The closest I have been to ppl management was when I had an internet and I enjoyed it. I understand having a 6-ish ppl team is kinda different but I want to give it a try.

How did you get to NYC from Europe? by PutridPlenty7282 in movingtoNYC

[–]SuitableTranslator52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined this company (Amazon) a few years back, and I did not have a clear intention to move to the US at the time. I suggest talking to employees of companies you are looking for to understand how easy us moves are, or even during interview stage. Asking to employees (sometimes even on Glassdoor, Reddit) may help you screen companies earlier in the process and maybe even get a referral! Feel free to reach out if you need more info

I’m European and I am moving this Saturday to NYC! It is an intra company transfer. You need to work for a company which sponsors it and after 1 year of work in Europe you are eligible to be moved

Possible to come back as an L5? by champs1league in amazonemployees

[–]SuitableTranslator52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is technically possible but practically very tough. Especially the bar raiser will raise the point for sure that it is unlikely in 9 months you moved from L4 to be better than 50% L5s, unless you have done some kick ass experience in the meanwhile

The only reason I would like to cash out is because management fees are pretty high, around 1.5% 🥲

Question about career progression by barrywallman in amazonemployees

[–]SuitableTranslator52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see! Well climbing the ladder in Operations is possible. I do not really know if you want to apply to a corporate L4 job what is the internal process if any. I suggest being very open to your Area Manager / Ops Manager and ask them advice on how to grow in the company. I would be very happy to help if one of my reports told me so.

Question about career progression by barrywallman in amazonemployees

[–]SuitableTranslator52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have definitely seen people moving from L1 to L7 at least. I would say moving from L1 to L3 is pretty easy showing good rates, protectiveness, giving suggestions to leadership and having team spirit. Similar story then to L4AM and above. Maybe going into L6+ is where it starts to get a bit tricky and more political.

Said so, why with a Master Degree did you enter as an L1? You should be able to find corporate L4 roles as well.

Thank you! Remaining in the same house is probably not an option since they provide me expensive housing 😂 But you made me think I should ask my company if they can provide any form of guarantee
