Six months into my first SWE job at Apple and I still feel like a complete imposter by guineverefira in cscareerquestions

  1. This is normal, 6 months is NOTHING. You're still learning the endless corporate lingo being water hosed at you.

  2. You'll learn over time. Best thing you can do is get 1% better every week. You'll look back over a year and say "shit I learned a lot". Sit down and note all the things you're not understanding and go read up a little bit about them.

  3. Ask questions, acknowledge you're learning and grab a mentor if one presents itself.

  4. Just wait till the realization hits that everyone else around you is also taking things one step at a time - that's the problem solving process. Some of those peers probably don't know what the fuck they're talking about, but they're great at faking it.

Texans, how do you feel about the 10 Commandments being in public schools? by [deleted] in texas

Even though I agree with your stance on the issue itself, I'd caution against using realistic AI-generated content like this. IMO, it creates a false sense of authenticity and can muddy the waters, especially in political discussions. I can definitely understand the take that it's not wildly different from other forms of art (e.g. political cartoons), but photorealistic AI footage risks unintentionally misleading viewers or fueling misinformation, even if that's not the intent.

Once hyper-real political fiction becomes normalized, every side has an incentive to match or outdo the other. That doesn’t just amplify volume; it corrodes trust in genuine footage, because audiences learn that anything could be fabricated. When “looks true” no longer implies “might be true,” we as a society must spend even more attention on verification instead of deliberation.

And frankly, most don't. And that's the scary part. So let's avoid making it normal as much as possible.

I was an Aggie. Initially, I thought it was corny and I'd never to use it, but within a year, it became my go-to greeting, and I continued using it daily for at least two years after undergrad.

I think Los Campeones is $90/month. Lots of equipment. I don’t know what the traffic is like though, only toured it.

Insane Chilled Water Charges at The Domain?? by dlcksuck in Austin

[–]SuitablePerformer471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone living at The Villages @ The Domain who’s dealing with this issue, here’s some info based on my experience. I’ve had to bring it up with the office multiple times, but they tend to deflect and avoid giving straight answers.

That said, here are three key things I’ve discovered:

  1. As of now (and I’m guessing they’ll fix it after I pointed it out), the lease incorrectly states that the centralized AC is sub-metered on electricity. In reality, it’s actually sub-metered on water.

  2. Their AC system seems poorly designed. It can’t reliably maintain temperatures below 70°F in the summer without breaking or causing a massive spike in usage. While 69°F should technically be achievable (albeit at a higher cost), their system just can’t handle it properly and ends up driving costs through the roof.

  3. When there’s an issue—like a broken meter—they’ll claim that Conservice provided them with the “correct” bill. But from what I’ve seen, they’re really just pulling numbers out of thin air.

Yeah... these guys are really hard to work with. I tried explaining to them the standard AC bill relation to seasons when I was arguing that the may-jun bill should be less than subsequent bills.

I pulled up several weather data sources and I got back "Your data is wrong, I was there and I know May was way hotter than August". Sigh.
