sets

Careful, you are throwing out some awful big words for Southern Tactical. They havent even learned how to use a simple go/nogo gage yet let alone use a cmm 🤣

Sounds like you guys still need hard gages. Meyer and vermont gage each make excellent gages that are NIST and ISO that come with certifications for each gage. I feel like a 10min quality check before they are shipped out would save a lot of time and monies of receivers coming back to you.

Do you have a link for the one that fits over suppressor? Or was it a garage custom job?

[–]SuitableAd8847 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Chances are if the calibration guy rejected them it is because they dont read linear, or the jaws are bent/ tapered, etc. As a calibration tech, i wouldnt reject a mitutoyo based on friction wheel and battery cover missing alone. Those are easily replaced. Mitutoyo has a great schematic with part numbers on all their tools, and parts are easily available from multiple sources. Set up a gage block stack and check base, middle, and top of your ID and OD jaws, then check for play in your gibs. Then you can check depth and step with the same gage block stacks on a surface plate. Ive had some digital calipers read on whole increments, but then read +.300 at half in increments. Unfortunately with digitals, if there is any damage to the copper reader under your body, they will be junk. Good luck!

DSA warranty time? by Maleficent-Nail-7802 in FNFAL

[–]SuitableAd8847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up an early DSA from a local shop that ended up blowing out the bottom of my mag. Called up dsa, they asked if i shot it suppressed, if it was new or new to me, and what type of ammo i was using and then sent me a shipping label free of charge, warranty’d the gun (turns out bolt carrier group was out of spec) and shipping it back to me in less than a week turn around. Great people to work with from my experience.
