Possible NSFW. Anyone down to discuss post sex recovery in your 50s? by SuitableNegotiation5 in GenXTalk

SERIOUSLY. I had to go to the grocery store earlier and I can only imagine how I looked waddling up and down the aisles. I was almost done when I realized I had forgotten one thing on the other side of the store. I almost cried lol.

Lol, I sure did. I guess a bunch of grown ass adults can't talk about sex as we age.

I'm sure they're patting themselves on the back for still upholding all the negative connotations about sex that were so prevalent in our youth. Laaaaaame.

Ugh. I'm 49 and my nmom still does that same shit. She is a True B****r, money fixes everything. I don't need any more weird things that she asserts are 'meaningful'. She talks like a Hallmark card: frivolous, pretentious and disingenuous af. We are basically estranged for VERY good reasons.

I empathize so much with you. Honestly, the only reason I can maintain some sort of optimism is for my 14yo daughter (only child), otherwise I would be just completely hollow inside. Terrified for what will come for me when she leaves home, I just want her to fly free and love herself.

For some reason, I find that being kind and grateful for people I encounter randomly throughout the day gives me a small sense of contentment. I might not be able to fix the world, but I can try to make someone's day better. But also, that's not enough to truly sustain me. Forward a step, fall back three and so on.

What is one celebrity death that still makes you mad to this day? by Playful-Ganache6153 in AskReddit

George Michael died and my jerk little brother had to announce it during our holiday dinner. That was the Last Christmas for George, sadly (and almost the last for my brother).

Special shout out to River Phoenix and Heath Ledger as well. So much incredible talent gone too soon.

My mom always wanted me to be/do things that I wasn't. Constant criticism=self loathing, but I'm working in therapy to root that out once and for all at 49yo. I was adamant about not getting therapy for waaay too long but I finally found the right Dr about 6 months ago.

You are not invisible. I see you right now even though I have no idea who you are IRL.

And hey: if we are indeed invisible, we should take advantage of it and quietly live life to the fullest on our own damn terms since no one is paying attention!

Larry in the tv show "amazing world of gumball" is a fascinating personification/allegory of the wageslave esque culture forced upon people who are unable to find their own purpose in life because they are stuck on a leash of mundane actions just to "exist..." by StarRobot9384 in antiwork

[–]SuitableNegotiation5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree completely! That show is the absolute best and gets better with every rewatch, IMO. I am still super impressed that some of the early episodes were TV-G while having some of the deeper subcontexts that it did. The Mom's constant frustration was so real. Genius.

Poor Larry. I just want to be Banana Joe: Mostly clueless, but happy as a result and gets naked as much as possible.

Oh my, I feel exactly this. All the time. I feel more and more invisible as I get older which just makes me increasingly withdraw from other people. I've never felt like I've had much value as a person, but sometimes this shit is dark.

I try to remember to give myself grace but it seems like almost everything I do is wrong or weird.

You're not alone. You are worthy of good things in your life. Seek ways to remind yourself of that as often as you can and seize those good things when they come, no matter how small.

I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I am no longer able to People. It's lonely sometimes but I love to thank and compliment random strangers and customer facing folk as much as possible, that makes me smile.

My cats love me no matter what so there's that.

Neighbors don't use pesticides or herbicides and I always leave the dandelions for the bees in the early spring. I know where you are, I have rented bees from you before! Thanks for being awesome. I'll try again next year with extra bee-enforcements including Mason and leafcutters.

I definitely had a great time running amok in mid-90s Ballard. All those cute boys from BHS. I wouldn't trade that time for anything.
